Well, the dust has settled around the new Final Fantasy games, so let the heavy-duty speculation begin. Now is the time for deeply analytical speculation, as opposed to gut-reaction speculation.

Or, if you prefer, you can make dumb guesses. It's all good.

Some interesting text

Drew, I did a little careful studying of the FFX trailer, and for anyone who couldn't make out the text intro (since it was so blurry, disappeared to quickly, etc.), I thought I'd share it. If someone has already sent this in, or if it is already posted somewhere on the site, I apologize. *Note: the "(?)"s are words that I could not possible make out because they are blocked*

"Dead for a thousand years...
A great terror arose from the deep.
it swept across the(?)
A long past still lingers.
Destiny cannot be denied.
(?)burden grows heavier.
To the kingdom of the sun.
(?)is unknown.
Across the vast sea.
The journey home begins."

Hope that will help some people.

Quite helpful, yes. Reminds of the good ole days, reading about "One to be born, from a dragon." I think it's too early to pull a whole lot out of that text... it doesn't appear to be anything too earth-shattering. But it's interesting, nonetheless.

Seiken Densetsu Anthology?

If I'm going to continuing buying Square games, the company MUST do a Seiken Densetsu Anthology already!!!!!!!!

SD2 and SD3, with FMV intros with SD2, and gameplay tweaks (So it's not so darned HARD) for SD3. Isn't it about time America saw the SD games again?

Christopher

Considering Square's recent trend of re-releasing games, I wouldn't be surprised if they did release an SD Anthology. I'm assuming that their other anthologies have been wildly successful in terms of profit margins, so I forsee other anthologies. And an SD one seems a logical one to do.

What will you do with your 30 minutes?/b>

Hey Agent-Guy,

I played the demo for Chu-Chu Rockets and that game seriously rocks. It's as fun as Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, as hard as that is to believe. Although your time estimate for the completion of the demo seemed a little off, I finished it in 30 minutes, but you said to expect to spend an hour, so I was left with 30 extra minutes of time.

Also does Fritz have any plans to ever update his fanfic ever again? Or will it be frozen on mid-December forever?

One more question. Have you ever seen The Upright Citizens Brigade on Comedy Central? That is one of the most messed up shows ever. It's hilarious, I love it. Some of the stuff they do is completely out of left field.

Thanks,
Paul Nichols

Remember, that was only the demo! The game itself brings many more hours of fun, especially if you're fortunate enough to have friends. It really is more fun in a group.

Fritz's Parasite Eevee has been retired, Fritz reports, but for fans of his fanfics, get ready for Um Jammer Selphie, coming soon to Parallel Universe. I don't know about you guys, but I'm having trouble controlling my bladder about that one.

I can't say I've watched that show.. sorry Paul. Not much time for TV in my schedule. I watch some sports and Spin City, but that's about it.

A scary story

Drew,

I took a nap with two socks on...
I woke up with only one...
I thought that was something that only happened on sitcoms and bad movies,
but apparently, I'm wrong...

-Mikey B.

What a horrific tale of sorrow and woe. I can think of only one logical explanation: a giant ogre stealthily entered your house, stole your sock, then left. What a bastard.

Polygons and plot: related issues?

Well, to tell you the truth, I don't like square's current state of gaming... Ever since they went polygonal, their plot quality has gone down. I was playing FF6 about the time that FF8 came out, and FF8 didn't impress me in the least. It was an OK game, but it just doesn't do anything... I don't know, maybe I'm just weird.

On another note, I don't know WHERE Earthbound 64 went... last thing I heard is that it's release is somewhere in June in Japan... And Rare has gone psycho.

A lot of people prefer FFVI to FFVIII. I, for one, am one. A lot of people don't, though. I think that the fact that I prefer VI to VIII has nothing to do with the polygons, it's more about the tone of the presentation. FFVII and FFVIII seemed a bit too dark for my likings; I prefered the more light-hearted (with dramatic points) style of FFIV and VI. But a lot of people disagree with me, so Square will never be able to make everyone happy. It's just a fact of life.

As far as we here at the GIA know, Earthbound 64 (titled Mother 3 in Japan) is still scheduled for a May or June release in Japan. It has never been confirmed for U.S. release.

FFVIII stuff *SPOILERS*

Hey Drew, I've been playing through FFVIII for the third time these last few weeks, and while the game is amazing in every aspect, there is still one question whose answer eludes me in regards to the storyline.

As the ending shows, Edea inherited Ultimecia's powers when she traveled back in time and died once Squall had defeated her. Now, Ultimecia possesses Edea in the story through usage of the "Ellone Machine," which mimics Ellone's powers. Supposing that Ultimecia was able to control Edea because she already possessed Ultimecia's powers (and perhaps thoughts, etc.), or because she had met Edea in the past upon her death, doesn't it seem illogical of Ultimecia to attempt time compression when she knows she is already going to die? The manner in which everything is laid out in the story suggests that everything is pre-destined, or at the very least, it involves a hell of a lot of coincidence. Or am I missing something here?

OK, to be totally honest it's too late in the evening to make heads or tails of this email. I'm printing, however, in honor of Mr. Brian Glick, who, almost exactly 1 year after getting Final Fantasy VIII, managed to win the game this evening. Let's all give him a round of applause.

I'll also let this topic be the main topic for tomorrow, since Drew likes topics. Anyone that can coherently come up with a good answer to this question, go for it. Send it to Drew.

Drew returns tomorrow, assuming his computer isn't acting up. That's been an issue lately. Darn unreliable things computers are! Later!
