Shining Soul

It's been a while since there was a new game in the Shining series, and the series has ended up in a place few fans of the series could have foreseen around the time of Shining Force III: a Nintendo handheld system.

The soul still burns
Battle royale

Shining Soul seems most like Shining Wisdom in that it's an action RPG, unlike the widely known Shining Force series of strategy RPGs. Though Shining Wisdom isn't the most loved Shining game, Shining Soul looks to improve on its spiritual ancestor in a few ways. Though scant few screenshots have been released so far, the graphics seem to be a step above Wisdom's unimpressive rendered visuals.

The most notable feature, however, is the ability to link together with three other players. Players choose to be either an archer, berserker, magician, or warrior, customize the character's color scheme and stats, and head into the game.

Shining Soul is set for a Spring 2002 release in Japan, and although no American release date has been set yet, Golden Sun's localization would seem to be sign that its chances of coming here are good.
