Another nice large update, and another week when I have absolutely nothing to say except "Look at the pretty pictures! Oooh...!" So, since it's been awhile since we've gone over submission guidelines in this space, and I've been getting a lot of questions (or just errors) as far as what the GIA will accept and what the GIA will not accept, here's a little refresher course.
GIA accepts fan art from the following game genres: RPGs, strategy games, rhythm games, adventure games, and puzzle games.
GIA does not accept fan art from the following game genres: fighting games, platform games, first person shooters, and everything else not classified as the above. If you're not sure whether a game fits into our site's coverage, go ahead and ask.
GIA accepts fan art from: Movies, anime, or TV series based on or closely tied into a game falling under our coverage. (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Wild Arms TV, Pokémon.)
GIA does not accept fan art from: Anime series or manga that were intended primarily to be anime/manga. (Evangelion, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon. Yes, despite the fact they made RPGs and so on to go with these franchises.)
Since classification is a tricky thing, sometimes rules are bent a little, and we've often had to change and refine decisions on whether or not to provide coverage of a certain item. But for the moment, that is where our policy on fan art submissions stands.
- Andrea Hartmann - awaiting horrified email... and not because of this.
