Quest 38 The Guardian of Wind More quests

Prerequisites: The Fallen Emperor

Grab Larc if you don't have him already, use the _ to create the Norn Peaks and enter. As soon as you step in, Larc will have a run-in with Sierra, and you'll receive the "The Guardian of Wind" quest. Head east through the forest screens until you reach the Windcaller Village. It's not much of a village -- there's no houses to go in -- so just head to the upper-right and talk to the elders blocking the path. After the brief scene there, continue up and right to the mountain proper.

Head right through the first screen to a fork in the road. The fork to the left leads to three chests: Bird Meat, Poison Fang, and Angry Eye. Collect them if you want; otherwise, continue east another screen. You'll square off against one of the Windcaller elders here. It uses mostly magic; you can cancel its spells by hitting it before they finish casting. Keep up a steady stream of attacks and you shouldn't have any trouble defeating it. You won't receive any experience or money from the battle, however.

Go northwest and head west at the fork. Continue west another screen to a second fork. Here, go northeast for two chests -- Sleepy Powder and valuable Dragon's Blood -- then take the north fork to battle a second Windcaller elder. Defeat it the same way you did the first, then go east, southeast, east, northeast, and east. There's a statue in the upper-right corner of this screen; don't touch it yet or you'll be warped back to the entrnace. Instead, take the southeast fork and proceed until you reach the final elder. Defeat it, then return to the statue. You've beaten all three elders, so examine it and it will disappear.

Proceed two screens to the northeast. You'll lose control of the party briefly as they have a run-in with some more Windcallers. After that little event ends, take a quick detour to the right for three chests (a Messy Scroll, Dragon Steak, and a Flaming Quill). Then proceed northwest until you reach Akravator himself.

Not only is Akravator invincible while glowing, he also can't be hit while he's flapping his wings. Don't waste your attacks while he's airborne; just wait for him to move and touch down. Akravator's principal attack is another "magic circle" attack; several glowing circles light up on the ground and energy strikes them.

When Akravator is defeated, Larc will reclaim the dragon's power from the Mana Room. He then gives you the AF Dragonbone, which will create the second of the dragon lairs.

Cactus Diary:
"So my master fought lots of birds today. I wonder if it hurts to be poked around by their beaks?"
