Sweet. Version 1.7: I needed to do a MAJOR format change for all of my FAQs so they would all look alike. There is also a bit of content updated in here also. -----------------------------------STORY----------------------------------- Note: A dead stick could come up with a better storyline in the first couple stages, but the rest is quite interesting. One day we see Princess Toadstool sitting outside Mario's house looking at flowers, alone (here it comes!). Suddenly, the sky goes back and our favorite Mario villain snatches her away (I won't tell who, because it's so obvious). Anyways, Mario goes into Bowser's Keep and, well, you know the rest. Just before Mario unties the Princess, the keep starts shaking. The camera goes outside just in time to see a giant sword bust through the "Star Road" (explained later) and crashes into the keep, knocking the inhabitants out. We then see the seven broken star pieces fall to the ground, the 7th one dropping down onto the sword just as the screen begins to fade away... After crash landing back at his house and listening to Toad, Mario heads back to the keep to rescue Princess Toadstool. While he's standing on the bridge between the keep and Vista Hill, he sees the sword for the first time. The sword explains about the "Smithy Gang" and their plans to take over the world. He then breaks the bridge and the keep is unaccessable, until later. The main object of the game is to work your way through the levels, defeat the members of the "Smithy Gang", and collect the seven star pieces. He will not go alone, though. He will be joined by a prince-who-thinks-he's-a-tadpole, a mysterious spirit from the Star Road disguised as a doll, and two "mystery characters". (Hint: Villains and damsels-in-distress make good companions, sometimes. Not me. Anyways, Mario comes in with his traditional hammers, fire, and jumps. You start out the game with him. *TIMED ATTACKS* Punches: Press the A button just before he punches. Hammers: Press the A button really close to when he makes impact with the first swing. Shells: Press the A button right after the shell comes down so Mario can kick it at the enemy. *SPECIAL ATTACKS* -JUMP- *Level Learned: Mario begins with it. *FP Used: 3 *MP Rating: 25 *Classification: Jump *Description: Stomp foes! Push "Y" just before hit! *My Comments: Jump is very useful early in the game. Learn how to time it, as you can do major damage while applying the timing with Super and Ultra Jumps. -FIRE ORB- *Level Learned: Mario learns it at Level 3. *FP Used: 5 *MP Rating: 20 *Classification: Fire *Description: Fire orb! Push "Y" repeatedly! *My Comments: This is Mario's basic fire attack. Learn how to press the Y button quickly, as the Super and Ultra Flames will do tons of damage with multiple hits. -SUPER JUMP- *Level Learned: Mario learns it at Level 6. *FP Used: 7 *MP Rating: 45 *Classification: Jump *Description: Push "Y" prior to hit for DAMAGE! *My Comments: This is an advanced form of the Jump. If you time it correctly, Mario will bounce off the enemy and begin another jump attack. Keep timing it and Mario will keep jumping. If you do 30 or 100, you can get items. The timing changes every few jumps, so pay attention. -SUPER FLAME- *Level Learned: Mario learns it at Level 10. *FP Used: 9 *MP Rating: 40 *Classification: Fire *Description: Fire blast! Push "Y" repeatedly! *My Comments: This attack deserves a higher MP rating then the Super Jump. Performed correctly, and this will certainly unleash a lot of damage on unsuspecting opponents. Any enemies weak against Fire are in for a lot of trouble! -ULTRA JUMP- *Level Learned: Mario learns it at Level 14. *FP Used: 11 *MP Rating: 65 *Classification: Jump *Description: Push "Y" prior to hit for DAMAGE! *My Comments: This atacks has the highest MP rating! It is very similar to the Super Jump, except this time Mario can jump off one enemy and onto another! The enemies he attacks and in what order are always random, but it is very useful in a room full of weak-to-jump enemies (try using it on the Heavy Troopas in Nimbus Land!). -ULTRA FLAME- *Level Learned: Mario learns it at Level 18. *FP Used: 14 *MP Rating: 60 *Classification: Fire *Description: Fire orbs! Press "Y" repeatedly! *My Comments: As with the Ultra Jump, this attack randomly hits more than one enemy on the screen. If you ever get to Level 18 on the Sunken Ship, use it to make fried squid (as in, King Calamari squid!). =========================================================================== MALLOW =========================================================================== Only 2 people know exactly who Mallow is, and they are his parents. To find his parents, he decided to travel along with Mario, at Frogfucius's request. His true past helps foil one villain's plan in Nimbus Land. Mallow joins you in Mushroom Kingdom when you agree to help him chase Croco. *TIMED ATTACKS* Punches: Press the A button just before he punches. Sticks: Press the A button just before the stick hits the enemy. Cymbals: Press the A button just before the attack is over. *SPECIAL ATTACKS* -THUNDERBOLT- *Level Learned: Mallow begins with it. *FP Used: 2 *MP Rating: 15 *Classification: Thunder *Description: Hit "Y" just before bolt ends! *My Comments: This is a very potent attack early on, and in a few cases later on. Just for this and other attacks, Mallow should always be in your party, except in some boss battles. -HP RAIN- *Level Learned: Mallow learns it at Level 3. *FP Used: 2 *MP Rating: 10 *Classification: N/A *Description: HP renewal! Hit "Y" just before shower ends! *My Comments: Until Toadstool joins you, this is the only HP-recovering special attack. Actually, not very useful, unless you're out of Mushrooms and you have a few extra FP to burn. -PSYCHOPATH- *Level Learned: Mallow learns it at Level 6. *FP Used: 1 *MP Rating: N/A *Classification: N/A *Description: See foe's HP and... secrets! *My Comments: For 1 FP to see inside an enemy's mind, this is a bargain. To time, press Y just before the two spotlights converge. The message given sometimes gives a hint on what attack to use, or they're just plain silly. -SHOCKER- *Level Learned: Mallow learns it at Level 10. *FP Used: 8 *MP Rating: 60 *Classification: Thunder *Description: Hit "Y" just before bolt ends! *My Comments: Imagine Mallow's Thunderbolt attack contained into one giant bolt and focused on just 1 enemy. Use this attack, and see if it's what you imagined. This is EXTREMELY useful in the later stgaes, especially within the battle with Culex... -SNOWY- *Level Learned: Mallow learns it at Level 14. *FP Used: 12 *MP Rating: 40 *Classification: Ice *Description: Snowman fells foes! *My Comments: This must be the longest attack in the game (besides Geno Flash). Anyways, it creates a blizzard, then a giant snowman drops on the enemies and disappears. Very useful in the Barrel Volcano. -STAR RAIN- *Level Learned: Mallow learns it at Level 18. *FP Used: 14 *MP Rating: 55 *Classification: N/A *Description: Star showers! Hit "Y" just upon contact! *My Comments: I don't use this very often, because is hard to do and doesn't do too much damage. The timing is similar to the Super Jump. If you want a good multi-enemy attack, use the Geno Blast or Geno Flash. Don't waste 14 FP on this. =========================================================================== GENO =========================================================================== If you're a big fan of magic attacks, this is your guy. His real name is really hard to pronounce, so he took the name of Geno, from the doll. You see, he's from the Star Road, and since he's a spirit, he took the form of the doll by breathing life into it. He offically joins your party after you save him from Bowyer. *TIMED ATTACKS* Punches: Press the A button just before he punches. Guns: Press the A button just before he shoots. *SPECIAL ATTACKS* -GENO BEAM- *Level Learned: Geno begins with it. *FP Used: 3 *MP Rating: 40 *Classification: N/A *Description: Hold "Y" until just before discharge! *My Comments: Since none of Geno's attacks (which all start with Geno) have a classification, they work on all enemies. That's a good thing. Only use this when there's one enemy on screen. -GENO BOOST- *Level Learned: Geno learns it at Level 8. *FP Used: 4 *MP Rating: N/A *Classification: N/A *Description: Attack up! Push "Y" just before end! *My Comments: I almost NEVER use this attack. In fact, I almost never use Bracer, Energizer or any other of those items. But, this is actually a very good attack to use. -GENO WHIRL- *Level Learned: Geno learns it at Level 11. *FP Used: 8 *MP Rating: 45 *Classification: N/A *Description: Press "Y" prior to contact for critical hit! *My Comments: Unless you can time it right, this is totally useless. But, if you time it right, it does 9999 damage (instant death!). It doesn't work on stronger enemies or all bosses, though. -GENO BLAST- *Level Learned: Geno learns it at Level 14. *FP Used: 12 *MP Rating: 50 *Classification: N/A *Description: Beam hits all foes! Energize! *My Comments: This is the best multi-enemy attack until you get Geno Flash. For only 12 FP and a three star charge-up, this is one very potent attack to use. Especially works when you're up against 4 or more enemies (6 is the max). -GENO FLASH- *Level Learned: Geno learns it at Level 17. *FP Used: 16 *MP Rating: 60 *Classification: N/A *Description: Build power! Beam hits all foes! *My Comments: THE BEST MULTI-ENEMY ATTACK IN THE GAME! Once you have this, the Geno Blast is obsolete, except when you have less than 16 FP. This is most effective against 4-6 enemies, just like the Geno Blast. And yes, all of his special attacks begin with his name, so bummer. =========================================================================== BOWSER =========================================================================== To quote the Chancellor: "WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?" That's a perfect way to sum it up. THIS STORYLINE IS MESSED UP! (Sorry for all of the capitalized words.) Anyways, Bowser helps get Mario into Booster Tower, and lets him join the Koopa Troop. He joins just there, outside Booster Tower. *TIMED ATTACKS* Claws: Press the A button just before the first swipe. Chomps/Spiked Link: Press the A button just before he throws. Hurly Gloves: Press the A button just before Mario hits the enemy. *SPECIAL ATTACKS* -TERRORIZE- *Level Learned: Bowser starts with it. *FP Used: 6 *MP Rating: 10 *Classification: Fear *Description: Scare 'em good! *My Comments: I never use Bowser in battle, so I'll do my best to come up with comments. Anyways, use the rotate the control pad to do damage. If the enemy has a weakness to fear, they'll be affected by it. Otherwise, they'll just take damage. -POISON GAS- *Level Learned: Bowser learns it at Level 12. *FP Used: 10 *MP Rating: 20 *Classification: Poison *Description: Poison foes! *My Comments: Basically the same as Terrorize, except Bowser attacks with poison and it's more powerful. Poison will take HP off the enemy every attack turn until it wears off. -CRUSHER- *Level Learned: Bowser learns it at Level 15. *FP Used: 12 *MP Rating: 60 *Classification: N/A *Description: Rock slide! Hit "Y" prior to contact! *My Comments: This is not a very potent attack to use. I'd rather take 4 Geno Beams or a Geno Blast instead of this. I'm not a real Bowser fan, so this is just my opinion. -BOWSER CRUSH- *Level Learned: Bowser learns it at Level 18. *FP Used: 16 *MP Rating: 58 *Classification: N/A *Description: Bowser's ultimate weapon! *My Comments: THIS ATTACK IS NOT WORTH 16 FP! Use Geno Flash instead. All of Bowser's attacks are wastes of memory, although Terrorize and Poison Gas have long reaching effects. =========================================================================== TOADSTOOL =========================================================================== Something's really wrong now. HOW COULD TOADSTOOL BE ON THE SAME SIDE AS BOWSER?! Some questions will never be answered. Toadstool joins your party in Marrymore, then permanently upon the 3rd visit to Mushroom Kingdom. *TIMED ATTACKS* Slaps: Press the A button just before the first slap. Parasol: Press the A button just upon impact. War Fan: Press the A button just upon impact. Where are they? =========================================================================== A: There are invisible treasure boxes scattered throughout the game, 39 to be exact. Here is a complete list of locations for each one. ---MUSHROOM KINGDOM--- 1)(Frog Coin) You can only perform this if it's on your first visit, after defeating the Hammer Brothers. When you enter the castle, Toad will begin walking down the hallway. Jump on his head and jump to the ledge above the door. 2)(Flower) Go into the item shop, and downstairs to the basement. Talk to the guy and follow his directions. It's right above where he originally stood. 3)(Flower) You must be patient for this one. After getting the previous one, jump on his head and wait until he walks to the far-right corner, then jump. This might take a while. ---BANDIT'S WAY--- 4)(Kerokero Cola) Remember the second spinning flower in the 2nd area? Jump on it, then jump off, aiming for the purple flower, or just jump off straight right. You'll hit it at the top of your jump. ---ROSE TOWN--- 5)(Frog Coin) Go into the item shop, and jump onto the bookshelf behind the shopkeepers. It is at the furthest left extent of it. 6)(Frog Coin) Hop on the guy's head near the house-on-a-hill to get up there. Go inside, and go up to the 2nd floor. It is located right above the bed. ---FOREST MAZE--- 7)(Kerokero Cola) As soon as you enter, go to the far left corner. It'll be right there. 8)(Frog Coin) After you exit the first cave, go to the far left corner. It should be there. 9)(Flower) In the room with 7 stumps, jump into the furthest right one. It is right above the patch of light in the middle of the room. 10)(Empty!) In the room with 7 stumps, going from the entrance to the room, enter the left stump in the 2nd row. It's in the corner behind the trampoline. There's NOTHING inside! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (sorry!) 11)(Kerokero Cola) In the room with 7 stumps, go into the far back one. After you wake up thr Wiggler and you come flying out, go back in and it's right above where the Wiggler was. 12)(Red Essence) In the room with the Save Block, go into the far right corner. This forest is full of secret items! ---PIPE VAULT--- 13)(Frog Coin) In the room with 6 pipes, go down the second one from the left. Go one space left of the end of the higher ledge and jump to reveal a platform. It's around the 2nd or 3rd block. 14)(Frog Coin) In the same room, it's about 2 or 3 blocks right of the previous one. ---YO'STER ISLE--- 15)(Frog Coin) After you emerge from the pipe exit of the Pipe Vault, jump behind the Save Block and you will find it. ---BOOSTER PASS--- 16)(Flower) Go to the far left part of the first area and jump onto the flower. It's right above there. 17)(Rock Candy) Just before the exit to the first area, go into the small alcove just to the left of it. ---BOOSTER TOWER--- 18)(Frog Coin) In the room with the eternal line of Spookums, go to the furthest right dark block on the back wall, about where they turn and go down the staircase. 19)(Frog Coin) In the room right above the Thwomp teeter-totter, go to the far left corner on the lowest level. 20)(Goodie Bag) In the room just before the curtain game room, jump up the yelloe blocks onto the visible one. It's right above it. 21)(Mushroom) In the same room, go to the corner directly next to the right exit. This one restores all HP AND FP. ---MARRYMORE--- 22)(Frog Coin) Walk into the inn/item shop and go up to the 2nd floor. Enetr the normal room and jump onto the bookshelf in the far left corner. ---SUNKEN SHIP--- 23)(Kerokero Cola) This one is interesting. In the room with the Mario clone, you have to make a block appear to show the treasure box, then you must jump onto the clone's head to get up to it. ---LAND'S END--- 24)(Red Essence) In the first room, use the cannon to shoot onto the moving platforms. You will need to jump STRAIGHT forward(/\) at the exact top of the platform's ascent to get it. 25)(Kerokero Cola) In the second room, jump between the cannon and the plateau to find a hidden platform. Use the cannon to shoot into the hole with the three Chows. After defeating them, get on the left side of the hole, near the higher plateau, and jump around for another platform. Get back in the cannon and shoot to the new platform. After getting the moving treasure box, jump onto the higher plateau and go to the far left side. Sorry this description was so long, but it takes a while to reach. 26)(Frog Coin) In the room with spinning flowers and Stingers, go to the two purple flowers on the far right part of the room, jump on one of them, and jump to the other. You should get it. 27)(Frog Coin) Enter the cave below the Sky Bridge. After passing the Chow, go into the furthest back corner. You might need to search, as it is hard to explain this one. ---BELOME'S TEMPLE--- 28)(Frog Coin) In the room after your first fortune is fulfilled, jump on the higher ledges and jump on top of the visible treasure box on the left. It's right above it. 29)(Frog Coin) In the same room, go down the stairs and go into the alcove directly right of it. ---MONSTRO TOWN--- 30)(Frog Coin) In the room just before the exit, jump into the space between the corner and the bush. ---BEAN VALLEY--- 31)(Rock Candy) When you enter, go into the right pipe, and you'll find it in the far left corner. 