Prerequisites: Fluorite
Return to the St. Mana Church in Domina, to which Inspector Boyd has
returned after an extended absence. Agree to help him find the shop
he's looking for and you'll automatically be taken to Geo. Boyd is
repulsed from the building, but your hero can enter safely. Try to
leave and Pearl will enter. Then search the case in the lower-right
corner of the room. You'll end up chatting with Florina and learning
more about the Jumi. Florina then gives you the AF Jumi's Staff, the
key to unlocking the fabled city of the Jumi. You can choose to
take either Elazul or Pearl along; Elazul is the same old Elazul you're
used to, while Pearl will transform into Blackpearl during boss battles
(but can only cower in the corner during regular encounters). Take
whichever you prefer.
Use the Jumi's Staff on an empty spot on the map to create the
Bejeweled City and enter. The city is comprised of several rings;
each has a gate that you have to open with the use of jewels. The
jewels can be found in color-coded rooms; each room contains a chest,
a battle, and one of the gems: a topaz, a sapphire, a ruby, or an emerald.
Once you've collected all four, proceed to Sappho's Gate and try to
open the door. Yet another Jewel Beast will appear. You should be
an expert at killing these by now; end its suffering quickly.>/P>
Now click on the two pedestals next to the door to place gems on them.
You have to find the correct combination (it varies); you can check
your progress by touching the door. The number of tones that sound
are the number of correct gems present (the gems could, however, be
on the wrong pedestal). Eventually, you'll discover the correct
combination and the door will open. Now return to the rooms where
you picked up the gems you just used. The gems will have respawned,
allowing you to recollect them.
Ascend through Sappho's Gate to the second tier of the city. There's
two new gem rooms here, containing an amethyst and aquamarine, as
well as a throne room (where you'll witness another flashback) and
a Sappho's Gate. You'll again have to battle a Jewel Beast (FUN!!
EXCITING!!), then you can place gems on the three pedestals. Put the
gems you used to open the first door on the same pedestals here, then
just try other gems on the leftmost pillar until you can get the door
open. Run back down to the first tier and recollect the gems a final
time. (If you used one of the gems found on the second tier, be sure
to get that one too.)
The third tier has another flashback screen, as well as the final
Sappho's Gate and a jewel room with a diamond. This jewel room also
contains a Machine Golem mini-boss that yields a sizable amount of
experience; if you want to level up your character, just run in and
out of here. When you examine the third Sappho's Gate, you'll find
a brand new and completely original boss -- wait, no, it's just another
Jewel Beast. Defeat it (yawn) and do the standard gem routine: place
the known gems on the two pillars close to the door and the leftmost
one. Then fiddle with the last pillar until you can open the door.
Ascend the stairs and enter the Room of the Clarius.
Like any good villains, Sandra and Lord Jewels will explain their plan,
then you'll be called on to battle Lord Jewels. Jewels moves around
quite a bit; when he flies to the center, he'll shoot a large beam
forward. He also tosses out jewels; these will all explode at once,
so stick away from them. When you take away Lord Jewels' initial
life bar, Sandra feeds him her core, and you're taken to the Sparkling
Vortex to battle Jewels' obligatory true form. Lord of Jewels 1000
has a lot of HP, plus he hovers, which makes him hard to hit. If
you have (Black)Pearl along, be sure to make use of her synchro
effect. Defeating Lord of Jewels 1000 completes the Jumi story arc.
Enjoy the ending; it's a good one.
And after completing the quest, be sure to return to the repopulated
Bejeweled City, where you'll find all the Jumi you encountered
throughout the game, as well as palette-swapped cloned townspeople. You
can recruit Elazul and Pearl as NPCs from
the throne room on the second tier, and there's a shop on the third
tier. (Note that the jewel rooms still have monsters inside, if you
want to fight the Machine Golem some more.) In addition, if you take
Pearl to the temple, one of Sandra's infamous notes will fall down; examine it
for an extra little scene.
Li'l Cactus' quote: "I gonna cry..."
Cactus Diary:
"I guess there is a place called the Bejeweled City in this world, but that name sounds fakey. I think my master was making up this story."
