You See What I Saw It Was
[04.02.00] » by Laura Cullem
I think it was the metal
That I noticed first
Tarnished well, like an antique
In crimson glaze immersed
The word it whispered:
"Beauty"
Pounded in my brain
And gave me joy, so much joy
A word that kept me sane
Blood I noticed next, I think
Blood, the thing that warms
Whether dancing beneath the skin
Or saturating forms
A drop of it, I focused on
That like the pewter shone
And like the red, the brightness there
The two, together sewn
You see it was not he, but me
I kept it in my mind
For as long as that metal lived
That metal lived as mine.
