Changes in store for Black & White console ports
[09.08.01] » New control scheme, name on the way for GameCube and Xbox ports.
GameSpot VG recently spoke to Lionhead Games' Peter Molyneux concerning the changes in store for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of his PC simulation hit Black & White. Not only will the console versions bear a different name - Black & White Next-Generation - they will have an entirely different perspective. Instead of training a autonomous creature, as in Nintendo's Doshin the Giant, Black & White Next-Generation will put players directly into the shoes of the creature. The action will now take place from a first-person perspecitve, though a non-interactive third-person view is still available so players can get an overview of the area.
As much of the original Black & White's gameplay centered around training the creature to interact with human villagers and perform task, this change may make for some rather drastic changes to the formula.
A more direct port of Black & White to the PSone is still under way by Midas Interactive.
More on Black & White Next-Generation, including a description of the new control scheme, can be found at GameSpot.