32)(Kerokero Cola) In the room with 5 Piranha Plants in pipes, go into the lower right one and it'll be near the far left corner. 33)(Red Essence) In the room with 5 Piranha Plants in pipes, go into the far right one and it's in the corner halfway between the trampoline and those stairs. ---NIMBUS LAND--- 34)(Frog Coin) Go into the item shop, jump onto the highest point of the crates, and jump towards the shopkeeper. 35)(Frog Coin) Go to the hallway with the three doors, and go into the left door. Work your way to the Jawful, defeat it, and it'll be right above where you found it. 36)(Frog Coin) In the same room as the last one, walk directly left to walk out into space, and it'll be at the end of the path. 37)(Frog Coin) After you beat Birdo, go to the next room, with the Jawful. Jump on top of the visible box. It's right above it. 38)(Frog Coin) After defeating Valentina, go to the hallway with the three doors, and go to the right of the birdcage next to the left door. ---SMITHY FACTORY--- 39)(Mushroom) In the room with the second Save Block, go to the corner directly left of the block. That's the last one. If you ever want to know how many boxes you missed, talk to the Pandorite in Monstro Town. Since I haven't actually gathered all 39 on one file (although I have found all of them), I don't know what happens, but I think you don't get anything for gathering all 39, except personal satisfaction and all of the items inside the boxes. It's fun to try to get all 39, but it's not that hard once you know where they are. This is an easier challenge than trying to get 30 or 100 Super Jumps, and a whole lot more possible. I think you should get something for finding all 39. If you're having problems figuring out which rooms they are in, equip the Signal Ring from Croco to find the correct rooms. =========================================================================== Q: How do I work out the Menu (pause) screen? =========================================================================== A: Press the X button while on the normal screen to bring it up. Press A once to see what weapon you have and to pick a target. Press A again to attack. To time it, press the A button at the time the different weapons specify (see Timed Attacks under each character). B Button: Etc.: There are two commands under this one. If you choose Defense, your character will shield themselves and cut damage by 1/2 (if you do a timed block here also, it'll be cut by 3/4!). If you choose Run Away, that's exactly what will happen. Sometimes you can't run away because the option is deactivated, one of your characters has a status problem, or the game just won't let you. X Button: Item: Choose which item you want to use. Press X once to se your inventory. Choose an item and press X to decide who to use it on, then press it again to use it. Sometimes you'll get "a freebie". It either occurs randomly, or maybe you time it like your attack and defense... Y Button: Special: Don't use this one too often, unless you have plenty of FP. Press Y once to choose an available attack (unavailable if not learned, not enough FP, or no use for like Toadstool's Come Back). Press Y again to decide who to use it on, then press Y again to commence the attack. Use the specific directions for each attack to pull them off right. ---STATUS--- I know, you've heard me talk about status so much, but you're probably wondering what it is. Well, status is what condition your characters are in. There are 7 different kinds of status: *Normal: All commands available, no effects *Fear: All commands available, all stats cut in half *Poison: All commands available, HP taken off each battle turn (figured out by taking your HP, dividing it by 10, and the decimals are cut off without rounding) *Sleep: No commands available, vulnerable to attacks, wake up after normal attack or out of HP *Silence: Special command not available, no other effects *Scarecrow: Attack and item commands not available, no other effects *Mushroom: No commands available, HP regained each battle turn (same system as poison). Anyways, this visit is comprised of four rooms: Room #1: Basically, the welcoming room. Nothing to worry about. Room #2: A group of Terrapins guard this hallway. If you go into battle, just do any attack and they'll go away. Before you get to the door, you'll go into battle with 4 Terrapins. Piece of cake. Room #3: There are two bridges in this room going over the lava. Just go up to the door. Before you enter the door, Bowser will roar and the bridge right behind you will collapse. Who would want to go back anyways? Room #4: The chandalier room. Walk up to the far side of the room and you'll see two chandaliers, with Bowser on one of them. Battle time... =========================================================================== BOSS: Bowser -Bowser: N/A -Kinklink: N/A HP: 0/50 Defenses: Bowser: N/A Kinklink: N/A Weaknesses: Bowser: N/A Kinklink: N/A This is a very easy battle to win. All you have to do is aim for the Kinklink. It will take two timed Jumps or three timed punches to end the battle. =========================================================================== -After trampling Bowser, you'll see Mario up on a Kinklink, about to untie Toadstool, being tied from the ceiling. Just before it happens, the castle will shake. Moving outside, you'll see a sword come through the sky (wait, I'm retelling the story). =========================================================================== MARIO'S PAD =========================================================================== -Ah, Mario's humble pipehouse. The giant pipe up there, what can it be used for? Let's find out, shall we? -At first, you'll see Toad standing outside, waiting for Mario, then he'll see Mario come flying and go through that oversized pipe atop his house. Toad the comes in, and says something about people normally use doors to get in and out of their houses, then go outside. Go talk to him, and he'll suggest you go back to Bowser's Keep to rescue the Princess. Save your game here, then go to Bowser's Keep again. =========================================================================== BOWSER'S KEEP =========================================================================== -Rule #1: If a giant sword is about to destroy the bridge you're on, run straight for the other side. Rule #2: Omit Rule #1 if Toadstool isn't inside. Anyways, after the sword talks about the Smithy Gang's plans for world domination, he'll shake and break the bridge between the keep and nearby Vista Hill. =========================================================================== VISTA HILL =========================================================================== -If you come here, all you'll see is Mario looking at the Keep, then he'll walk away. Totally pointless to do. =========================================================================== MARIO'S PAD =========================================================================== -After the encounter, go back here and go inside the pipehouse. Talk to Toad, and he'll ask where the Princess is. Then Mario will do one of his (in)famous no-talk stories. After that, Toad will suggest going to Mushroom Kingdom to tell the Chancellor. Save your game, then attempt to leave. Toad will come crashing in, bump you, and take off 1 HP. Then, he'll give you a Mushroom. When he asks if you know how to usr items, say yes, because if he goes through the procedure, you'll waste the Mushroom. After that lesson, a Goomba will come in and Toad will ask if you know about Timed Hits. For the love of God, say YES! If you say no, you'll waste 3 FP in the procedure, and you need all the FP you can get. After the lessons, Toad will give you 3 Mushrooms, and head off to Mushroom Way. Save your game now, as there are no Save Blocks in Mushroom Way, then follow Toad. =========================================================================== MUSHROOM WAY =========================================================================== -Your first real "level". This mountain pass is full of Goombas, Sky Troopas, and Spikeys. There are many battle combinations here. If you hit a Goomba, you'll go into battle with either two or three of them. If you hit a Sky Troopa, you'll battle one or two of them. If you touch a Spikey, you'll go into battle with either two Spikeys or a Spikey and a Sky Troopa. There are only two things to worry about in battle: 1) If Mario isn't at least at Level 2, a timed punch will not take out a Sky Troopa (most of the time). Use a Jump attack instead. 2) If Mario isn't at least at Level 3, a timed punch will not take out a Spikey (most of the time). Don't use Jump attacks, they are useless. -In the 1st area, Toad is being held by a Goomba. Defeat the Goomba and Toad will be so happy he'll give you a Honey Syrup. In the 2nd area, Toad will get captured again by a Sky Troopa. Defeat the Goomba on the spinning flower and jump onto the right plateau. Defeat the Sky Troopa and Toad will give you a Flower Tab. Before using it, get back on the flower and jump to the left plateau for a Flower. Hit the ? Box on the far right side to refill your HP and FP. Go into the 3rd room, and defeat enough Spikeys to get to at least Level 3 or 4. Gee, what a surprise. At the end, Toad is captured yet again, this time by a Hammer Brother. Walk up to him twice to go into battle... =========================================================================== BOSS: Hammer Brothers -Hammer Bro (x2): N/A HP: 50 Defenses: N/A Weaknesses: Jump You must beat two of these monsters to get to Mushroom Kingdom. To beat the first one, use one timed Jump and one timed punch attack. After one is dead, the other one will do Valor Up, doubling his defenses. For the second one, use two timed Jumps and one or two timed punches. Alternate strategy: Get one of the Hammer Brother's HP very low, then defeat the other one. Then you can take out the Valored Up one with about one shot. You get a Flower Jar and a Hammer for winning. =========================================================================== -After the battle, Mario will get his first weapon, a Hammer. Equip it, and try it out on the Spikeys in the same room. After having a little fun, go to Mushroom Kingdom. =========================================================================== MUSHROOM KINGDOM =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #1-3 INN: 3 coins ITEM SHOP: _____________________ |Mushroom | 4 coins| |Honey Syrup |10 coins| |Pick Me Up | 5 coins| |Able Juice | 4 coins| |Jump Shoes |30 coins| |Antidote Pin|28 coins| |Shirt | 7 coins| |Pants | 7 coins| -The first town in the game is none other than the famous Mushroom Kingdom. Don't worry about going into battle. You can't here, until later. Anyways, go to the Inn, save your game, then go to the Item Shop and buy a Shirt, some Pants, a pair of Jump Shoes, an Antidote Pin, and items. If you don't have enough money, just at least get the Shirt and Pants. Now it's time to enter Mushroom Castle. Go inside, and follow Toad through thr main hallway and a small room to the Chancellor's throne room. As if you didn't know, after all the talking and story telling, he'll finally get down to business. First, if you didn't equip the Hammer, he'll ask you if Toad should tell you. Say no. After that, he'll give you a Map and he'll suggest you go down to meet the Vault Guard. Go down there and get the 10 coins, flower, and mushroom. Now, from the main hallway, go into the left door and up the steps to Toadstool's room. To make the maid mad, go between the fireplace and the blue chair and press A to search. Search long enough and you'll find Toadstool's ???. You probably won't have time to find out what it is, because the maid will yell at you and give you a Mushroom. Now, go outside, and try to walk down. -This scene shows Croco running across the screen, followed by Mallow, our favorite marshmallow/cloud puff. After a while, Croco will escape and Mallow will start crying. Go up and talk to him, and agree to help him chase Croco. Now, equip Mallow with the Pants you got and the Antidote Pin (if you have it). To get a free Pick Me Up, go into the shop and talk to the shopkeeper. He'll give it to you after he's done talking. Go outside, and talk to the jumping guy near the eastern exit. He'll mention that he saw Croco, then Croco will walk on screen and run right past them. After the talking is over, exit through the eastern exit and go to Bandit's Way. =========================================================================== BANDIT'S WAY =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOX #4 -Don't be surprised if you go into battle a lot here. Goombas, Spikeys, and K- 9s run amok in this dead-end pass. Basically, the object is to follow Croco and trap him enough to go into battle. -If you every run into a Frogog during battle (and you will), the srategy is like this: If he's with Spikeys and/or Goombas' have Mario use his hammer and Mallow do his Thunderbolt attack. They'll be all gone. -There is a save block in the lower-left corner of the 1st area. Hit it, go into battle with the enemies if you want, and go to the next room. In the 2nd room, you need to know how to use the spinning flowers and the rotating platforms. Use the flower to jump up to the plateau blocking the path. To work the platforms, step on the right-most one. The left one will rotate 180 degrees and end up right in front of the one you're on. If you really want to raise your levels, you can face an unlimited supply of K-9s, thanks to two caves on opposite plateaus. Otherwise, use the platforms to get out. The second flower isn't needed to get by, but it might be of some use. The 3rd room is like the 1st room, just a path with some Goombas and Spikeys. When you reach the last fork, go right and beat the K-9, then hit the ? box for a mushroom, then go back and take the left path to continue. I love the 4th room. After Croco goes away, step on the right-most platform and hit the ? box right there for a Super Star. Now run around and hit all the K-9s ASAP. Don't worry about running out, because they will come in through the two passages. If you want to use the platforms to get to the other box, it has a Frog Coin in it. Anyways, go on to the 5th room. Looks like you and Croco have found the dead end. Now he will hide next to one of the four mini-hills in the middle. The trick is to sneak up behind him and press A. You will need to do this three times. Don't be surprised if you go into battle with a Goomba or Sky Troopa. As I said before, get him three times. Do that, and he'll go into battle... =========================================================================== BOSS: Croco -Croco: "Ooh! I'm good!" HP: 320 Special Defenses: Sleep Weaknesses: Fire Croco is actually not that hard to beat. Mario's Fire Orb is your best bet here. He will get "stunned" after the first use, but only after the first turn. Mallow's attacks are useless, so either put him in Defense, use Mushrooms or HP Rain, or use Honey Syrup. Just before he runs out of HP, he'll use a Weird Mushroom, restoring 60 HP. This is an easy battle. At the end you'll get a Flower Tab, a Wallet, and Frogfucius's Rare Frog Coin. =========================================================================== After you get all the stuff, including the Rare Frog Coin, jump on the trampoline to go back to the save block, then exit and go back to Mushroom Kingdom. =========================================================================== MUSHROOM KINGDOM =========================================================================== -Like I said before, you will go into battle here sometime. It seems that a group of Shysters have taken over. If you're wondering, this isn't Bowser's fault; it's Smithy's. The Shysters are easy to beat if Mallow is at least to Level 4. Use Thunderbolt to get rid of them. you will go into battle with either two or three of those monsters. There are various items you can gather here by saving people: *Defeat the Shyster bugging the mushroom guy near the eastern exit to get 10 coins. *Defeat the Shyster bugging the guy in the front lawn of the eastern-most house, then give the guy back his wallet for a Flower Tab. Come back to him later in the game for a Frog Coin. *Defeat the 3 Shysters in the western-most house for a Flower Tab. *Inside the castle, defeat the Shyster bugging Toad, then the three (or should it be 4) that are blocking the passage to Toadstool's room, then go inside. Answer "You bet" to the question to get a Flower Tab (Toadstool's ???, maybe). *Go into the guest room (right side of castle, room opposite vault) and talk to the Vault Guard and get a Wake-Up Pin. Now go into the vault and get the items again. -Now you're ready to go into the Chancellor's throne