Artist's Commentary

My pictures tend to be pretty straightforward, so there's generally not a whole lot that can be said about them. I guess my reason (one of them, at any rate) for doing this one is that I didn't much care for Toriyama's rendition of Frog. Somehow it didn't fit my idea of how the character should look (this may have been somewhat presumptuous of me -- who am I, after all, to dictate how someone else's character should look? -- but there it is nonetheless). So, I decided to do a "portrait" of Frog that was closer to my own conception of the character. This is what emerged. The valiant amphibian is shown in a rather stereotypical "heroic" pose, wearing that solemn/bored expression that most people wear when posing for portraits. He clearly wants to be taken seriously, but is thwarted in this by the fact that he is, after all, a giant frog in armor. He may be a knight, he may be an expert swordsman, he may have helped save the world from certain destruction, but, due to his appearance, people will still tend to view him as something of a joke.
So it goes.
On the quality of the piece itself I will not comment (except to say that I'm not totally satisfied with how the head came out); I'll just let you judge for yourselves.
