Prerequisites: AF Pirate's Hook
This quest takes place on the SS Buccaneer; if you haven't visited
it before, know that it's a bit different from other areas: while
there's only enemies in a few areas, it's also not a town either.
Most of the action will take place in the Deckhouse, which you can
reach by going down either set of stairs and then passing through the
door. If you want to leave the ship, go through the north door
in the Deckhouse and talk to Cap'n Tusk; tell him you don't like
the ship and he'll throw you off. (Yes, this is the only way to
leave.) All the quests on the Buccaneer are activated by taking
either of the two south-pointing doors in the Deckhouse and talking
to the steersman Ramtieger. You can guide the Buccaneer around by
giving him directions; certain "tiles" (identified by Ramtieger's
quotes -- see the navigation charts map) will activate
different quests.
One of the first two quests you can attempt is "The Treasure Map";
it's the easier of the two. Start this one by sailing east three
times, then south once. You'll end up at the Mekiv Caverns, where
Cap'n Tusk enlists your aid in racing Roger's Diggers to a
treasure map.
In the caverns, head one screen northeast and then one southeast.
You'll see Roger and his Dudbear lackeys run off in search of the
map. Go northeast, then southeast again. The treasure map is
here; when you try to take it, the Dudbears all run in, try to
grab it, and end up tearing it to pieces.
One of the Dudbears remains on this screen; wait until he stops
moving, then run up and use the X button to catch him and grab
his map piece. Head back northwest, then southwest. On
the screen with the Sproutling, go southeast, and then continue
southeast another screen. There's three Dudbears here; catch
'em all, then go southwest. Two more Dudbears are lurking here;
snatch their maps pieces and go northwest two screens. Catch
the remaining Dudbears here to complete the request. Cap'n Tusk
will reward you with a pet crab for your library.
Li'l Cactus' quote: "Diggers..."
Cactus Diary:
"Today my master joined a fight between the penguins and the Dudbears. Why? I don't understand humans at all."