room. Have your charatcers at least at Level 6 before going in, because Mario's Super Jump is super- effective. Now, to kill Mack... =========================================================================== BOSS: Mack -Mack: "Boing, boing, boing." -Bodyguard (x4): "Boing, boing, boing." HP: 480/30 Defenses: Mack: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Bodyguard: N/A Weaknesses: Mack: Thunder Bodyguard: N/A Mack is not really that hard, either. Have Mario and Mallow built up to at least Level 6. Have Mario use Super Jump on Mack and Mallow use Thunderbolt on everybody. Mack will be "stunned" after Mallow's first Thunderbolt attack. Have Mario then use Super Jump and Mallow use Thunderbolt or Honey Syrup. In other words: Use Super Jump on Mack, Thunderbolt on everybody, and Honey Syrup if you run out of FP. You get the first Star Piece when you beat Mack. =========================================================================== After beating Mack, you'll get the 1st star piece. After the Chancellor restores order and Mallow suggests going to Tadpole Pond, exit the castle. Now go to the shop, and talk to the shopkeeper. Since you got the coin back, Mallow can finally get the Cricket Pie for his grandpa. Now, exit, and go to the Kero Sewers. =========================================================================== KERO SEWERS =========================================================================== -This place is an FAQ writer's nightmare. Since I have a map of this level, I can hopefully give you a good explanation of two different paths, the quickest one and the extended (get all the items) one: *THE QUICK PATH* First, enter the level and go through the pipe leading down into the sewers. Save your game, then jump into the water and swim as far right as you can and enter that pipe. Stay along the back wall and go into the pipe on the left side. Staying along the right wall, cross the narrow bridge with a Rat Funk on it, then enter that pipe, which will be the furthest right one. Go up the steps and jump on the switch to drain the water. Go back through the pipe, then jump down and go into the pipe in the lower-left hand corner and you'll end up on the upper level of the room with the switch. Save your game, then hit the ? box next to it for a mushroom. Don't worry about the ? box on the highest ledge. Go through the pipe on the right side to battle Belome. *THE EXTENDED PATH* First, enter the level and go through the pipe leading down into the sewers. Save your game, then jump into the water and swim as far right as you can and enter that pipe. Jump down to the pipe just below where you emerge and enter that one. Go to the right and enter that pipe. Now, go down to the lowest level, up the steps, and hit the ? box to battle Pandorite. Use Super Jump a couple times to beat him. He'll give you a Flower Jar and a Trueform Pin. Equip Mario with it. now, get on the second star from the top, and jump up to where you dropped down from. Go to the left to get the flower from the ? box, then work your way up to the pipe and go in. Hit the ? box to get a Super Star, then take out the Rat Funks and the Boo in the upper-right corner, then enter the pipe in the upper-left corner. Staying along the back wall, go into the next pipe. Staying along the right wall, cross the narrow bridge with a Rat Funk on it, then enter that pipe, which will be the furthest right one. Go up the steps and jump on the switch to drain the water. Go back through the pipe, then jump down and go into the pipe in the lower-left hand corner and you'll end up on the upper level of the room with the switch. Save your game, then hit the ? box next to it for a mushroom. Don't worry about the ? box on the highest ledge. Go through the pipe on the right side to battle Belome. *Note: I know these directions might be confusing to understand, but you'll get them after a while. -Time to get rid of Belome... =========================================================================== BOSS: Belome -Belome: "I just... wanna sleep." HP: 500 Special Defenses: Sleep Weaknesses: Thunder You will meet Belome twice in the game, once here and again in Belome's Temple, between Land's End and Monstro Town. If you don't have a Trueform Pin on Mario, Mallow gets eaten, and you're out of FP, you'll hate this battle (there's a 90% chance that won't happen). Anyways, have Mario use Super Jump and Mallow use Thunderbolt. Belome does have sleep attacks, so be careful. He will attempt to do S'Crow Funk on Mario, and might even EAT Mallow. Just keep attacking and restoring and Belome is history, for now. In fact, you don't even get anything for beating him, except a free trip down the Midas River (whooptydoo). =========================================================================== After the battle, you'll be able to attempt the Midas River course. =========================================================================== MIDAS RIVER =========================================================================== -Since this whole level is a mini-game, see the Mini-Games section. -At the end of this 1st ride, the mushroom guy will give you a Nok Nok Shell as a new weapon. Go straight up to the small switch/rock and a tadpole will appear. Mallow will come out and start a conversation. When they ask about your jumping ability jump. After that, then Mallow's grandfather, Frogfucius, will float on screen, being carried by a Lakitu. After many miscommunications and words exchanged, Frogfucius will tell the tadpoles to make a brid ge to his "home". Now you can talk to any of the tadpoles you want. To get an Alto Card for the juice bar, go all the way right and into Melody Bay and play Frogfucius's Suite #18 (see Mini- Games section). When that's done, go to the juice bar and buy some Elixirs, then cross the tadpole bridge. Basically, Frogfucius will give you a recap of the game from Bowser's Keep to the star piece. He will also mention that Toadstool isn't at the Keep anymore. If you payed attention, don't agree to a recap of the recap. After that, Mallow will be in for a big shock, as Frogfucius tells Mallow he's not his real grandfather and that Mallow's not a tadpole. Frogfucius suggests that Mallow follow Mario on his adventure. After that's done, go up and talk to him. If you have the Cricket Pie, he'll give you the Froggie Stick, Mallow's first weapon. Equip it, save your game at Melody Bay, and go onwards to Rose Way. =========================================================================== ROSE WAY =========================================================================== -This stage is very different. The main part of the stage is to navigate the moving platforms across the lakes to reach each island. you can find a boatload of coins, plus a flower and a mushroom. -If you go into the upper-left passage, you can get a tricky frog coin. To get to it, defeat the Shy Guy on the platform, then jump to it. From that one, jump onto the next Shy Guy and beat it. Now comes the hard part. You must now jump from the first platform to the second platform, then from the second platform up to the treasure box. It's not really worth the effort, but you can go for it. -If you go into the upper-right passage, you can access a good room to get stuff. First, beat the two Crooks to get mucho cash. Then attack the Shy Guy haaging from the Lakitu. If you defeat four of them, Lakitu will give in and throw a mushroom, which will restore your HP and FP. -The goal is to get out through the lower-right passage. In that room is the best treasure trove in the game. Wipe out the Crooks, then go for the chests. They hold a total of 20 coins and a mushroom restoring your HP and FP. When you hit a chest, a Shy Guy comes down. You can get good experience and coins from them. The best part is, if you go off screen, and come back in, all the chests refill and Shy Guys reappear. Sorry, but the Crooks only reappear when you leave the stage and reenter. -In the last room you'll see Bowser with his Koopa Troop. You can't get it, though, so that's the good thing. -The first order of business is to go up to the house on the hill. Jump on the guy's head to get up there. Go inside, then go upstairs to the 2nd floor, but don't take the treasures. Jump on the switch, and it will create a staircase leading up to the top of the hill. Go outside and talk to the guy, then follow him inside. He'll tell you how to get the hidden treasure in the Forest Maze. His instructions are left, left, straight, right. NOW go take the treasures and he won't mind one bit. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA (to the guy)! -Now, go towards the item shop. Jump up the crates, and onto the chimney. Go down it, and hit the treasure box to get a Flower. Buy new armors and maybe a couple Trueform Pins and maybe a Wake Up Pin, since you already have one of them. -Now, go into the inn. You'll end up watching a little kid (Gaz)pretending that Bowser is kicking Mario's butt. After a while, he notices you, and asks if he is real (say yes), then he'll ask if you want to play with him. You don't have a choice. Gaz will pull out his new Geno doll to play against "Bowser" (Mario). After a while, Geno will shoot his Shooting Star Shot, and Mario gets hit instead of Bowser. While Mario is recovering, he'll have a dream that a small star-like spirit will come down and look at the four dolls. He'll then pick Geno, spin over it, then breathe life into it. Then he'll get adjusted to being in the doll, then walk out. The next morning, Gaz will claim that Geno walked into the forest. He's telling the truth. Follow Geno by leaving Rose Town and entering the Forest Maze. =========================================================================== FOREST MAZE =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #7-12 -Like the Kero Sewers, this can be a hard stage to give a walkthrough for. Bear with me here. This level is HUGE, and the maze area is ANNOYING! -Work you way up through the first couple rooms and enter the tree stump to find a cave. Those mushrooms on the ground are either Mushroom items or an Amanita. The latter get up when you get close, meaning you'll probably go into battle. It's the same throughout the level. -After leaving the cave and moving on, you'll come to a room with 7 tree stumps. Although you only need to go into one to go on, you can go in the others to find hidden treasures and to raise your levels. To leave the room, go into the stump in the far back, and wake up the Wiggler. He'll get so mad he'll throw you back up to the surface and open up a path. Go down that path and enter the stump. Looks like this time that Wiggler is in a DEEP sleep (anyone know Snorlax from Pokemon? That deep of a sleep is what he's in.). Work your way through the next two rooms, past the Amanitas and Rat Funk, to the room with a Save Block. Now comes the tricky part: the maze. First, find the hidden treasure. Remember the left, left, straight, right sequence? Those are TURNING directions. The real directions are up-left, down-left, down-left, up left. Go down the stump to clean out the five chests, then go back to the maze and go down-left until you get back to the Save Block room. Now you must follow Geno to find Bowyer. Just keep following him. At one point he will disappear. Go down-right when that happens. If that doesn't work, go up-right. Soon you will reach Bowyer. After a long sequence, Mario and Mallow will run up to save Geno from Bowyer, one of Smithy's minions. He's the one attacking Rose Town. You need to whoop him, and here's how... =========================================================================== *BOWYER* -Bowyer: "What's with these folks?" HP: 720 Special Defenses: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: N/A This battle is going to be tricky, because normally after two or three attacks, Geno goes down. Geno's Geno Beam does 60 HP damage if fully charged, so use it. Have Mario use his Nok Nok Shell or Jump, and Mallow should use Psychopath every few rounds or heal. Bowyer can put you to sleep, so equip Wake Up Pins. His Static E! and Bolt can really take a toll, especially on Geno, because two Static E!s or Bolts will kill him. Oh yeah, the most important part. He has three blocks in front of him symbolizing the A, Y, and X buttons. After two attack turns, he'll shoot an arrow onto one of them, disabling that button. Every four or five additional turns, he'll disable a different button. For this reason, keep your FP as high as possible if the A button is disabled. If the X button is disabled, and one of your guys is in bad shape, have enough FP so Mallow can use HP Rain on them. This battle will take a while. For beating Bowyer, you get the second Star Piece, a Flower Box, and Geno joins your party. =========================================================================== After you beat him, you'll get the second Star Piece. Geno will explain the Star Road, then offically join your party. Exit the maze now (finally!). =========================================================================== ROSE TOWN =========================================================================== -This is optional, but it's worth saving 50 coins. Go to the inn, and Gaz will be glad that Geno is back. After they explain the Star Road, Gaz will let Geno go with Mario and Mallow. Before they leave, Gaz will give Geno a FREE Finger Shot. You can visit Pipe Vault and Yo'ster Isle now, but they're optional. =========================================================================== PIPE VAULT =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #13-14 -First, enter the stage and go down the pipe. The first room is a revisit of one of Bowser's Castle; jumping over blocks atop lava pits with fireballs jumping up. If you do not wish to go into battle, just jump by when the fireball's done. The second room is not very hard. Just be careful not to be on the stairs when the Thwomp pounds down or you go all the way down. Get on IMMEDIATELY after he pounds. The third room is where you can access two hidden areas. The first one is accessed via the second pipe from the left. This is the one with the Hidden Treasure Boxes. The second one is via the second pipe from the right. You can play the Goomba thumping game (see Mini-Games section). The next room is just a simple jump over a few ledges and a Piranha Plant. The last two rooms are annoying. Those little plants will take away one or more coins per contact. If you have to, go into battle with a Piranha Plant to avoid them. The last room is cake to complete. Just go right, avoiding those plants. =========================================================================== YO'STER ISLE =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOX #15 -After you emerge from the Pipe Vault, save your game, then go through the passage to the main island. There is not much to do here, yet. Jump on Yoshi to go talk to his buddies. Get some cookies from the orange Yoshi on the far right side, near the path to the Pipe Vault, to enter the Mushroom Derby race (see Mini-Games). Once you get through with that, you should advance to Moleville. -If you come back later in the game, you'll see that one of the baby Yoshis have hatched. Feed him Cookies until he's fat and bloated and leaves the nest. After that, accumulate a LOT of Yoshi Cookies and go back and feed him all of them at ONCE. Go save your game, then TRY to go up to the mountain. Before you enter, you'll see Bowser's Koopa Troop, down from 15 to 6! He'll walk away, then you can enter the mines. After you see Ma Mole exit, the mole guys will see you and ask for your help. Help 'em, you can't go on if you don't. Jump on them, then enter the mines. In the first few rooms, you'll go into battle with Sparkys and/or Magmites. You may also end up with Clusters and Bob-Ombs. Your best bet is to use your regular weapons on the Sparkys and Clusters, Thunderbolt on Magmites, and Jump on Bob-Ombs. Beware: If you hit a Cluster, and don't kill it, he'll do Migraine (or is it Psyche!?) and kill someone, unless they block. Good luck. Soon, you'l reach a dead end. See that spring? Jump on it to knock yourself out. Croco and his three Flunkies will steal all of your coins and run away. Follow him around the circle. When they reach dead ends, Croco will use bombs (?!) on the walls. You can catch Croco easily, but you should go after the Flunkies. You'll go into battle with between 3 and 5 of them. If you can defeat at least 1 of them in battle before the rest run away, you'll get a Flower Tab. you can get up to 3. One is hidden behind the spring, one is hidden one room clockwise from the spring, and the other one is one room counterclockwise from the spring. After that, run in a clockwise circle to run right into Croco (he's running counterclockwise). Now it's time to kill him, again... =========================================================================== BOSS: Croco -Croco: "Ooh! I'm good!" HP: 750 Special Defenses: Sleep Weaknesses: Fire Croco is tougher this time around, even with 3 charcters. Since he has improved his defense, Mario's Fire Orb is useless. If you have it, use Super Flame instead (or if you used the Level 30 