ITEMS TO GET: 2220 gil, Echo Screen (x2), Ether, Gisahl Greens, Phoenix Pinion (x2), ? Stone
The survivors of the attack on the Burmecia have gathered here. Two priests greet Freija; she then departs. One of the priests asks Zidane a question. If you want a go on a tour of the town, choose the first option; if you don't, pick the second option to skip it. (You won't lose anything by not going on the tour.)
Head right (behind here VIVI is standing) to a big sand pit. For now, all you can do right here is grab the 970 gil from behind the large piece of wood in the foreground. Collect the money, then go back west and climb up the stairs. When you reach the first landing, move to the right until an exclamation mark appears; trigger it for a Phoenix Pinion. Continue up the stairs and go right.
A Quina A.T.E. will greet you on the next screen. Run through it, then search the flowers in the lower-right corner for a healing stone. Go left and you'll see a VIVI A.T.E. in which he's mistaken by the Burmecians for one of the evil black mages. Leave the screen and enter again to see the A.T.E.'s second part; one of the priests calls the Burmecians off. While you're on the screen, search the background on the right side for a free pair of gauntlets.
Return to the screen where VIVI was being harassed and go up the stairs to the middle of the screen. Dan is here; talk to him and you can buy weapons from him. Be sure to get a Partisan for Freija, Mithril Bracelets for everyone except Freija, and new hats for VIVI and Quina. Since only Zidane is in your active party, though, you won't be able to equip anyone but him.
After shopping, enter the inn behind Dan. There's a Save Moogle on the second floor, and an Ether in the cabinet beside him. Also in the inn are an Echo Screen (beside VIVI, in the left corner) and 1250 gil under the counter in the lower-right. Loot the place, then leave and head right, up the stairs. Check behind the tree in the foreground for a Remedy, then continue north until you reach a second Quina A.T.E. Run through it.
Once you've completed both Quina A.T.E.s, return to the entrance of the settlement and go right to the sandpit. Quina will be here; after remarking that he's really hungry, he'll jump into the pit. Zidane will follow him in, and you'll be able to get to two chests back down in Cleyra's trunk. Then return to town and head to the upper-left corner.
| Let's look for treasure, Terrance! |
You can buy items from a Burmecian girl named Nina on this screen; she's on the left side of the screen. There's also a Phoenix Pinion hidden at the top of the southernmost flight of stairs. Ascend the north set of stairs to reach the temple grounds. Search the grass on the right side of the screen; there's Gisahl Greens in the foreground and an Echo Screen in the background. Enter the temple and talk to the priests there.
Return to the area outside the inn; assuming you've done everything in town, a Cleyra priest will meet with Dan and tell him that the Antlion has grabbed a child. The music stops. Head down to the entrance of town; Dan will be running down the steps. Talk to him, then go east to the whirpool area. The Antlion is here, and it has Pack. Freija enters as the Antlion throws Pack free, and it's fight time.
The Antlion may use a sandstorm attack to drop the entire party's HP to single digits. Use Freija's Laser spell (from the Mithril Spear) to cast Regen on the whole party; this will help you recover quickly. (Auto-Potion also works.) If it does cast the spell, be sure to take advantage of your lowered HP to hit it with Quina's Pumpkin Head spell. Otherwise, have him attack. Zidane should steal first (you may be able to nab a Gold Helm), then also attack. After Regenning the party, Freija should jump; and, last, but certainly not least, have VIVI cast Blizzaga -- it does about 1400 damage a shot. The antlion has about 7500 HP, but with Blizzaga you should be able to kill it easily.
Freija tries to calm Pack down, but he just snaps at the party and runs off. VIVI chases after him.
