Prerequisites: The Cage of Dreams
Using the Sword of Mana in Landmake creates the Tree of Mana, the
final Land. Give careful thought to where you place it, it
completely fills up all 8 mana values of the adjacent Lands. If
you took our advice and left a spot open next to Domina (it can be
over water -- the Mana Tree can be placed anywhere), drop the Tree
of Mana there to activate two new quests in Domina.
Grab your NPC and pet of choice; you'll definitely want some assistance.
Enter the Mana Tree (don't worry, you can leave later) and proceed
one screen ahead. Talk to Pokiehl to receive the "Legend of Mana"
quest, the game's final mission. Start climbing up the Mana Tree
until you get to a cave entrance. Go inside, cross the big purple
leaves, and ascend the tree branch. Step back outside and head
northeast one screen. The path branches here, head straight north
and go inside. (The other route eventually leads to the same
insdie room; it's much longer, though.)
Head for the other exit (the one to the north of where you came in)
and go east across the short outside passage. Back inside, grab
the Healing Claw from the right side of the screen, then move onto
the lower-left leaf and climb up the branch to another passage
outside. Climb down and go right. Pick up the Angel Feather on
the next screen, then loop around south and head north and east.
A large branch hangs over the path on the next screen; duck under
it to the right (the exit here is a
bit difficult to see) and you'll be in a small room with a Little Eye.
Get it, then go back outside and head north. The rest of this area is straightforward;
keep going until you reach the Sanctuary's Gate. Enter.
There are nine rooms in the Sanctuary, arranged in a 3-by-3 grid.
Go to each room and either pick up the chest, defeat the enemy, or talk to the Sproutlings. When all nine rooms have been
cleared, you'll be warped to do battle with the final boss, the
evil side of the Mana Goddess.
As Legend of Mana bosses go, the Mana Goddess is relatively
challenging, so fight carefully. Use X button attacks and adopt
a hit-and-run approach; conserve HP, since this is a long battle.
You can usually see the Mana Goddess' various attacks coming:
when she kneels, she'll use the tornado attack; when she changes
into a butterfly, she'll fire a three-way shot. Her most deadly
attack is a wide-range laser sweep; the Mana Goddess is about to
use it whenever she changes into a pink Esper Terra-like form.
When the Mana Goddess is defeated, you'll complete the game and
get to see the ending. Leave the credits running; afterwards,
you can make a clear file. Loading this save up lets you start
a new game with most of the powers you've earned in your current
game.
What's kept in the clear file:
- Hero's, pets', and golems' experience and status
- Inventory, except for Artifacts
- Special attacks and spells
- Logic blocks
- Cactus Diaries
- All Encyclopedia entries
- Improvements to your house (the workshops, orchard, and ranch)
- Completion of the quests associated with the above improvements
(i.e., The Mana Orchards, etc.)
What's not kept:
- All other quests
- Artifacts
- World map creation
- NPC experience levels
- Crabs in your library
- Two-player crossover ability (you have to talk to Nouvelle again to get it)
Also, if you check out the Encyclopedias during your second game, you'll
see that the skull-marked Forbidden Tome has been added. Examine it
and you're given the chance to switch between the Normal, Nightmare,
and No Future difficulty levels.
