Version 0.5: The first INCOMPLETE version of this guide! ********************************************************************* 2. Battle Commands A - Your regular attack command. You'll be mainly using this against the enemies. When you attack, you can do a Timed Hit by pressing A right as the first hit connects with the enemy. That way, you'll get an extra hit in and take some more damage, too! B - Your "defensive" command. You can either choose to defend against an attack, or even attempt to run away from a battle. You'll usually be able to run away, but sometimes you won't be able to for a couple of reasons. One reason is that the enemy's agility could be faster than your party's. Another more important one is that you CAN'T run from a battle against a boss! X - The command you use to take an item. You can select an item to use in battle against the enemy(s), or to heal yourself or someone else in your group. Y - Your special attack command. You can use a Special Attack with this command, provided you have enough FP (Flower Points) to execute that move! ********************************************************************* 3. Characters Mario - The plump plumber from the Super Mario Brothers series returns for another adventure in Super Mario RPG! He is a great fighter with regular attacks, plus he's great with his infamous jumping and fireball specials! Mario's Specials Jump FP Used: 3 Level Learned: N/A My Description: Mario jumps on the enemy! Press Y as you make contact with the enemy to make it a Timed Hit. Fire Orb FP Used: 5 Level Learned: 3 My Description: Mario shoots a bunch of small fireballs at a single enemy. Press Y as fast as you can to get a lot of fireballs shot! Super Jump FP Used: 7 Level Learned: 6 My Description: Same as the regular jump (duh!); Mario stomps on the enemy! Press Y right as he makes contact and he'll jump again. Keep doing that to cause major damage! Super Flame FP Used: 9 Level Learned: 10 My Description: Mario shoots even larger fireballs at the enemy! Press Y repeatedly to shoot a bunch of them at them! Ultra Jump FP Used: 11 Level Learned: 14 My Description: He jumps on the enemy yet again! Press Y as you make contact and he'll jump again, just like the Super Jump. The only difference is that you cause more damage with this special and there are slightly longer increments between timed jumps. Ultra Flame FP Used: 14 Level Learned: 18 My Description: You shoot the same size fireballs as you did with the Super Flame, but this time, they can hit multiple enemies! They may or may not ALL the enemies on the screen, but they will definitely hit more than one of them at the very least! Mallow - This pudgy, white "tadpole" joins Mario at the Mushroom Kingdom in hopes that he could help him get his Frog Coin back from Croco. He isn't the best attacker, but he has some really great special attacks! Mallow's Specials Thunderbolt FP Used: 2 Level Learned: N/A My Description: Mallow hits all the enemies on the screen with thunderbolts! As the storm is about to end, press Y to make it a timed hit for some extra damage! HP Rain FP Used: 2 Level Learned: 3 My Description: Mallow produces a small cloud that rains on the selected ally, recovering their HP. Unfortunately, you can only do it on one ally at a time; other than that, it's an OK healing spell during the first half of the game! Psychopath FP Used: 1 Level Learned: 6 My Description: A couple spotlights appear and then shine on the selected enemy. It'll show you how much HP they have remaining. If you hit Y right as the spotlights come together, you can see what that enemy is thinking, too! Shocker FP Used: 8 Level Learned: 10 My Description: Mallow makes a huge lightning bolt and hits a single enemy with it! Press Y just as you make contact to cause some more damage. Snowy FP Used: 12 Level Learned: 14 My Description: Mallow makes it "snow" on the screen, then a giant snowman appears on top of the enemies! It's very useful against fire enemies and it hits ALL enemies onscreen, too! Star Rain FP Used: 14 Level Learned: 18 My Description: Mallow makes a star appear and fall on the enemies! Press Y just before it makes contact with the ground to make it hit again, then keep doing that for multiple hits! Geno - This stranger from the Star Road comes down to earth and comes to life inside the doll named Geno. He has some really good special attacks, including one that could take 9,999 HP damage from almost any enemy! Geno's Specials Geno Beam FP Used: 3 Level Learned: N/A My Description: Geno shoots a ray beam at an enemy. For this attack to work, you have to hold Y down until 3 stars appear then release for an attack! Geno Boost FP Used: 4 Level Learned: 8 My Description: Geno raises a single ally's attack (both regular and special) stats in battle. If you press Y before the arrows pointing upward disappear, and that ally's defense stats go up, too (only in that battle, though)! Geno Whirl FP Used: 8 Level Learned: 11 My Description: Geno throws a slicer at the enemy. If you hit the Y button as it leaves the screen, you can cause 9,999 HP damage to an enemy, instantly killing them! It doesn't work on any of the bosses, though. Geno Blast FP Used: 12 Level Learned: 14 My Description: Geno puts on a light show that hurts all the enemies on the screen. You have to hold Y to charge up this move, too! Geno Flash FP Used: 16 Level Learned: 17 My Description: After you hold Y and release it when 3 stars