trick, use Ultra Flame!). You will need to use a couple Maple Syrups and Mid Mushrooms. Once he is below 1/2 energy (375 HP) he'll steal your items. Now you have to go without restoring FP AND you can only use Mallow's HP Rain to heal. If you run out of FP, just hammer away with your weapons. After a while, Croco will give up and give your items and coins back. He'll also give you a Flower Box and a Bambino Bomb. =========================================================================== -After you defeat Croco, pick up the bomb and work your way to Pa Mole. He'll blast a hole in the wall with the bomb, then run back into town. Stay along the lower path and work your way forward until you run into a cart with a Shy Guy. When he crashes, a Frog Coin will come out. You can only do this once. Anyways, get onto the upper path and go to the treasure box. Grab the star, and run forward. If you move, you might be able to get to the Save Block. Go back to the room before the block and hit the chest for 150 coins! Double back to the save block and hit the two chests for a a Flower and a Mushroom. Enter the next room and you'll see the Star Piece. Stay along the side of the room and jump onto the purple guy... =========================================================================== BOSS: Punchinello -Punchinello: "Yee ha! I see we're already famous!" -Micro Bomb: "Small is as small does." -Bob-Omb (see Enemies) -Mezzo Bomb: "Look out!" HP: 1200/30/150 Defenses: Punchinello: Jump, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Micro Bomb: Sleep Mezzo Bomb: Sleep Weaknesses: Punchinello: N/A Micro Bomb: Jump, Fire Mezzo Bomb: Jump, Fire This battle may not look easy, but it is. After one or two turns, he'll call out four Micro Bombs. Use Mallow's Thunderbolt to knock them out. After about 400 HP damage, Punchinello will call four Bob-Ombs. Your best bet is to use Mario's Jump or two Thunderbolts. After about 800 HP daamge, he'll call three Mezzo Bombs. Use Mario's Jump or Super Jump or three Thunderbolts. After 1200 HP (death!), he'll call out a King Bomb. More on that later. While battling him, he'll use Sand Storm, putting Feat on your characters. Use a few Fearless Pins to counteract that. As for the King Bomb, it will blow up, ending the battle. You get the Star Piece, but you get no Exp! (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) =========================================================================== After you get the piece from him, walk up to the next room and talk to Dyna. Get ready for the Mine Ride! See the Mini-Game section to tackle this fun ride. -After landing in the house, walk outside and you'll see three Snifits chasing a beetle. They mention that their leader, Booster, is watching over a "princess from the sky". I think you should get the point. -If you wish, go into the far right house and talk to the mole for the Swap Shop. You can take certain unwanted items here for bombs. Go talk to the mushroom guy to get stuff from his "Miner's Store". The only item available now is a Lucky Jewel for 100 coins. Later, you can buy a Mystery Egg for 200 coins, or a Metal Plate (Frying Pan) for 300 coins. -There is yet another thing to check out here. Enter the house closest to the item shop and talk to the guy inside and buy Fireworks for 500 coins. Now, go to the little girl outside next to this house to get the Shiny Stone. Save it for later. When you do use it, come back when you're done and go into the item shop. Talk to the girl in the back to get a Carbo Cookie. Now talk to the girl in the bucket to the left of the item shop. She'll run off. Jump in the bucket to take a free ride down the Midas River. If you do it again, she'll give you a Frog Coin. The pattern is like that for additional Carbo Cookies. -If you wish, you can go to Melody Bay and play the Mole Mountain Blues (see Mini-Games). If you don't wish to, your next destination should be Booster Pass. =========================================================================== BOOSTER PASS =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #16-17 -This is a short area, but you can get a lot of stuff here. If you wish to get quick experience, battle the Spikesters that Lakitu throws. If you go into battle and there is a Carroboscis and/or a Artichoker, use normal attacks on the Spikesters and Carroboscis and Super Jump on the Artichoker. If you notice, there are "artichokes" around the first area. Two of them are Artichokers in disguise. They are the far right one on the ground and the one to the left of the one below the path to the second room. As stated before, use Super Jump to put a quick end to them. You can also battle the Lakitu, but don't use Thunderbolt, becuase it won't do any good. -In the second room, you'll see four Spikesters in holes. There is a hidden switch in the alcove to the left of the Flower item. If you hit it, you'll cover up the holes, gathering coins for each Spikester that is killed by the holes caving in. You can now go safely to Booster Tower. -If you come back after hitting a switch in Booster Tower, you'll open up a cave in the first room, on the far left side. If you go into it, you'll be on a ledge with a bunch of Spikeys. Stand there for about 10 seconds to go up against the Apprentice, who is dreaming of being Snifit #4. Juse use a couple normal attacks and he's history. You can always come back and battle him again and again. If you go all the way to the other side, you'll reach three treasure boxes, one containing a Kerokero Cola. =========================================================================== BOOSTER TOWER =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #18-21 -As you can see, there is a lot of hidden treasure here, as well as Toadstool (oops, I gave it away). Unfortunately, there is no way in, because the door's locked. What's a plumber to do? Hire an old nemesis, of course. Bowser will knock the door open, free of charge, and (for some odd reason) let you join the Koopa Troop. In other words, Bowser just joined you (?!). -In this tower you will have three chances to battle Booster's Snifits. All are optional. The first one is at the front desk (#1). The second one is shooting out bullets (Blasters) (#3). The third one is if you lose the curtain game (see below) (#1,2,3). Where is #2 hidden in the tower? Can anyone know where it is? Anyways, use Mallow's Snowy attack or an Ice Bomb for an easy win. -If you go into the far door in the first room, you'll see a teetertotter with a Bob-Omb and a treasure box is hovering above. To get it, go up to the fourth room, past the Spookums, and through the middle passage. If you can jump on the end of the teetertotter to launch the Bob-Omb, it will come down and launch you to the treasure box, containing a Masher, a super-charged Hammer for Mario. You won't need a more powerful weapon until Nimbus Land! -In the third room, after Booster introduces himself, go to the far right part of the room to get a Flower Tab. In the fifth room, you'll see a switch. Hit it and you'll open up the hidden passage at Booster Pass. Working your way up past the Spookums, bullets, and the first Save Block, you'll enter a room with the six portraits of Booster's ancestors out of order. The sequence is like this: <--Save Block Room Booster #4 Booster #5 Booster #3 Booster #6 Booster #2 Booster #1 <--Thwomp Room Hit them in order to get the Elder Key, which will open up the door to get Bowser's first weapon, a Chomp. If you pick one out of sequence, you have to go into battle with a Spookum and an Orb User. -In the next room, jump on the end of the teetertotter to launch the Thwomp so he can launch you up to the next room. In the next room, just go up the platforms, while avoiding the parachuting Spookums. The next room is very tough to get by without going into battle. Basically you have three options: Stay along the right edge to get the key to open up the door to a pair of Zoom Shoes, stay along the left edge to get out, or jump around and get everything and risk going into battle with two Fireballs. Just use one regular attack as they only have 10 HP each. After two more rooms, Booster will come on and throw Bob-Ombs at you. Just run out of the room to avoid him. After a couple rooms you'll be in a room with a Save Block. Get all of the treasure, then proceed to the door to the balcony. It'll be locked. Now you will have the chance to play the curtain game (see Mini-Games). Grate Guy can mess up your status, so come with a couple Able Juices just in case. If you can defeat these guys, you will get a Flower Jar and you can advance to Booster Hill. =========================================================================== Once you beat them, you can run up Booster Hill. =========================================================================== BOOSTER HILL =========================================================================== -Like Midas River, this whole stage is a mini-game, so see the Mini-Games section. Save your game, then go talk to anybody outside the chapel. After that, Raz and Raini will be thrown out and a Snifit will mention the door will be locked. Walk up to the door and he'll mention something about a back entrance. Walk along the right wall of the chapela nd you'll find a hidden door. Go in, past the chefs (try jumping on the cake and see what happens!) and to the room with the Snifit. He'll need to go talk to Booster. To help him bust open the door, you must both run towards the door and hit it AT THE SAME TIME. If you can, it will knock the Snifits back. You'll now be in a room with a Save Block. Hit it. Now you must help Bowser knock down the door. Use the same procedure as with the Snifit. Soon enough you'll bust in and Toadstool will lose her gear. Now you must talk to the three Snifits to get the first three items, then jump onto Booster's head to get the Crown, then talk to him. The whole time candles will be lit. If you can get all of the items and talk to Booster with 2 or less candles lit and Toadstool will "reward" you. Do it with 3 or more candles and Booster and/or Bowser will take Toadstool's place. When that's done, Torte and his apprentice will walk in with the cake. Then, you'll go into battle... =========================================================================== BOSS: Bundt -Torte: "Cake! Vatch zee CAKE." -Bundt: "Congratulations." -Raspberry: "Congratulations." HP: 0/900, then 0/600 Defenses: Torte: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Bundt: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep Raspberry: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep Weaknesses: Torte: N/A Bundt: Jump Raspberry: Jump This battle is comprised of three parts. The first part involves you attacking the cake while the two chefs attack you. To deplete its HP quickly, use Super Jump and regular attacks. After a few turns of attacks, the cake will come to life, and the chefs will run away. Now the real battle begins. Bundt will light his five candles. Each regular attack blows one of the candles out. When Bundt is done attacking, he can regain one candle. The battle will get really nasty when Bundt uses attacks like Blizzard, Sand Storm, Drain Beam, Diamond Saw, and Lulla-Bye. After blowing all of his candles out and hitting him one more time, Raspberry will be left. Just use Super Jump to deplete his HP. Beware: He has the same attacks as Bundt. After beating him, Booster will come on and eat it whole. End of battle. You get SQUAT for beating him, except the fact that you finally rescued Toadstool. =========================================================================== After disposing of them, Toadstool will join your party temporarily, until you take her back to Mushroom Kingdom. -If you ever come back, stay in the suite. Depending on how many times you stay in there, you'll get an item. The first stay you'll get a Flower Tab, the third stay you'll get a Flower Jar, and the fifth time you'll get a Frog Coin. If you ever wish to, ring the bell to get items. Buy a Pick Me Up for 10 coins or a Kerokero Cola for 150 coins, then tip him 10 coins. Then go take a shower, and go to sleep. For some fun, stay more than one night. Each additional night will cost you 100 coins. If you don't have enough, you get to be the bellhop. Sometimes you'll get an item like a Flower Jar or Box. It's pretty funny to do, and just may be worth it. =========================================================================== MUSHROOM KINGDOM =========================================================================== -Once you leave Marrymore, you will automatically go back to Mushroom Kingdom, and you CAN'T leave. You're trapped. The only thing to do is to go into Mushroom Kingdom and talk to the Chancellor (again). He will start complaining, then Toadstool will cheer him up. Then we see the sword story AGAIN. After that, we hear AGAIN why each charatcer is with Mario. Can't they come up with a more creative conversation? After the Chancellor finishes (fianlly!) by asking if you will defeat Smithy, go to Toadstool's Room if you want to hear Toadstool yell. Go and find Toadstool's ??? again, and she'll YELL. Anyways, go outside, and Toadstool will come down. She'll ask to join the party, then Mallow will suggest they go talk to Frogfucius to find out where the fourth Star Piece is. =========================================================================== TADPOLE POND =========================================================================== -You MUST come here to advance. Go up and talk to Frogfucius and he'll mention that a star is on Star Hill (what a surprise). And if you already didn't, play the first two songs at Melody Bay. =========================================================================== STAR HILL =========================================================================== -This is a confusing level, as you must search for all of the star flowers to get to the next room. I'll give a walkthrough for each room. ***OPENING ROOM*** Simple enough. Talk to (A button) the left flower to go to Star Hill. Or, talk to the right flower to go to the World Map. ***ROOM #1*** When you start out, you'll be right next to a flower. Talk to it, then go right and talk to the flower, then double back and go all the way left and talk to the third flower. Go up, to the left of the star door, and keep going straight to reach the fourth flower. Go to the right to get the last flower, then go through the star door to go to the next area. ***ROOM #2*** This is the largest room in the level. Go left to reach the first flower, then go to the upper-left corner for another one, then go down to the lower-left corner for a third. From there, go straight right, staying along the boundary to find the fourth one, then check out the lower and upper right corners for the last two, then go into the star door. ***ROOM #3*** Go down from the door to the first flower, then left to the second one, then go to the left of the star door to get another one. Go up from there to reach another one, then go to the upper-left corner for another one. Go right to get the Star Piece, then go to the far right behind the door for the last one, then go through the star door to exit the level. -For added input, here's a list of all 13 wishes available from the 12 faced stars (Don't ask, becuase I'll get to it later.). Go to the shop and get some Bad Mushrooms and a Fire Bomb for later, then go to to the elder's house on the hill. He'll mention something about there a Star Piece that fell into the sea. That's your next stop. =========================================================================== SEA =========================================================================== NOTE: The Shaman has a shop also on the Sunken Ship. Since they are the same shops, I'll just put the listing here. Buy a Hurly Gloves for Bowser and update your armor, then proceed through the lower passage. Staying along the back wall, go left and down to the treasure box. Grab the Super Star and go back and whack those Zeostars. If you can, double back and go to the next room and try to take them out. If you do go into battle, use Thunderbolt on them, and Fire Orb if a Bloober appears. In the second room with Zeostars, go in the passage in the corner near the exit. The treasure boxes contain a flower, Mushroom, and a Frog Coin. Save your game, and keep going. In the room with the one whirlpool, go down it and into the door near the right side. Go up the next whirlpool and hit the treasure box for a Max Mushroom. Now leave the room and go outside. Use one of the whirlpools to go down into the water, jump up the ship, and go down the "pipe" at the top. =========================================================================== SUNKEN SHIP =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOX #23 SHAMAN'S SHOP: Same as Sea -This is a long and puzzling area. First, go into the right door and save your game, thne go into the left door. The Greapers and Dry Bones, as well as other spirits can be disposed of by Thunderbolt or Pure Water. Or, use regular attacks on everyone except Dry Bones. Use regular attacks if you come across an Alley Rat or Gorgon. After a while, you'll