Man, super late update today, my apologies. We're feeling the pre-E3 preparations crunch around here, and now I'm tired as heck. So, this should be interesting. Let's get this started before I fall asleep on my keyboard. Is this guy a Dreamcast fan? | I'm hoping Sega shows a DVD add-on to crush Sony's little"paperstation," or when Sony tries to show some tech demos, Sega justowns them with Shen Mue! Also, I'd love to hear confirmations like Grandia 2 (and Grandia-PSX..our store has a date for it, but no "official" confirmation yet) andClimax Landers.Dreamcast fan? Naah.. -Brad Williams |
Yeah, with the lack of the PS2 or Project Dolphin (The current code name for Nintendo's next console) at the big show, this is Sega's big chance. I wouldn't count on an add-on though. After their past experiences with the Sega CD and the 32X, I'm pretty sure Sega would rather not head down that road again. But then again, they've surprised me with bold strokes of stupidity before, so who knows. E3? I love E3! | Drew, 1. Square announces that a small team of programmers will for the nextfive years, be dedicated to porting over all past Japanese titles. |
Actually, with their newfound super happy tree friendship with EA, I'm pretty confident we'll be seeing most of Square's games coming to North America. With the exception of those little gems like Another Mind. Trust me, you owe EA for not porting that one. Big time. Go buy Knockout Kings to show your gratitude. 2. Thrill Kill is back on! Yeah! Go 'Kill-for-fun Murder Simulations'! |
Again, the last thing the games industry needs after the recent Colorado incident is a game like TK. Think of EA as the Guardian of Gaming. A big, greedy, corporate giant Guardian, but a Guardian none the less. 3. Nintendo invents a time machine and goes into the future to fetch thecompleted N64DD. |
No, I think Nintendo is smart enough just to let that idea die. 4. Bernie Stolar is publically flogged by Sega of Japan and a trainedchimp is appointed to his office. Coincedently, Sega of America's stocksgo up. |
I thought Bernie Stolar was a chimp? 5. Sony to announce that the PlayStation heats up due to the "EvilWizard". |
What a coincidince. The Evil Wizard is also the guy that knocked over that vase when I was 5 and made me fail Classical Literature! Damn you, Evil Wizard... DAMN YOU! 6. From now on all Mortal Kombat titles WILL have nudalities. |
I'll just move on now. 7. Seriously...Hoping for a US LoM release date. Sigh. |
I'll go out on a limb and say this: LoM will be released in North America. If it isn't, I will personally devote an column to all the letters I've ever received, both here and at RPGamer telling me I suck. Both of them. ;) 8. I'm invited to attend the next E3 as a date for a female booth model.*Feeble attempt to look like he's not hitting on Drew* -With lots of caffine in him,~Ian P. |
Mmm... booth models. E3 rocks on so many levels. The cure for the common cold | Let's see... what do I want announced at E3?Final Fantasy Gaiden of course. ;)But really, a US-confirmed Dragon Quest VII, Lunar EB Remix and a confirmed release date for Suikoden II would make my day.Oh, and a cure for the common cold would be nice too.-Cham |
Enix has recently announced that DQVII will be postponed until they're confident nobody cares anymore. And I heard that Sega's going to have the cure for the common cold available in time for the Dreamcast's US launch. Can... you... dig it?! | My practical wish is just plain exact release dates(come on Square). Nomore of this late '99(FF Anthlolgy) runaround junk. If you want a crazyfantasy I wish Square would go on to release the best of theirunreleased(to us in the states) Japanese RPG games...well as long asthey are in Anthlolgy mode...they might as well anounce something likethat at E3.... -Your mom |
Boy, you guys are real sticklers for knowing when games are going to come out ;) Actually, Square (and most companies for that matter) do, in fact, reveal release dates at E3. You dig? Hey, this topic has nothing to do with the actual letter! Party on, Garth! | Howdy Drew, Boy, i just read the column, and I just realized that E3 is only a fewdays away. I thought it was gonna be much later, so thanx for theupdate. I read your question, and I think that the biggest surprise that I couldsee at E3 would be for Square to reveal that it has been workingsecretly on a sequel to either Chrono Trigger or Xenogears. I reallywish either (or both) of them could receive a sequel, and, while I'm atit, that there is also a demo for the game, too. I just remembered that both games were worked on by the same projectteam, so I guess I would also be happy if that same team of people madea game along the same lines of Chrono Trigger or Xenogears. -The Beaver |
