NES II
The sequel to the original

Fortunately, the very second game in the series got it right! This was where multiplayer fun started. After this point, we can safely ignore the single-player mode for every title as worthless--with one important exception which we'll get to later.

Bomberman II could handle up to four players, which was quite impressive at the time due to the NES's two controller ports. In actual practice, sharing each controller between two players got tedious after a while, but even that couldn't dampen the full-on charm of Bomberman!