be in a two level room with Greapers guarding six doors. Now comes the puzzle part. You want to enter each room and figure out as many puzzles as you can so your can get clues towards a password to continue. Here is a mini-guide to the puzzles: Room #1: A room with a Sky Troopa, a switch, and a column with a cannonball on it. The objective is to get the Sky Troopa to knock the cannonball onto the switch. The Sky Troopa will hover towards you, so lead it in a direction so it bumps the cannonball onto the switch. "There is an 's' in the word." Room #2: A room with three springboards and a switch. The objective is to set up the three springboards to let a cannonball bounce onto the switch. You can set them up by hitting the blocks to stop them. Set the first one near the middle of the light. Set the second one a little further left. Set the last one alomst on the left edge of the shadow. "It is found on the bed of the ocean." Room #3: An enclosed 3-D maze with a switch on top. This is the hardest puzzle in the game. You have to navigate through the maze to get to the top. It involves jumping a lot, too. Once you reach the top (if you can), hit the switch. "It has two vowels." Room #4: A room with many ledges and a moving coin. The objective is to work your way around the room collecting the coins the moving coin drops, IN ORDER before they disappear. If you can grab the coins in order and get the moving one when it stops, you win. "It has four consonants." Room #5: A room with three cannons and four blocks. You must be quicker than the moving coin puzzle for this one. When you hit the first block, a cannonball is shot out of the first cannon. Get under the second block and hit the cannonball so that hits the block to shoot the second cannon. Get that next cannonball to hit the third block to shoot the last cannon. Get the last cannonball to hit the last block to finally solve the puzzle (whew, I need to calm down). "Two consonants are side-by-side." Room #6: A room with a Save Block (not part of the puzzle), a stack of barrels, and two switches. The objective is to have both switches pushed down at the same time. Go over to the barrel stack. You'll notice one of them is darker than the others. Jump on it to knock it down. To roll it, face the opposite direction you want it to roll and jump. In other words, face away from the switches and jump until it hits the first switch. Now simply go over and hit the other switch to solve it. "The R comes before the L." -Now save your game in #6, then enter the next room. Now you must hit the blocks to set the letters for the password. If you haven't figured it out by now, the password is PEARLS. Here is a guide to each block. [] means which letter to set it for. 1st Letter: M C O T [P] 2nd Letter: O T [E] S Y 3rd Letter: [A] R E T S 4th Letter: A T [R] S C 5th Letter: T E R [L] O 6th Letter: [S] T E K R Bingo, instant PEARLS. Now enter the door to face King Calamari... =========================================================================== BOSS: King Calamari -Tentacles (Left): "Keep me in cool!" -Tentacles (Right): "You wouldn't... EAT me?!" -King Calamari: "The ship's MINE! SCRAM!" HP: 260/200/800 Defenses: Tentacles (Left): Sleep, Silence Tentacles (Right): Sleep, Silence King Calamari: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Tentacles (Left): Fire Tentacles (Right): Fire King Calamari: Fire If you have at least three Fire Bombs, you're in GREAT shape right now. If you don't, make sure Mario's learned Super Flame or even ULTRA FLAME! (HAHAHAHAHA) The first part of the battle is against three Tentacles. Simple, use a Fire Bomb to kill them. If you don't have any, use Mario's Fire attacks or regular attacks. The second part of the battle is exactly the same as the first, against three Tentacles. Use the same procedure, but beware. Any of the 8 (?!) Tentacles within this whole battle can send a character away and put them in Fear, EVEN if they're equipped with a Fearless Pin or the Safety Ring. The third part of the battle is when you come face to face with King Calamari, plus two more Tentacles. King Calamari won't attack until you hit it or kill one of the Tentacles, so be careful. To make things easy, use a Fire Bomb to kill the Tentacles and chop off 280 HP from Calamari. After that, it's basically Super Flame and/or regular attacks. He uses attacks like Sand Storm and Drain Beam, so equip Fearless Pins for everyone (except who's wearing the Safety Ring). This battle may look long, but it takes a lot of explaining to describe. Now, I shalt rest my hands for a few seconds before continuing... =========================================================================== After disposing of him, the second half of the level begins. -The second half of the level is actually easier than the first (puzling) half. After leaving the room with the springboard, jump up to the second level and go into the door. You must run past the cannons before bullets shoot out. If one nails you, you'll get knocked down to the lower level and will have to start over. To make it easier, just defeat the Alley Rats and walk across the tops of the cannons. Go into the next room and down the staircase. In this room, you'll see two treasure boxes. More on that later. Go into the next room and meet a clone Mario. This is the room with the hidden treasure box (#23). Exit and you'll find your self on the other side of the previous room. Jump onto the legde with the Dry Bones and make a LONG jump onto the ledge with two treasure boxes. If you don't want them, proceed to the next room and down the stairs. In this room, you'll run into a Save Block and two chests. Hit the left chest for a Mushroom, hit the Save Block, and hit the right box ONLY if you want to battle to get a Safety Badge. If you do, use Super Jump on Hidon and regular or Fire attacks on the Goombettes. If you don't, just keep going. You'll now be in a room with water. You can't go under yet, so go into the next room. Now you can go under. Go back to the previous room and get the Frog Coins, then double back to the other room and go through the door. Go down the seafood (I mean, enemy) infested staircase to the next room. (Only a couple more rooms to go!) -In this room, there is a Frog Coin and a hidden room. Go towards the giant stack of barrels near the center and go behind them from the left side to enter a hidden room. Get the treasure box for a Safety Ring. Equip Mario or Toadstool with it. Now, go back to the normal room, and jump up the right stack of barrels to get above the surface and swim to the far left corner to get the Frog Coin, then exit through the far right door. -You'll see four Bandana Reds guarding a treasure box. You will be forced to enter battle. Use Mallow's Thunderbolt, Geno's Geno Blast, or just regular attacks. After beating them, try to go upstairs and you'll be hit by a barrel, but Mario will dodge it. NOW go upstairs and go into battle, this time with FIVE Reds. Just use the same technique. Before going into Johnny's room, go back down and hit that treasure box for a Mushroom, then go back up and through the door to battle Johnny... =========================================================================== BOSS: Johnny -Bandana Blue (x4): (see Enemies) -Johnny: "Whoa! It's all over." HP: 820 Special Defenses: Sleep Weaknesses: N/A This is a VERY easy battle if you have a couple Bad Mushrooms and a Fire Bomb or Mallow. To start out with, use a Fire Bomb, Mario's Fire attacks, or Mallow's Thunderbolt to take out the Bandana Blues, then use a Bad Mushroom on Johnny. Keep pelting him with regular attacks until he does Toughen Up!, a variation of Valor Up!. After you chop off half his HP, Johnny will challenge Mario to a one-on-one, winner-takes-all. If Mario dies, the game is over. So, equip the Safety Ring to dodge Mega Drain and have maybe a Red Essence and/or a couple Mid Mushrooms. Oh yeah, almost forgot. If your Bad Mushroom wears off, use another one. It helps out a whole bunch. After a while, Johnny gives up and gives you the Star Piece. =========================================================================== -After beating Johnny, use the trampoline to go to the World Map, then go back to Seaside Town. =========================================================================== SEASIDE TOWN =========================================================================== -The moment you enter, Yaridovich (I mean the elder, I just gave it away) will demand the Star Piece. If you refuse, he'll torture the REAL elder until you give it up. Just give it to him the first time he asks. Now, save your game and follow him to the shore. He'll get ready to swim away, then Johnny comes up and blocks them. Since he's trapped, Yaridovich suggests that him and his "posse" turn into the REAL Yaridovich. That means you're going into battle... =========================================================================== BOSS: Yaridovich -Yaridovich: "My promotion's at stake!" -Yaridovich (Clone): "I'm not the real McCoy!" HP: 1500/500 Defenses: Yaridovich: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Yaridovich (Clone): Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Yaridovich: Thunder Yaridovich (Clone): Thunder You should have Mallow in your party, as well as Toadstool. Try using Thunderbolt or Shocker on Yaridovich, as well as regular attacks and Therapy or Group Hug just in case your HP is low. He will do Water Blast, which Safety Ring cannot defend against, so good luck. After a while, he'll split up in two. They will then do attacks like Meteor Blast and Flame Stone, so heal often. After a while, Yaridovich is history. You'll get the fifth Star Piece back, as well as a Shed Key to free the citizens of Seaside Town. =========================================================================== -After you eliminate him and get the Star Piece back, pick up the key and open up the building locked up eariler. The townsfolk will be glad to be free, and the elder will give you an item depending on how many times you refused to give up the piece. If you gave it up immediately, he'll give you a Flower Box. As the number of refusals go up, the value of the item goes down, probably all the way down to nil. When you come back here with beetles from Booster Hill, you get 1 coin for a male (smaller) beetle, 50 coins for a female (bigger) beetle, or 1 frog coin for a golden (rare) beetle. This is a waste of money, unless you're really good at Booster Hill. -The other shop is the Mushroom Boy's Shop (middle door in right complex). If you bring Mushrooms here from the Forest Maze, you can get special items for them being "special mushrooms". That should be your next stop. =========================================================================== LAND'S END =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #24-27 -This is a pretty interesting area. The only way to get across the cliffs are cannons, floating platforms, and spinning flowers. Wherever you have a cannon, where the cannon is pointing tells where it will shoot or how far it will shoot. -After passing the Save Block, use the first cannon to shoot to the platform. In the second room, stand up-right from the cannon and jump to find a hidden platform. Shoot to the platform, then jump down the hole and defeat the three Chows. The third room is a guaranteed battle room. Four pairs of Geckits are shot up to platforms one at a time. When one walks off, the other is shot on. You will almost definitely go into battle here. If you ever fall down to the lower level, shoot back up with the far-left cannon, the only one not controlled by Geckits. The next room leaves you with a choice: Should you continue through Land's End, or go to the hidden cave to find a special item? This path leads you to the cave first, then back to the normal area. -Take the far right path to the lower level of a room with a donut bridge. You'll see a cave near the left side. Enter the cave. This is a two room cave littered with treasure and enemies. It's very straightforward, though. When you're near the end, you'll need to jump on a barrel to make it drop if you wish to return to Land's End. Hit the treasure box for a Mushroom, then jump onto the springboard. =========================================================================== KERO SEWERS =========================================================================== -You'll find yourself atop the pipe above the second Save Block, one room away from Belome's room. Jump onto the ledges and go left to reach the treasure box, containing some Cricket Jam. Now, go back to the pipe to return to Land's End. =========================================================================== LAND'S END =========================================================================== -Now, return all the way back to the room with the second Save Block. Now, dodging the Stingers, use the spinning flowers to get up the hill. In the next room, you'll be able to attempt the Sky Bridge (see Mini-Games). After that, you'll be able to enter the desert. In the first desert room, take the left path or whirlpool to reach a room with Shy Aways or the right path or whirlpool to reach a room with Stingers. Either way, you'll need to follow the Shoguns to get out. How? Walk up to the whirlpool that a Shogun is in. When it goes back down, enter that whirlpool to advance to the next room. If you go in the wrong one, you'll go back one room. You will have to do this four times to exit the desert. -Hit the Save Block, then hit the treasure box to get a Super Star. If you have 400 coins, you can buy a Super Star. If you don't, you'll never get the chance to buy one. If you do buy it, get it and whack every Geckit. Now you can continue. =========================================================================== BELOME'S TEMPLE =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #28-29 -When you see the Shaman on the springboard, don't worry about it, because you don't need to go back up to the surface. The next room will tell how your temple travel will be. Hit the treasure box for 50 coins, then talk to the Shaman. He'll tell your fortune for 50 coins. After he disappears, you'll need to hit the statues in any order to continue. Want to know what will happen with each combo? Here's a list: Left/Center/Right: Yoshi Cookie (50%) or Mushroom (50%) Left/Right/Center: Yoshi Cookie (100%) Center/Left/Right: 3 Chows Center/Right/Left: 3 Chows (varies) or 1 Shy Away (varies) Right/Left/Center: 100 coins (66 2/3%) or 1 Frog Coin (33 1/3%) Right/Center/Left: 100 coins (100%) -After hitting the statues and getting your fortune, jump up the brick pile and to the next room. Go down the pipe, and fulfill your fortune. After that, enter the next room. There are four treasure boxes in this room, two of which are invisible. In the room after this, you'll find ANOTHER statue. This one will decide whether you go to Belome or not. If you get "Mmm, I'm so hungry! Wish I had something to eat!", you'll get to battle Belome. If you get "Sorry, I'm not accepting visitors past my bedtime.", you'll go to the temple vault. If you don't get the fortune you want, exit the room, and come back and try again. Once you get the desired fortune (right now it's Belome), go down the elevator and go into the next room. Their clones can cause MAJOR trouble! For an easy time, use Mallow and Toadstool. The way the cloning system works is Belome will clone one of the people who attacked him during the last attack turn. If everyone goes into defense, he may clone, or he'll do Light Beam or Aurora Flash, two potent sleep attacks. He can only have two clones at a time. Once he has two clones out, just whack Belome with Thunderbolt/Shocker and regular attacks until he goes away, then take out the clones with regular attacks. Toadstool's clone can do Recover and/or Mega Recover, so take out Belome QUICKLY! A couple Wake Up Pins don't hurt, either. =========================================================================== After that, hit the switch to open the door. There are many battles you can enter here. Since they are all optional, I put them in the Mini-Games section, under Monstro Town Battles. Now, enter the second door from the left. Talk to the Thwomp seven times so he drops the key from the "roof" above him. After that, go into the far left door and talk to the keeper. She'll tell you to go upstairs and talk to the star. After doing that, go down and talk to her again. She'll call the Sky Troopa Squad to help you get up the cliff at Land's End. Now, it's time to backtrack. =========================================================================== BELOME'S TEMPLE =========================================================================== -If you got the key, work your way to the single statue, in the elevator room. Get the non-Belome fortune to go to the vault. Give Belome the key to access the items. You can get a Max Mushroom, Royal Syrup, Fire Bomb, eight Frog Coins, and four Flowers. After that, backtrack all the way out of the temple. =========================================================================== LAND'S END =========================================================================== -The