In addition to selling extremely well in their own right, RPGs in Japan also engender a myriad of merchandising opportunities. In December of 1997, Atlus released a Devil Summoner card series in Japan based on characters and enemies from the Devil Summoner series. The 183 card set is conceptually similar in play to the popular Magic: The Gathering card series.