Just about everybody and their uncle would like to see either of these games, but to be perfectly honest, I don't think it'll happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see a sequel to Xenogears, but I highly doubt that we'll ever see one for Chrono Trigger. I hope I'm wrong. Man of few words | Gia, This is going to be the year of the video games if you ask me. And E3 is the start of this gaming year. Here is the list of things i would like to see there. 1)I would like square to announce some character info or just any info on FF9 and if its going to be a sequel to FF8. |
I love this country. Final Fantasy 8 isn't even out yet, and people already want info on FF9. Teehee, you nuts :) 2)I would also like Square to announce a Chrono Trigger sequel if there is one. |
See above. 3) some info on the playstation2 and if it will play DVD movies and show us what the system will look like on the outside |
I'd like to see that, as well, but I don't think it's going to happen. Oh, and I should also mention that I will practically crap myself in shock if the PS2 plays DVD movies. Why would Sony want to sell on $300 system that plays games and movies when they could sell a $300 system to play games and keep selling their DVD players for the same price? 4)Maybe some info on the Nintendo 2000 |
That would be super-sexy. 5)I would like to hear Sega announce a D&D Collection like the saturn, a Shining Force collection with all the shinning Forces in one package with inproved graphics, a Phantasy Star collection, and a Panzer Dragon collection. |
Hey, if you're going to dream, dream big, right? 6)and last but deffinently not least, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION RPG baby. Oh yeah, that would rock my world. Could you just imagine it? Saving 350 and not having to buy any tapes because no place rents the dang things around here. dont get me started. |
I feel your pain. Import shops are about as common in these parts as dodo birds and wooly mammoths. Hey, wasn't there already a Neon Genesis Evangelion RPG? Wait... that was just Xenogears, never mind. I just don't think there's enough interest in Legend of Mana. | There is only one game I want the scoop on, one game that owns my hopesand makes me it's winsome, sighing bitch: 'Legend of Mana'. Square. It isn't apparently in their lineup. This is not tolerable. I want toknow why, I want to know that they intend to release it here, I want toplay this game, and in English. I mean, DAMN. One look, one glance and one can see it is special, it isworthwhile, it is GOING TO BE FUN. Real fun. Fun like we haven't seen itquite a long time. Too long. That is what I want. Legend of Mana. Period. I strongly encourage all who, like me, are going to E3, to give Square astern talking to about this game. You know I will be there, in theirface, repeatedly. -Jennifer Diane Reitz, Otakuworld.com |
As I said earlier, I'm pretty darn confidnet LoM will make it to our shores, and in our language as well, I'd wager ;) Everybody knows all about FF8, so Square needs something else up it's sleeve to announce at E3 to keep things interesting. I'm betting it will be LoM. A little hope for us dreamy dreamers who dream our little, dreamy dreams | Uh... I don't know if Sony has announced this but I have a personalconnection to E3 and I can say with absolute certainty that the PS2will be making a LARGE presence at E3. The are trying to blow Sega outof the water and from what I hear there is a good chance they will.Just though I'd let you know, I thought people already knew the PS2would be at E3....I really hope I get to go, I have some chance but Iwill have to see. Just thought you would want to know, Kain -The big pineapple in the sky |
I hope you're right. If you're lying, I hereby chastise you. If you wind up being correct, you rock. Or something. I'm tired, leave me alone. Closing Comments Okay ladies and gents, here's the lowdown. Tomorrow is the last day before the GIA crew departs for E3, so I'll get you one last regular column for tomorrow. Hopefully before 3 in the morning for once, yowzers. After that, it's E3 time, baby. Now, I could be lazy and just not have any column, but instead I've decided to post various little humorous things I run by, pictures, stories, the like. Okay, so it sounds stupid now, but trust me, it will be cool. You'll see, you doubting Thomas, you. In fact, there's a nice little topic for discussion for you all. What kind of silly stuff would you like to see in the column for the next week? Ridiculous door prizes? Booth girls? Pictures of Andrew Vestal getting slapped in the face by the booth girls? Let's hear it! And with that, I'm off to finally get a few minutes of sleep. - Drew Cosner | | | |
