Prerequisites: AF Stone Eye
Create Lake Kilma on Landmake. You may want to add Bud to your
party at this point; the next quest offers a chance to meet with
one of the Wisdoms (see the Seven Wisdoms quest for
details).
Enter Lake Kilma. You'll have your first meeting with
Cap'n Tusk and his Pirate Penguins here; talk to them and they'll
demand you give them the secret password. Answer "What?" (it's
the password!) and they'll all run off. Follow them two
screens to the left. You'll see a bunch of petrified penguins
here. Collect the Fish Meat from the chest, then continue northeast.
Fight through the next screen to a second intersection.
Here, you'll meet Tote the Turtle, one of the Wisdoms. He'll
cast a spell on you so that you can see faeries; if you have Bud
along, Tote will also add more to your World History Encyclopedia.
If you want, venture down the northeast path for a Sleepy Eye;
otherwise, go southeast into the "Into the Woods" section.
Go east one screen and you'll see the Pirate Penguins again;
they retreat back to the ship. Save your game at the save point
if you want.
Go northeast at this intersection. This screen contains the rare
Beholder enemies, but they're actually quite easy. Collect the
White Feather from the chest and continue southeast until you
reach another screen with faeries. Go due east into a large
clearing, the North Shore. Grab the two chests here (Poison Powder
and Ear of Wheat), then head northwest for two screens. An
automated scene will take place here; when you regain control of
your character, jump off the cliff. There's another scene, and
then it's time to battle the Gorgon's Eye itself.
For an early boss, the Gorgon's Eye can be moderately challenging;
its beams can turn you to stone. The stoning effect wears off
quickly, however. The Gorgon's Eye also teleports around. Save
your special techniques until just after it reappears (so you know
it won't teleport away while you're trying to attack). When the
Gorgon's Eye goes down, the Pirate Penguins will return and reward
you with either a piece of metal or an Artifact.
Li'l Cactus' quote: "Penguin statue."
Cactus Diary:
"Lots of penguins fell into the lake, and their cap'n was thrown in there by a turtle after being changed into stone! Penguins can swim, but stone can't! Was the cap'n okay? What a scary, scary story."