first room after leaving the temple will be the Geckit room. Go back and talk to the Shaman again, if you bought the star last time. This time, he'll give you a star for 800 (?!) coins. If you have 800 coins, buy another star. If you don't, go back into the temple. =========================================================================== BELOME'S TEMPLE =========================================================================== -Remember the springboard in the first room? Use it to return to the last room of the desert. =========================================================================== LAND'S END =========================================================================== -Go into the passage in the upper corner and you'll be at the cliff. The Troopas will set themselves up. Sergeant Flutter, the leader, will tell you that you need to jump up the shells to get up to the top. See the Mini-Games section to figure this out. After reaching the top, you can go to Bean Valley. =========================================================================== BEAN VALLEY =========================================================================== HIDDEN TREASURE BOXES #31-33 -This level can be mighty tricky. The first part is a mini-maze of pipes. Here's how it works: 1st Room: The left pipe leads to a dead-end, the right pipe leads to the next room. 2nd Room: The left pipe leads to the next room, the right pipe leads to the previous room. 3rd Room: The lower pipe leads to room with a treasure box, the upper pipe leads to the previous room. Once in the 3rd room, go to the next room. You'll now be in a room with 5 pipes. A Shy Away will fly around and water the small sprouts into Piranha Plants. Step on a watered one and you'll go into battle with either 2 Chewys or 2 Chewys, 2 Geckits, and a Kriffid. Here is a diagram showing the numbers that will signal the pipes in this walkthrough: 1 2 5 3 4 Pipe #1: A room with three Geckits and a Chomp Chomp. Defeat the Chomp Chomp at the end, then jump where it was three times to reveal a platform. Go to the passage to gain access to Grate Guy's Casino (see Mini-Games). Pipe #2: A room with one treasure box. It will activate a slot machine. Pipe #5: A LARGE room with a treasure box, a hidden one, two Geckits, and two springboards. Hit the treasure box to go into an automatic battle with Box Boy. Jump on the higher spring to reach an area with another treasure box. -Once you've conquered the five pipes, go into the next room and jump onto the watered Piranha Plant to go into battle... =========================================================================== BOSS: Megasmilax -Smilax (x8): "Turn your eyes!" -Megasmilax: "I was a water baby!" HP: 200/1000 Defenses: Smliax: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Megasmilax: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Smilax: Ice Megasmilax: Ice Bring along at least three Ice Bombs. When Shy Away makes one Smilax appear, use two regular attacks to kill it. When two Smilaxes appear, use an Ice Bomb to get rid of them. When three Smilaxes appear, use another Ice Bomb. When two Smilaxes and Megasmilax appear, use an Ice Bomb to kill the Smilaxes and do 280 HP to Megasmilax. Have Trueform Pins equipped because he will do Petal Blast immediately. I like using Mario and Toadstool's regular attacks combined with Mallow's Snowy attack. He'll be gone in no time. =========================================================================== After winning, go up to the note and pick up the Seed, then go down the pipe. Hit the block to make a vine grow (as classic as Mario can get!), then jump to climb up it. -The next few rooms involves a series of jumps across vines leading upwards. You might want to go into battle with some of thos Birdys, because they may create valuable platforms. Here's a guide to the area: 1st Room: Very easy. All you need to do is jump up the vines, with no problem. 2nd Room: Hard. Climb up the leftmost vine to get the treasure box, then jump from that vine to the middle vine. Now comes the tricky part. Do you want to go left or right? Right is easier, but left will get you a Rare Scarf if you conquer it. 3rd Room (left): Harder. Jump on the middle vine, then onto the right vine. Battle the Birdy near the top to make a platform appear. You'll need that platform to get onto the left vine. Once you get to the top, you can go to the two treasure boxes, one with a Rare Scarf. Now, go down the hole right near the boxes. Jump on the springboard at the bottom, then go to the left springboard to go to Nimbus Land. 3rd Room (right): Easy. This one is a little harder than the first room, but still easy. The first call of business is watching a presentation. "Queen" Valentina is introducing Prince "Mallow" (?!), then mentioning that the Prince wants Valentina to be his queen. Plus, she mentions the King and Queen are deathly sick. It almost sounds real. -After the presentation, go into the item shop and update your weapons and armor. Now, go save your game in the inn, then go to the house to the left of the castle. Walk up to the statue that looks like Mallow and Mallow will say it looks like him. The sculptor, Garro, will mention that looks like King Nimbus when he was a kid. Wait a minute, you can figure out the rest if you've payed attention. Anyways, Garro will come up with a plan to sneak Mario in. It took two lies (Mariotta [?!] and "A Plumber's Lament") to get by the guards and Valentina herself. After Dodo ("Prince Mallow" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) sets you in. Go into the previous room to save your game, then try to go through the door. Valentina will mention something about Dodo needs to polish the statues. Instead, he'll take out his frustration by pecking each statue. You'll need to jump when he tries to peck you. He will try many sneaky ways to catch you offguard. You're smarter than that, aren't you? If you get caught (pecked) too many times, you'll battle Dodo (use regular attacks). If you don't, you'll get a Feather. "BUG!" BTW, I noticed a bug here. When Dodo goes back to Valentina afer he pecks you a few times, she'll say "Give it a good peck." I thought she wanted Dodo to polish them, NOT peck them. That's a bug worth noting. "BUG!" -If you can survive the pecking, save your game, then explore the rest of the castle. Only one real thing is needed to be explained unti you reach the hallway with three doors: If you talked to the Pinwheel in Monstro Town, you can set the speed for them to be blowing in Nimbus Land. Set it low so you can get by. If you set it high, you'll need to find alternate routes. -Once you reach the hallway with three doors, you'll need a key to continue. Go in the left door, then through the next two rooms to the Jawful. Defeat it, then go into the next room. The people are worth talking to. One will give you a Flower Jar. Another one will give you a Castle Key #1. Now you can go through. Go back to the hallway with three doors, defeat the Heavy Troopa blocking the middle door, then use the key to go in. Shy Away will be in there, watering an egg, then will try to run away. Guess what? The door's locked! To get the key, talk to the egg. You'll go into battle... =========================================================================== BOSS: Birdo -Shelly: "Slow down!" -Birdo: "I just love life!" -Eggbert: Don't know HP: 500/777/10 Defenses: Shelly: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Birdo: Fire, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Eggbert: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Shelly: N/A Birdo: N/A Eggbert: N/A First, you need to destroy the shell. It will not attack you. After cracking it, Birdo will appear (anyone remember SMB2?). It will do two attacks. It will shoot three eggs, or one more powerful egg. For a fun time, go into defense mode. If Birdo shoots one egg at you while you're in defense mode, it'll bounce off and land on Birdo's nest. Wait until four have appeared there, then do a Geno Blast or Flash to damage Birdo and blow up the eggs. Each egg will do 80 HP damage to Birdo. After he's history, you'll get Castle Key #2 and you can proceed through the rest of the castle. =========================================================================== Once you get the key, go into the next room. Defeat the Jawful, and enter the next room. Try to open the door with the note next to it. Since it's locked, Bowser will volunteer to knock it down. Of course, Mallow will prevent him, just because his parents might really be sick. Then Bowser will yell at Mario, then come back. At this point, Shy Away will come in, then go on and warn Valentina. Follow him into the next room. Defeat the Heavy Troopa, then enter the throne room. Valentina will get mad because the REAL prince is back. Then, the trio will fly the coup. Follow them. -The next couple rooms are littered with Bluebirds. For fun, try to dodge them. Make your way to the treasure box. Jump below the treasure box to find a platform. Jump on the platform to get the box for a Super Star. Use it to take out Dodo in the next room. If you can't, the battle is just like the previous one. After busting by him, run outside and you'll fall down, much like you did after you got the Rare Scarf. Now, get the party you want (Mario, Geno, and Toadstool), and reenter Nimbus Land. Now Valentina is in a bad position. Since Mario wants to help Mallow save his parents, he'll go into battle with Valentina... =========================================================================== BOSS: Valentina -Valentina: "I tell ya, he's NOTHING!" -Dodo: "I'm starved... later!" HP: 2000/800 Defenses: Valentina: Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Dodo: Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Valentina: N/A Dodo: Fire This battle has three parts to it. First, Dodo will take the middle character for a 1 on 1. Put Geno or Bowser there. He will use Multistrike or Flutter Hush, which are very annoying, so use a timed Geno Boost or a Red Essence. If you have a Fire Bomb, use it. After knocking him down to size, he'll fly away and the character will follow. The second part involves Mario and Toadstool battling Valentina. Keep hitting her with regular attacks until Dodo and your middle character come back. Now the final part begins. Although you can kill Dodo, just ignore him. Keep pounding Valentina with regular attacks. Beware, becasue she'll use attacks like Diamond Saw, Solidify, Blizzard, and Drain Beam, which will take a lot of HP off. Just be lucky and you will survive with minimal damage. =========================================================================== -After beating her and getting yet another key, Mallow will go in. As Mario pulls out an umbrella, Mallow will start crying (you know what happens if he does that). When you go inside and talk to the Nimbuses, King Nimbus will ask for EVERYONE'S autograph (HAHAHAHAHA)! Ignore that. Anyways, they'll mention that a Star Piece fell into the nearby Barrel Volcano. I wonder where you'll go next. -Before continuing, go to the room where the King and Queen were trapped and talk to the guy that gave you a Castle Key #1. He'll give you a Flower Jar. Now, leave the castle and go into the far right house. Talk to Croco, and he'll run away, dropping a Signal Ring. Then, walk outside and go along the exterior of the town until you find an invisible passageway. Talk to the Shy Away to get Fertilizer. Now, go into the hole you entered from. Exit via the right springboard. =========================================================================== ROSE TOWN =========================================================================== -Once you enter Rose Town, go towards the item shop and look for a passage on the right side of town. Enter the passage. You'll find a house, which is the house of the gardener. Go inside, and give him the Seed and Fertilizer. A beanstalk will grow. Climb up it to get the Lazy Shell weapon and armor. Give the weapon to Mario, and the armor to Toadstool. She won't need another armor for the rest of the game. =========================================================================== NIMBUS LAND =========================================================================== -Once you're back at the room with two springboards and two holes, go down the right hole. Talk to the guards and they'll let you through. Jump in the springs to restore your HP and FP, then go through the right passage to drop down into the volcano. =========================================================================== BARREL VOLCANO =========================================================================== HINO MART: ITEM SHOP (left counter): _____________________ |Mid Mushroom|20 coins| |Maple Syrup |30 coins| |Pick Me Up | 5 coins| |Able Juice | 4 coins| |Freshen Up |50 coins| INN (middle counter): 30 coins ARMOR SHOP (right counter): ___________________ |Fire Shirt|90 coins| |Fire Pants|90 coins| |Fire Cape |90 coins| |Fire Shell|90 coins| |Fire Dress|90 coins| -Another very long area to complete. This volcano is full of lava and enemies. Since this is a volcano, use Ice attacks on everyone (Snowy or Ice Bomb). Geno's attacks also work well. -In the first few rooms you will battle Magmuses, Armored Ants, Vomers, and maybe Chained Kongs. Since Vomers are relatives of Dry Bones, you need to use a magic attack to destroy them. Use Thunderbolt for a quick victory. But first, you might want to find a hidden room with two Flowers. To find it, go into the second room, you'll see small platforms in the lava. Jump across them to the passage on the other side of the lava. Go in and hit the treasure boxes to get the Flowers. -In the 6th room, you'll most likely go into battle with a Corkpedite. Take out the body first, because if the body is left alone, it'll probably do an instant- death attack. In the 8th room, you'll see a Frog Coin in the lava. Just jump to it. In the 9th room, you'll see a Frog Coin above the path to the 10th room. Go into the 10th room, then back to the 9th. Jump onto the lava and you'll be thrown onto the ledge with the coin. In the 10th room there are two of them. Jump up the donut ledges to get each one. In the 11th room you'll see a Stumpet on the 2nd floor. You'll need to go into the 12th room (the one with the first Save Block), then up and through the passage to get up there. Just use Snowy and/or regular attacks. Ok, I know I've lost you, so I'll go a little easier on the walkthrough. Anyways, two rooms from the Stumpet, you'll come across another Corkpedite. Then, in the next room, you'll come across another Stumpet. Just take care of them the way you did previously. After that, go into the next room and up the steps to reach the Hino Mart. My suggestion is to update your armor, buy some items, and take a snooze. -Go into the next room, save your game, then go to the room after that. You'll need to be quick and careful to cross the bridge across the lava. If you make it to the other side, go into the next room to battle the Czar Dragon... =========================================================================== BOSS: Czar Dragon -Czar Dragon: "Flamin' hot, right at ya!" -Zombone: "Hey! We're not done yet!" HP: 1400/1800 Defenses: Czar Dragon: Fire, Sleep Zombone: Fire, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep Weaknesses: Czar Dragon: Ice Zombone: Jump, Thunder For this battle, the definite party is Mario, Mallow, and Toadstool. Be equipped with Wake Up Pins, because he may put you to sleep. He may also do Fear attacks, so have Toadstool heal often. Once in a while, he'll call out four little fireballs. Use an attack like Thunderbolt or Snowy to get rid of them. Use regular attacks or Ice Bombs until he goes away. But, his "skeleton", Zombone, will appear. He has Storm and Blast, which are two very potent attacks. He will also do Boulder, which will harm all of your party. Use regular attacks, Thunderbolt/Shocker, and Pure Water if you have any. After Zombone is history, the battle is over. =========================================================================== After beating him, cross the lava and enter the next room. You'll see the sixth Star Piece. But, it'll be swiped away, by the Axem Rangers. Somebody finally decided to imitate the Power Rangers! Anyways, when they're done introducing themseles, go to the next room. When they're done talking again, you must chase them to the top of the volcano. When you reach the top, jump on the springboard. You'll be on the top of the volcano. When Blade appears, they'll jump on, and so will Mario. That means battle time... =========================================================================== BOSS: Axem Rangers -Axem Pink: "Red, WRONG POSITION!" -Axem Black: "Your timing stinks!" -Axem Red: "I'm all thumbs today!" -Axem Yellow: "We're lookin' GOOD!" -Axem Green: "Are we done yet?" -Axem Rangers: "It's a melee!" HP: 400/550/800/600/450/999 Defenses: Axem Pink: Ice, Sleep, Silence Axem Black: Fear, Sleep Axem Red: Fire, Fear, Sleep Axem Yellow: Thunder, Poison, Sleep Axem Green: Sleep, Silence Axem Rangers: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Axem Pink: