Final Fantasy VI PSX remake adds more
[12.22.98] » Square's Final Fantasy VI PSX version is turning out to be more than a simple re-release with two movies tacked on. But...how much more?

Late last week Square announced that the classic Final Fantasy VI would be re-released on the Sony PlayStation, just as Final Fantasy IV and V had been done earlier this year in Japan. Initial reports stated the game would be identical to the previous two remakes -- a introduction and ending CG movie added in, with absolutely no other game changes.
Now, according to Japanese news source Magic Box, the Final Fantasy VI remake will encompass two CDs, with CG scenes injected throughout as opposed to just the introduction and ending. As far as we can tell, nothing else has been changed, as the screen shots displayed to the Japanese media have been completely identical to the original SNES version.
The original Final Fantasy VI fit onto a 24 megabit cartridge -- that's 3 megabytes. A typical PlayStation CD can hold about 650 megabytes of information. Throw in another CD and you've got well over a gigabyte of data. With that much space available, Square must be planning a lot of spectacular movies. A full-length opera scene, anyone?
