Chapter 10 Tilting at Windmills More walkthrough

ITEMS TO GET: 371 gil, Potion (x2), Ether, Phoenix Down, Antidote, Eyedrop, Iron Helm, ? Wrist, Zodiac Coin Aries

   There's several places you can go on the world map -- there's a gate to the west, and a windmill nearby -- but only one of them is relevant. So head east, through the small forest, to the town of Dali. As soon as you enter, your party heads to the inn, where you'll rest up after the long journey.

   The next day, all your party members have wandered off, leaving Zidane alone. An A.T.E. menu pops up; choose either of the scenarios. As Zidane, grab the Antidote from the ! on the right side of the room. On the left is a machine which will tell you your lucky color for 10 gil. This color seems to affect the power of the colored healing stones, but since you won't have any at this point in the game, just ignore it. Step out into the main room of the inn and A.T.E. menu will appear, allowing you to complete the other event. Also talk to the Moogle on the left side of the screen. Pick the third option to deliver your MOGNET letter, and save your game if you wish.

   Go outside and a new pair of A.T.E.s will appear. Complete one, then go back into the inn to see the other. Then go to the weapon shop -- it's just across the road -- and talk to Garnet. You should be awash in gil by this point, so just scroll through the list and buy anything with an upwards-pointing arrow. Don't sell any of your equipment in this game; you can use it later to forge new gear and also to learn abilities you may have missed. You can also play cards with the proprietor by pressing Square; she's the only person in Dali who's a QuadMist player.

   Leave the shop and search in the reeds just north of it for 120 gil. Then check the grate northwest of the inn to spy on Garnet. (A question mark appears when you're near the grate.) Then go north and talk to VIVI. When Zidane turns away, a boy races by and magenaps VIVI. There's yet another A.T.E., this time taking place in the inn -- which is where also where you should be heading next. Talk to Garnet in the the inn and she'll rejoin. A final A.T.E. is triggered; this one stars Steiner.

   If you need to stock up on items (though you probably don't), there's an item shop in the upper-right hand corner of town. When you've finished your shopping, approach the river where VIVI was kidnapped. VIVI will talk from below via the pipe. Enter the windmill just to the left. First, hug the wall to your right and follow into the background of the screen. Search the exclamation mark for the Aries Zodiac Coin, the first of thirteen such coins. Then open the large lid just inside the door and pick the top option to descend into the plant below.

   Step onto the elevator platform and activat the exclamation mark to descend to the lower level. Grab the 156 gil from the chest, then go northeast. When you enter, you'll see several characters conversing with VIVI. Garnet forces Zidane back to the previous screen. Turn around and go back northeast again; by now, VIVI and the men are gone. Search their gazebo for a Potion and collect the Eyedrop in the visible chest. Continue northeast.

   Here, you can find a Save Moogle hidden in one of the barrel; you can see just the top of antenna sticking out. Choose the MOGNET option to receive a new quest. Hop up on the crate just behind the barrel, then up onto the top crate. Grab the Ether from the chest and jump back down. Move to the back wall and look for a question mark. Trigger it and choose the top option. Zidane will drop the chest from the crane. Pick it up; a Potion is inside.

   On the next screen, jump up on either stack of crates to reach the chest, which contains an Iron Helm. There's also a ? Wrist in a chest on the ground. Once you've collected both chests, go northeast another screen. Zidane will find VIVI behind a barrel; the black mage rejoins your party. Equip him with the gear you purchased for him in town. Open the chest for 95 gil, then check the door in the background. Choose the top option to open it. You'll immediately be attacked by two Ghosts (or is that Gusts?); they're easy to defeat. And since Ghosts are undead and this is a Final Fantasy game, you can damage them by using healing spells and items.

   Ghosts now appear all over the area. Proceed through the door you just opened. There's three chests in here, though two are hidden behind the machine. Collect them all for a Potion, a Phoenix Down, and a Phoenix Pinion. Return to the previous room and follow the wooden bridge to the east. Continue along the bridge (you can use the exclamation points to look at the machinery); Zidane will stop near the exit and speak briefly. Continue north to the next room; as soon as you step inside, an automated scene takes place.