Fire Axem Black: Thunder Axem Red: Ice Axem Yellow: Jump Axem Green: Ice Axem Rangers: Thunder Another case of a 5 against 3, this time against a insult of the Power Rangers. You want to use Mario, Mallow, and Toadstool for this battle. Definitely, the first one to take out is Axem Pink, because she uses Recover and Mega Recover. Use Super Flame and/or regular attacks to get rid of her. The next one is Axem Black, because of his nasty bomb attacks. Use Shocker and/or regular attacks to put an end to him. Next you should remove Axem Yellow. Use Super Jump and/or regular attacks. The final two targets are Axem Red and Green. Use Snowy and/or regular attacks to remove them. Once all five are defeated, Red will retreat to Axem Rangers. Every two turns, it will perform Breaker Beam, knocking about 100 HP off of charcters not protected by the Lazy Shell. Just keep attacking with regular attacks and healing and this battle will be over in no time. =========================================================================== After that's done, and you have the Star Piece, go back to Nimbus Land. =========================================================================== NIMBUS LAND =========================================================================== -After exiting the volcano, return to Nimbus Land, and proceed to the throne room. After hearing of you getting the Star Piece, they'll mention that the last one has to be in Bowser's Keep. Of course, we all know there's no way in. So, they will let you ride the Royal Bus to the entrance. So, exit the castle, and go through the passage to the left of Garro's house. Talk to the man and he'll call the Royal Bus. Jump on the Royal Bus and you'll go to Bowser's Keep. =========================================================================== VISTA HILL =========================================================================== -In this cutscene, we see Toad with some other characters looking on to Bowser's Keep. Then, they see the bus go to the door, and Mario going in. Then, they start cheering. =========================================================================== BOWSER'S KEEP =========================================================================== -This is the last place you'd want to return to as Mario, but you need to. For an easy trip through the castle, put Bowser in your party. Most of the enemies will run away when they see him. If Bowser isn't in your party, some of the enemies may get confused and either lose an attack turn of attack themselves! -In the third room, you can see that the small wooden bridge from the beginning has been replaced with three donut ledges. Jump quickly, so you can get to the door. In Bowser's grand hallway, Gu Goombas and Malakoopas run amok. Go into battle and you may run into a group like 2 Malakoopas, 2 Gu Goombas, and 2 Terra Cottas. Use a Geno Blast or Flash to get rid of them. After that room, you'll be in a darkened room littered with Gu Goobmas and a Malakoopa. You may run into a Forkies here or anywhere in the castle. Keep them entranced until the other enemies are gone, then use regular attacks to finish them off. After that room, you'll be in a room with Croco and a Save Block. Buy some items from Croco, save your game, then enter the door to start the Six Door challenge. Since it is like a mini-game, there will be a full guide available in that section. After completing the doors, you'll be at another Save Block. Save, then go into the next room to battle Magikoopa... =========================================================================== BOSS: Magikoopa -Magikoopa: "That's... my child?" -King Bomb: "I LIVE to explode!" -Bahamutt: (see Enemies) -Jinx Clone: ??? HP: 1600/500/??? Defenses: Magikoopa: Poison, Sleep, Silence King Bomb: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Jinx Clone: ??? Weaknesses: Magikoopa: N/A King Bomb: Jump, Fire Jinx Clone: ??? NOTE: I'm not sure about the Jinx Clone's stats. Magikoopa is REALLY easy, yet kind of hard. Each normal attack does almost 200 HP damage to him. Watch out for his magic, because it can do at least 50 HP damage to your party. Have Toadstool just in case you run low on HP. Sometimes, he'll drop an egg and use his magic to grow some protection. It will be either a Jinx Clone, King Bomb, ot Bahamutt. If you can hang on, Magikoopa is history. =========================================================================== -After beating him, he'll create a treasure box that never runs out of coins. He will also offer to refill your HP and FP. Behind him is two doors. Enter the LEFT door to visit Croco (he made it through the six doors THAT FAST?!). Update your armor, then go back to the Magikoopa room and take the right door. You'll be in a room with a few small Thwomps and a HUGE one. There will also be bullets. Touch a bullet and you'll go into battle with at least one Big Bertha. Use Thunderbolt/Shocker to get rid of them. In his red state, he will concentrate on normal attacks, so use magic to drop his HP. Watch out, because he might do Shaker, which will kill you if you don't block. In his blue state, he will concentrate on magic, so use regular attacks. He will do attacks like Blizzard, Diamond Saw, Storm, and Blast, so heal often. This shouldn't be too hard to win. =========================================================================== After beating Boomer, you get to battle the giant sword... =========================================================================== BOSS: Exor -Exor: "Gotta mow the lawn soon." -Left Eye: "I can't see a thing!" -Right Eye: "I've got an astigmatism!" -Neosquid: "I'm so utterly alone..." HP: 1800/300/500/800 Defenses: Exor: Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Left Eye: Thunder, Sleep Right Eye: Thunder, Sleep Neosquid: Sleep Weaknesses: Exor: N/A Left Eye: Jump, Fire Right Eye: Jump, Fire Neosquid: N/A You cannot actually attack the Exor part until you have disabled at least one of the eyes. You better have Toadstool because you will need to heal every turn due to the many attacks from the eyes and multi-charcter attacks from Neosquid (the mouth). Once you have disabled at least one of the eyes, you can attack Exor. For an easy time, have Geno use his Geno Blast or Flash to try to disable both eyes and Neosquid, because if they are all disabled, you can't be attacked, leaving Exor just there to be attacked. Once you've depleted its 1800 HP, the battle is over. =========================================================================== After beating the sword, you'll be sucked into the gate to the Smithy Factory. Use the springboard and take care of any business you need to in the rest of the worlds before you go on and finish the game. =========================================================================== MUSHROOM KINGDOM =========================================================================== -You could've done this after beating Yaridovich. Enter the inn and talk to the kid playing a Game Boy. Talk to him enough times and he'll sell it to you for 500 coins. If you do buy it, play it to your heart's desire, then reset the game (don't save!). See Mini-Games section for a description. =========================================================================== GATE/SMITHY FACTORY =========================================================================== -Once you enter here, the only way back is to backtrack all the way to the beginning of the area. Odds are if you've played SMB3, you'll recognize the spinning screws from the airships. There are plenty in the first few rooms, leading up to the first boss. In the first few rooms, you will probably go into battle with Glum Reapers and/or Ameboids. Just use regular attacks to get rid of them. In the room after the second Save Block, there will be a treasure box with an Ultra Hammer. If you have the Lazy Shell, it will decrease your attack by 20 if you equip it. If you don't have the Lazy Shell, it's the next best thing. After crossing the screw bridge and going up to the springboard, prepare your party for the first boss, a giant clock named Count Down... =========================================================================== BOSS: Count Down -Count Down: "We're into overtime!" -Ding-A-Ling (x2): "Wake up sleepy heads!" HP: 2400/1200 Defenses: Count Down: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Ding-A-Ling: Fear, Poison, Silence Weaknesses: Count Down: Jump, Thunder Ding-A-Ling: Ice The first boss battle in the Smithy Factory can be mighty tricky. Count Down runs on a time system. Whenever the clock reaches a certain "time", he will do an attack. They include Corona, Aurora Beam, Water Blast, Recover, and Mega Recover. On the other hand, the Ding-A-Lings' attacks are random. They include Dark Star and Fear Roulette (instant death). For an easier time, have Mario use Ultra Jump, while Geno and Toadstool heal or attack. If you want an easier battle, take out Count Down first to prevent Recover and nasty special attacks. If you want a LOT more experience, delete the Ding-A-Lings first. =========================================================================== -After beating him, and saving your game, you'll be in the next section. Go into the next room and you'll meet the first of many Machine Made enemies, resembling Smithy's minions you have already deleted. They are just like their normal counterparts, except the HP and stat levels are either higher or lower. -Basically, the rest of the way to the next boss is a series of conveyor belts, platforms, and Machine Made bosses. Once you reach the room with the Machine Made Yaridoviches, jump on the brick to battle one. After winning, the brick will blow up, allowing you access to battle Cloaker and Domino... =========================================================================== BOSS: Cloaker and Domino -Cloaker: "I can't think straight!" -Cloaker (on Earthlink): ??? -Domino: "MAGIC! Deal with it!" -Domino (on Mad Adder): ??? -Earthlink: "What a royal pain!" -Mad Adder: "I'm alive and kicking." HP: 1200/1200/900/900/2500/1500 Defenses: Cloaker: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Cloaker (on Earthlink): Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Domino: Sleep, Silence Domino (on Mad Adder): Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Earthlink: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Mad Adder: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Cloaker: N/A Cloaker (on Earthlink): N/A Domino: Thunder Domino (on Mad Adder): N/A Earthlink: N/A Mad Adder: N/A This is a two part battle, and the first part tells what the second part will be. You'll start by battling both Cloaker and Domino. Use regular attacks on whichever one you choose to kill first (go for Domino). The second half is like this: -If you killed Cloaker first, Domino will run away to a giant snake called Mad Adder. Not only will you deal with Domino's magic, Mad Adder will also do attacks like Water Blast, Sand Storm, and Boulder. Just focus all of your regular attacks on Mad Adder. He should go down quickly. -If you killed Domino first, Cloaker will run away to a giant snake called Earthlink. Not only will you deal with Cloaker's regular attacks, Earthlink will use his regular attack, as well as Poison and Carni-Kiss. Use Mario's Super Jump and Geno's Geno Beam, Blast, or Flash on Earthlink until he bites the dust. -I'm not sure about what happens if you kill Cloaker and Domino at the same time. If anyone finds out, e-mail me, because I would like to know. =========================================================================== After beating them, go into the next room to enter the Factory. Going forward, go ahead and fire the Clerk... =========================================================================== BOSS: Clerk -Clerk: "10 years I've been here." -Mad Mallet: (see Enemies) HP: 500 Defenses: N/A Weaknesses: N/A This is the first of four "employees" of Smithy you will face before you reach the big man. He will send out 2 Mad Mallets to help him. Use Mario, Geno, and Toadstool for this battle. Have Mario and Toadstool use regular attacks on the Clerk, while Geno uses his Geno Blast or Flash to take out the Mad Mallets. The Mad Mallets will reappear sometimes, though. =========================================================================== After watching Mallow get stuck in the crane and getting a free Rock Candy from Toad, go forward and fire the Manager and Director... =========================================================================== BOSS: Manager -Manager: "25 years of working, sigh." -Pounder: (see Enemies) HP: 800 Defenses: N/A Weaknesses: N/A The second employee, he has improved attacks over the recently fired Clerk. Besides calling out 3 Pounders, he will do Valor Up and Spritz Bomb. Use the same technique as with the Clerk, but remember they have improved defense over the Clerk and Mad Mallets. =========================================================================== BOSS: Director -Director: "I just lost EVERYTHING." -Poundette: (see Enemies) HP: 1000 Defenses: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Thunder Now these battles get tough. As well as calling out hammers (this time 4 Poundettes) and having Valor Up and Spritz Bomb, he also does Vigor Up, raising his attack. Don't ignore the Poundettes, because their hammer throws can put Fear on one of your allies. This time, bring in Mario, Mallow, and Toadstool. Have Mario and Toadstool regular attack the Director while Mallow uses Thunderbolt on everybody or Shocker if the Director is just there. If you can survive this, you're in good shape. =========================================================================== Save your game, then go up and fire the Factory Chief... =========================================================================== BOSS: Factory Chief and Gunyolk -Factory Chief: "Who DARES to fight ME?!" -Gun Yolk: "If we're beaten, the boss is alone!" HP: 1000/1500 Defenses: Factory Chief: Thunder Gun Yolk: Fire Weaknesses: Factory Chief: N/A Gun Yolk: Ice Bring in Mario, Mallow/Geno, and Toadstool for this battle. If you chose Mallow, use Snowy. If you chose Geno, use Geno Blast or Flash. As usual, have Mario and Toadstool use regular attacks and heal. Beware, because every two turns, Gun Yolk will use Breaker Beam, taking off almost 100 HP on allies unprotected with the Lazy Shell. He will do either Mega Drain, Echofinder, or a regular attack on his other turn. Factory Chief will do his regular attacks, as well as Thornet and Funguspike. If you defeat this duo, you'll be left with only Smithy to beat. =========================================================================== Go back and save, then come back and jump on the switch to be escorted to Smithy... =========================================================================== BOSS: Smithy ---PART 1--- -Smithy: "Eh? Not bad!" -Smelter: "I brush after each meal!" -Shyper: ??? HP: 2000/1500/400 Defenses: Smithy: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Smelter: Fire, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Shyper: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Smithy: N/A Smelter: Thunder Shyper: N/A Have your HP as high as possible when you start, because Smithy will immedialtey do Sledge, taking off about 40-60 HP off your allies. The best team for this battle is Mario, Mallow, and Toadstool. If you're wondering, Smithy will also do Mega Drain and Meteor Swarm. You do not want Smelter to make Shypers, because they will do Sword Rain, doing the same damage as Sledge. To make life easy, use Shocker on Smelter, as well as regular attacks. As soon as Smelter is history, attack the Shypers that are left over, then aim all your attacks on Smithy until he breaks the floor and sends everyone into a metal pit. ---PART 2--- -Smithy (Body): "What a heavy head!" -Smithy (Head): Magic Head: "Good magic, bad defense." Mask Head: "Nothin' can hurt me." Regular Head: "This isn't good at all!" Tank Head: "Don't shock me! DON'T!" Treasure Head: "What's hidden inside?!" HP: 1000/8000 Defenses: Smithy (Body): Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Smithy (Head): Magic Head: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Mask Head: Jump, Fire, Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Regular Head: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Tank Head: Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Treasure Head: Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Smithy (Body): N/A Smithy (Head): Magic Head: N/A Mask Head: Ice Regular Head: N/A Tank Head: Thunder Treasure Head: Fire The final battle for the seventh Star Piece! Smithy's true form is a robotic transformer. He will start out with a normal head, along with his body (the body remains the same). He will then change heads, and will repeat every few turns. Since each head shares the 8000 HP, it is easier. The object of the battle is to lower the head's HP to zero. You can only disable the body (like Exor's protectors). A good thing is that the party you picked for the first part (Mario, Mallow, and Toadstool) works well here also. A guide to each head: -Magic Head: I hate this head. As his Psychopath message reads, he has low defense, so use your normal attacks to chop off up to 800-1000 HP per round. He will return the favor by launching attacks such as Arrow Rain, Spear Rain, Sword Rain, Meteor Swarm, and Boulder. -Mask Head: This head is easy because it cannot attack. All it will do is Recover and Shredder (removing stat bonuses). Just use Mallow's Snowy attack and have Mario and Toadstool use their regulars. -Regular Head: His initial head before he changes cannot do anything until it changes, so pound it with regular attacks. -Tank Head: This tank's bullets are so powerful, they can easily penetrate the Lazy Shell armor, so heal whenever you get the chance. He hates electricity, so have Mallow use Shocker. -Treasure Head: This is the rarest of the heads. It will open and a spinning figure will stop, and do an attack. I think the ones it can do are Fear, Silence, Scarecrow, and Poison. Have Mario use Super Flame on this head. If you can deplete the head's 8000 HP, the game is over. Enjoy the ending! =========================================================================== --------------------------------MINI-GAMES--------------------------------- =========================================================================== MIDAS RIVER =========================================================================== This can be a very hard mini-game, if you don't pay attention. *WATERFALL SECTION* There are 36 coins in this area. Although it has been said to be possible, it is nearly impossible. You would have to swim against the current so much it would be insane. If you do it right, this can be a very easy area. *BARREL JUMPING SECTION* There are 64 coins in this area. There is a pattern here on whether to jump to the next barrel or let them bump and change course. It is bump,jump,jump,bump,bump,jump,jump,bump,bump,jump,jump,bump,bump,jump, jump, I think. The first time you complete this, you can trade in 60 of the coins you got for a frog coin. After the first try, it goes up to 80 coins, but it depends on how many coins you get here after the 1st visit. If you gte 70 coins, it goes fown to 75 coins. 