This picture is a little difficult to explain, but I suppose I should try. The setting is 65,000,000 B.C., near the Ioka village, a few nights before the arrival of Crono and company. Here we see Ayla, carrying out what I imagine might have been one of her duties as chief of the tribe - perched on her lookout point as night falls, keeping a watchful eye on the village and the surrounding area; here she is alone with her thoughts, and one major focus of speculation is the new star that has only recently appeared in the heavens. Ayla has little doubt that it is an omen - an omen of what, she isn't certain, but certainly of nothing good. As will all too soon become apparent to her, the star is indeed an omen - of the arrival of Lavos.
Of course, there isn't anything in the actual game to indicate that a scene such as this might have occurred, but it's fun to speculate, isn't it?
