Chapter 37 The Jolly Green Giant More walkthrough

ITEMS TO GET: Ether, Remedy, Tent, Moonstone, Antlion Card

When all the scenes in Black Mage Village have concluded, leave the forest and return to Conde Petie. Head inside, talk to the guards, and then go one screen left. Talk to the chief here. He leads Zidane and Garnet up to the second floor, where they perform some weird ritual. Eventually, the rest of the party rejoins. Then head over to the weapon shop and talk to the guards on the right. They'll now depart, allowing you to exit to the right -- but immediately run back in, chasing Eiko.

I have no idea what is going on
Mountains're nice.

You're now on the obligatory Mountain Path. Go right one screen and you'll see Eiko hanging from a branch, with her guardian Moogle trying to save her. Zidane and Quina team up to save her, but in the process, Quina tumbles off down the trail. Eiko takes his place in the party; you'll get to name her before she joins.

Eiko and Garnet are similar characters; they both use Summon and White Magic, but Eiko has more White spells (she eventually learns Esuna and Holy and Garnet doesn't, for example) and fewer Summons. Her only current Summon is Fenrir, which does earth damage, but if you equip a Phoenix Pinion as her accessory, she can learn Phoenix. (Note that sometimes Phoenix triggers automatically when Eiko is killed.) Eiko can also use all of the "racket" weapons, but not the rods; she also has her own, specialized flutes.

Climb up the rocks in the background of this scene and grab the Remedy from the chest. Go right one screen and investigate the idol. Choose the first option and you'll receive some type of stone. Go back down the vine and continue east on the ground level. On the next screen, climb up the vine and go left for a Tent and another stone (again, it's in the idol); then again descend and continue right. Head north on the next screen to a fork in the road.

The Moogle merchant is back, and this time he's offering a Revivify, a Tent, and an Ether for 666 gil. Since a Tent alone costs you 800 gil, this is a good deal. Also, talk to the Save Moogle and choose MOGNET to clear one of your quests. Use a Tent or two to restore your HP and MP and go left. Climb up onto the branch and go south. On the next screen, you'll see an FMV introducing Iifa. Continue right another screen and a boss -- the Hill Gigas -- will appear out of nowhere.

Your current party is awfully weak, so this will probably be a long fight -- especially since the Gigas has 7500 HP and the ability to heal itself. Zidane, of course, should attack continuously while VIVI uses Blizzaga. Eiko should take care of most of the healing; Garnet may not be much of a fighter, but she can still do more damage than Eiko. Summon spells will come in handy.

When the Hill Gigas goes down, you'll receive 9 AP and an Antlion Card. Grab the stone from the idol nearby. If you go north from here, you'll end up on the world map, but that's not where you want to be yet. Continue east another screen to a fork in the road. The north fork leads to another section of the world map; but for now, go right to find the final idol. Search it for its stone, grab the Ether, then return to the fork with the Moogles.

Use a Tent if you want, then check out the fork on the right. It leads to small outcropping with a stone machine on it. Examine the machine and choose the first option to put one of your stones (from the idols) in it. Repeat three more times to put the rest of the stones in and you'll get a Moonstone. It doesn't give you any new Summons, but it does have some other useful abilities.

Once you've obtained the Moonstone, return to the second fork -- the one over water -- and go north. A few screens later, you'll wind up on the world map, on the north end of the New Continent.
