Prerequisites: AF Flame
Use the AF Flame to create Gato Grottoes in Landmake. Enter the
town and, on the town map, go north into the shopping area. (The
south path leads into a dungeon you can't access.) Talk to the
first person you see to trigger the "Flame of Hope" quest.
Check out the shops if you want, then follow the Sproutling by
going one screen up and then one up and right. The Sproutling
runs off a second time; descend from this terrace and take the
other fork to the temple (you'll cross the town map again on the
way). Enter and talk to the Sproutling,
then go back to the upper-right terrace. After the scene there,
return to the temple once more and talk to the unconscious
nun. Inspector Boyd shows up, hunting for Gem Thief Sandra.
Return to the terrace; Sandra makes off with Rubens' core before
you can stop her. Talk to the dying Rubens; you'll automatically
be taken to the temple. Agree to help Boyd.
Work your way back down Gato to the entrance of the town map.
Head southwest from here into the Pathways of Asceticism. The
guard will let you into the dungeon. For an early dungeon,
the Pathways are fairly complicated; fortunately, there's an
easy route to the exit. Go in the second cave entrance to
your left. Sneak straight to the right around the Moldy Goo
(though there's nothing wrong with fighting it -- this is just
a time-saving measure) and follow the leaves down the stairs
and outside again. Just head west and you'll be back on the
town map.
Head west to the waterfall. Stop to admire the scenery, then
cross the river on the small log and go in the cave on the
next screen. You'll emerge at the upper-left corner of the
town map, head south and then east along the little path to
the Cancun Bird Nest. The Sproutling is here, and you'll
see this quest's concluding scenes.
Now that you've cleared the Pathways of Asceticism once,
you don't have to keep fighting through them. When you step
onto their "dot" on the town map, you can choose to either
warp to the other side or enter the dungeon, a time-saving
feature that you'll appreciate in quests to come.
Li'l Cactus' quote: "Popo bugs are friends."
Cactus Diary:
"Popo bug is reeaaally long, with lots and lots of knobs, and it's easy to break one Popo bug to make two Popo bugs. Who gets hurt when a Popo bug is in someone's tummy? The Popo bug?"
