Oh Melody (2/14/00)
a bow to the string, frayed, worn,
the edges of the music, old, torn,
keys of my pian', never end, never start,
ivory neath my fingers burns akin my heart,
mournful sigh to rise and fall away,
wandering, winding, dawn, twilight, night, day.
a tapestry woven with melodies of mellow,
hues of blues, greens, hints of yellow,
play on, sing on, dancing rainbows, weave!
a portrait, a landscape, strain through a sieve,
unraveled, this fabric, sand drifting in wind,
dust falling away, believe not thou hast sinned.
this thy punishment, or a backwards reward,
to never stop the melody, the song once adored.
tired was left lifetimes in the past,
and the music weaves and winds like a river fast.
I stand alone on this pedastal of stone,
and never there a day I allow to condone
the art that has breathed my life, my soul,
the rhythm, the religion, the love made me whole.
Would I to control every instrument in my life
and be able to blame no one but myself for joy or strife?
God, thou hast willed me the most precious treasure,
the inspiration in my soul to create the pleasure,
and I play of all despair, in wild fury,
the melody ceaseless weaves life's majestic glory.
Music of Earth, bind me to every life, every face,
Music of Water, oh river, carry me to every place,
Keep my heart burning strong, oh Music of Fire,
Music of Air, lift my spirit with hope and desire
my tapestry, my sand, my blessed God-gift of light,
oh song, oh melody, hold me through day and night.