80 coins, and it goes down to 70 coins. 90 coins, and it goes down to 60 coins. All 100 coins, and it geos down to 50 coins, plus you'll get five free frog coins. It's almost impossible to get 100, though. =========================================================================== MELODY BAY =========================================================================== It looks like Toadofsky is having problems planning his next symphony. You can now listen to the whole symphony. You may come back and change your part anytime you wish to. =========================================================================== GOOMBA THUMPING =========================================================================== In the Pipe Vault room with six pipes, go down the second pipe from teh right to access this. The room had four pipes and a mole guy. Talk to the mole guy and pay him 10 coins to play. The object is to get as many points as possible in 30 seconds by hopping on the Goombas that pop out of the pipes. A normal Goomba is +1, a golden Goomba is +3, and a Spikey is -1. The first goal is 20 points. If you reach the goal, the next goal will be two points higher than your final score. The first prize is a Flower Tab, the second is a Flower Jar, and each additional prize is a Frog Coin. The trick is to stop when you reach the EXACT number of points required. If you go over, hit Spikeys until you reach the desired score. =========================================================================== MUSHROOM DERBY =========================================================================== To battle Boshi in the Mushroom Derby race on Yo'ster Isle, get the cookies from the right Yoshi, then walk up to Boshi and talk to him. He'll challenge you. To win, press A and B going along with the rhythm. You also have three cookies. Press Y to eat one and speed up. This is one of the hardest challenges in the game, but it can be done. You'll get 2 cookies from Boshi for winning, plus one from Yoshi. If you decide to race later, come back and talk to Boshi. You need at least 1 cookie to race. When you agree to race, it will tell the odds against Yoshi, then tell you whether to ride on Yoshi or watch him. If the odds are: 1.5:1 Watch Yoshi, and wager as many cookies as you can 2:1 Watch Yoshi, and wager about 1/2 to 3/4 of your possible cookies 2.5:1 Race Yoshi, and wager no more than 1/2 of possible cookies 3:1 Race Yoshi, and wager only 1 cookie These are my strategies. You can come up with your own strategies. Just don't waste 10 cookies on a 3:1 odds, because there's a 90% chance you'll lose. When you wager cookies, you win them back if you win, plus 1 more. For that reason, you could just wager 1 cookie and get twice as many in return. Cool. =========================================================================== MINE RIDE =========================================================================== This is the most fun out of all of the games. The mine ride is comprised of 4 sections: *1ST SECTION* S=Start 2=To 2nd Section /\ / \ / \ / / /\ / /\/ / \ / / \ /\/\ \ /\ / \ / / / \ \/\ / \/ / / \ \ / / / / / /\ \ / \/ / / / \/ / / /\/ / / / /\/ / / \ /\/ / / \/\/ / / / / / / / S / \ 2 \ / \/\/ As you can see from my diagram, this is not an easy course to diagram. Also, you can see that this course is pretty easy to complete. It will probably take about 30 to 50 seconds to get through this. Use the turbo boost from the mushrooms (Y button) to rush through the straightaways. *2ND SECTION* This is one of the side-scrolling sections, so I won't draw them out. The basic strategy is to stay near the top if you're short on mushrooms, or on the bottom if you have a few to use. You'll be between 55 seconds and 1 minute 15 seconds at the end of this. *3RD SECTION* 2=From 2nd Section 4=To 4th Section /\ /\/ \ / /\ \ / / \/ / /\ \ / / \ / / / / / /\ / \ / \/ / / \/ / /\ / /\ \ \/ / / /\ \/\ \ / /\ \/\/ / \ / / \ / \ / / \ /\ / \/ / \ 2 \ / / \ \ / /\ / \ \/ / / /\ / /\ / \/ / \ \/ / / / \ / / / / \/ / /\ / / / / / / / / / \/ / \/ / /\/ \ \ \ \ \ 4 \/\ / / / \/ This area is a WHOLE lot tougher to get by. There are many multiple paths, as well as pits and tight turns. It will take between 40 seconds to 1 minute 10 seconds to get through. *4TH SECTION* The final area! All you have to do is charge to the right, grabbing more mushrooms and coins, until you reach the end. After the first time, you can come back and ride it again. If you pay 10 coins, you just ride it. You can also wager 30 coins to attempt to break your high score. You'll win 50 coins for beating your time, but I think if you don't you get nothing. =========================================================================== CURTAIN GAME =========================================================================== In Booster Tower, you have the chance to hide from Booster and his Snifits. Here is a diagram showing the number scheme: 4 3 2 1 And here is the chart showing which curtains are available to hide in for each check. In other words, which curtains the Snifits DON'T check. Only Snifit #1: Check #1: 1,2,4 Check #2: 1,2,3 Check #3: 1,3,4 Check #4: 2,3,4 Check #5: 1,2,3 Snifit #1 and Snifit #2: Check #6: 1,3 Check #7: 2,4 Check #8: 1,4 Check #9: 1,3 Check #10: 1,2 Check #11: 1,4 Check #12: 3,4 All 3 Snifits: Check #13: 4 Check #14: 1 Check #15: 2 Check #16: 3 Check #17: 1 Check #18: 3 If you get caught, you must start over with Check #1. Basically, if you get caught three times, you must go into battle: =========================================================================== BOSS: Booster -Snifit (x3) (see Enemies) -Booster: "This is like realizing you're outside with your clothes on!" HP: 800 Special Defenses: Sleep Weaknesses: Jump To be able to attack Booster, you must first defeat his three Snifits. Basically, use the same strategies you used on them earlier. For a quick defeat, use an Ice Bomb. After they are gone, Booster is left alone, and the real battle begins. Use regular attacks to bring him down. You might want to have a couple Mid Mushrooms just in case Booster uses Spritz Bomb and Loco Express, which might ALMOST kill one of your allies. If you win, you'll get either a Flower Box or a Mushroom. =========================================================================== If you do manage to survive the 18 checks without getting caught three times, he'll give you an Amulet. Equip it on Bowser and don't forget to use your Flower Box if you went into battle (if you got one). =========================================================================== BOOSTER HILL =========================================================================== Basically, there are three different ways to play this level: #1: This is the way you play while you're chasing after Booster. Each time you catch up to Booster, you'll get a Flower. At the top, you'll reach Marrymore. #2: This is the way you play if you come back. Basically, all you need to do is run across the course to grab flowers. #3: This is the way you play if you bought a Beetle Box in Seaside Town. To catch the beetles, go under them and jump. For ways #1 and #3, you need to jump off the top of the barrels and Snifits to go forward. If you get hit by them, you fall back. If you're really good, you can get up to 8 flowers or 4-6 beetles. =========================================================================== MONSTRO TOWN BATTLES =========================================================================== There are five optional battles in Monstro Town. They are not required, but a Jinx Belt and/or 244 experience points help out pretty well. Here's a guide of them: First, go upstairs to the only door on the second floor. You'll meet one of Bowser's old troopers, Jagger. If you want to get the Jinx Belt, start out by battling him: =========================================================================== BOSS: Jagger -Jagger: "Oh! I'm so excited!" HP: 600 Defenses: Jump, Fire, Poison Weaknesses: N/A Jagger is easy to beat. He may do Terrapunch, which is blockable. All it takes is about 6-7 regular attacks to beat. He'll be finsished in no time. =========================================================================== If you can survive Jagger, Jinx will come up and challenge you: =========================================================================== BOSS: Jagger -Jinx: #1: "You're just a beginner!" #2: "Sympathy!? Not from me!" #3: "Ooh! I'm gonna hurt ya!" HP: 600/800/1000 Defenses: All but Jump Weaknesses: N/A (For stats: first battle/second battle/third battle) To get the Jinx Belt, you must defeat Jinx three times. Since they are all against the same guy, I'll put them under one strategy (to save room). Each time you beat him, you'll have the chance to leave or you can continue. Your HP and FP are restored after each battle. You CAN run away, but he'll put you down. Just keep battling. #1: This is the easiest of the battles. He will use Jinxed, Triple Kick, and Valor Up. To take Jinx out, use Mario's Ultra Jump (almost 300 HP damage), while your other two characters (Geno/Bowser and Toadstool) use regular attacks or heal. Jinx will give up in a couple attack rounds. #2: This one is a little tougher. He will use Jinxed, Triple Kick, Quicksilver, Silver Bullet (instant death), and Valor Up. Basically use the same strategy as before. Be careful because if he does Silver Bullet and you block it, you'll be stuck with 1 HP! This shouldn't take very long either. #3: OH MY GOD THIS IS HARD! He will use Jinxed, Triple Kick, Quicksilver, Silver Bullet (still instant death), Bombs Away, Valor Up, and Vigor Up. You BETTER have a Crystalline and a Power Blast for this battle. There's a 30% chance you can beat him without it. (Ok, I admit it. I've only used a Crystalline and Power Blast once. That's because I'm really experienced.) When the battle begins, Jinx will do Bombs Away, so block because it does TONS of damage. When he does Vigor Up (about 2/3 or 3/4 through), ALL of his attacks are possible instant deaths (even if you're wearing the Lazy Shell!). If you can survive this round, he'll give you the Jinx Belt and you'll become the master of the dojo. Congratulations! =========================================================================== Now that you've taught Jinx a lesson, make sure you have the Shiny Stone, a few Maple/Royal Syrups, a couple Kerokero Colas, and at least two Crystallines and Power Blasts. This next guy will take about 1/2 hour to beat! To go into battle, get the Shiny Stone from Moleville, then enter the third door from the left. Prepare for trouble, and make it double! (That message is (c) 1999 Team Rocket Mottos, for you Pokémon fans!) =========================================================================== BOSS: Culex -Culex: "A little off, eh?" -Fire Crystal: "I gotta vacuum tonight!" -Water Crystal: "Get me back underground!" -Earth Crystal: "I hate being awakened!" -Wind Crystal: "Whhhhhhooooo..." HP: 4096/2500/1800/3200/800 Defenses: Culex: Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Fire Crystal: Fire, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Water Crystal: Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Earth Crystal: Jump, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Wind Crystal: Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Culex: N/A Fire Crystal: Ice Water Crystal: Fire Earth Crystal: Thunder Wind Crystal: Jump Doesn't 5 against 3 sound unfair? Especially when you're the 3? Oh, well. The best party is Mario, Mallow or Geno, and Toadstool. There are two ways to finish Culex off. You can attack the crystals, the Culex. Or, you can just beat Culex, because the crystals go when Culex go. Here's a strategy for each way: Crystals First: The best party here is Mario, Mallow, and Toadstool. Start out by using a Crystalline and Power Blast, and make sure you have lots of FP and Maple/Royal Syrups. After using the protective items, use all your Rock Candy, or Star Egg if you have it. If you want to beat him the old fashioned way, use this strategy: Culex: Regular Attacks Fire Crystal: Regular Attacks/Snowy/Ice Bomb Water Crystal: Regular Attacks/Super Flame/Fire Bomb Earth Crystal: Regular Attacks/Shocker Wind Crystal: Super Jump News Flash! NEVER USE REGULAR ATTACKS ON THE WIND CRYSTAL! It only does about 1 HP damage! News Flash! You will HAVE to heal each round as the crystal's magic and Culex's attacks will more than likely almost kill someone. Toadstool's Group Hug or a Kerokero Cola will work. If you can hold off and defeat the crystals, Culex is cake. Just use regular attacks. More times than not he'll run out of FP, so that helps out. Watch out for his normal attack and Dark Star, though. He will also do Shredder, so be ready to use a new Crystalline and Power Blast, if you have one. Culex First: Use Mario, Geno, and Toadstool for this one. Use a Crystalline and Power Blast, then go all out on Culex. You can normally do about 300-450 HP damage per attack round, so he'll give up soon. Make sure to have a lot of FP and maybe a Royal Syrup or two so Toadstool can do Group Hug EVERY turn. Or, just bring along a lot of Kerokero Colas. The crystals are ultra annoying though, so be careful. I like the other method better. No matter which way you beat him, you'll get 244 experience points and a Quartz Charm. =========================================================================== If you're wondering, Culex is harder than Smithy. Once you beat Culex, the door disappears. =========================================================================== LAND'S END CLIFF =========================================================================== A nice break from the terror at Monstro Town, if you decided to battle all those battles. The object is to get to the top by jumping on the eight shells to get up. To just get up, wait until each shell is done moving, then jump. To get items, jump to the next shell ASAP. Puzzle Room #1 offers these three challenges: 1)The first challenge is a version of the "Pick 21" game. The object is to get Dr. Topper to take the 21st coin. You may take anywhere from one to four coins per turn. Keep count of the coins taken. While it's your turn, and you hit #15, stop immediately. This way, this occurs: If he takes 1 (up to #16), take 4 (up to #20) If he takes 2 (up to #17), take 3 (up to #20) If he takes 3 (up to #18), take 2 (up to #20) If he takes 4 (up to #19), take 1 (up to #20) Whatever way, he gets stuck with Coin #21, and you win the round. 2)This one is super easy to complete. There are 16 switches set up like so: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 If you hit a switch to put it down, the ones to the sides of it (not diagonally) will go down if up, and up if down. You want to get them all down. To do this, hit switches 3,5,12,14. Alternate way: 2,8,9,15. Puzzle solved. 3)The hardest one in this room. 16 cannonballs are set up like this: O O * O O O O O O O O O O O O O To get rid of a cannonball, kick another one over it, but the one you're kicking must end up in an empty spot.