appear, Geno turns into a cannon and shoots an orangish ball towards the enemies! It becomes really big and causes damage to every enemy onscreen. Bowser - The King of the Koopas comes and kidnaps the Princess again! After the giant sword crashed into Bowser's Keep, he got sent to another part of the world. You find him at Booster's Tower, and he helps you get in, then "lets" you join the Koopa Troop. He's a great attacker, but he doesn't really have any really good specials, though. Bowser's Specials Terrorize FP Used: 6 Level Learned: N/A My Description: Bowser summons a Big Boo to come and scare all the enemies on the screen. You have to rotate the Control Pad clockwise to make this move work. Poison Gas FP Used: 10 Level Learned: 12 My Description: Bowser makes a poisonous cloud appear and spread poisonous gas above the enemies. If it's effective against an enemy, their HP slowly gets taken away until they die! You have to rotate the Control Pad again to do this move. Crusher FP Used: 12 Level Learned: 15 My Description: Bowser makes a giant, jagged rock come out of the ground and hit the selected enemy from below! Press Y before it hits the enemy to cause some more damage! Bowser Crush FP Used: 16 Level Learned: 18 My Description: A giant Mecha-Koopa stomps across the screen, hitting all the enemies on the screen. Press Y repeatedly to attack. Princess Toadstool - The Princess joins Mario after he rescues her in Marrymore, then as he leaves the Mushroom Castle when he escorts her back there. She isn't really good at attacking at all, but the good part about having her is that she can heal your entire party! Princess Toadstool's Specials Therapy FP Used: 2 Level Learned: N/A My Description: She recovers one ally's HP and cures them from any irregular stats (scared, mushroom, scarecrow, etc.). Group Hug FP Used: 4 Level Learned: N/A My Description: This special is the same thing as Therapy, but you cure the entire party! Press Y just as it ends to recover a little bit more HP! Sleepy Time FP Used: 4 Level Learned: 11 My Description: This special attack puts the targeted enemy to sleep if effective. You have to rotate the Control Pad clockwise to execute this attack. Come Back FP Used: 2 Level Learned: 13 My Description: This special works like the Pick Me Up item does; it revives a fallen ally and recovers half their total HP! Press Y just as the spell is about to end to recover that ally's entire HP! Mute FP Used: 3 Level Learned: 15 My Description: This special prevents the enemy you were aiming to hit from using their special moves if it's effective! You have to rotate the Control Pad again to do this move. Psych Bomb FP Used: 15 Level Learned: 18 My Description: The Princess throws lots of tiny bombs at all the enemies on the screen! Press Y fast repeatedly to throw the bombs somewhat quicker. ********************************************************************* 4. Walkthrough *** Introduction *** The game opens showing the Princess sitting in the garden outside Mario's house picking flowers. It is a pretty nice day outside and nothing is wrong. Suddenly, the background goes pitch black and the Princess starts to get up. Then, out of nowhere, Bowser swoops in with his Flying Clown Cup and kidnaps the Princess! Then, Mario runs out of the house and heads to Bowser's Keep. The next scene opens showing Bowser flying to the keep, then Mario runs across the bridge outside the keep to the entrance. The door opens and Mario runs in, thus starting the game. *** Bowser's Keep *** You start the game in Bowser's Keep to save the Princess again from Bowser. In the first room of the keep, there's nothing to worry about, so just go through the door to the next room. In this room, there are a bunch of Terrapins patrolling the room, so watch out for them and try not to get into a battle with them; you get NOTHING for beating them! Go through the room to the door and the Terrapins standing by the door will spot you and approach you, pitting you into a battle against 4 Terrapins. They're very easy to beat and their attacks only take 1 HP damage from you, so just use a regular attack on each to defeat them. Then, go through the door. In this room, simply run across the bridges to the other side. When you reach the far ledge by the door, the 2nd bridge will collapse so all you can do is go through the door. Walk towards the end of the room and you'll see a couple of chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, as well as the Princess hanging by a rope high above you! The camera will move upward and Mario will automatically jump up the chandelier next to Bowser's and a battle will start. To win this fight, just use a timed Jump attack on the Kinklink. Bowser's attacks won't hurt you too badly, so ignore him and his attacks. Do the timed Jump attack once more and you'll hear a crackling sound and the Kinklink will start to lose its grip. Bowser will freak out and the chandelier will drop with him on it. Then, he'll throw a mallet up at the Kinklink holding Mario's chandelier up and that chain will lose its grip, too. Bowser will throw another mallet up and Mario's chandelier will drop as well until you're level with Bowser in the air. After Bowser finishes talking, he'll leap towards you to attack and Mario will counter by jumping on Bowser, thus springing him upward towards where the Princess is hanging. Bowser will drop with the chandelier and Mario will reach the chains up above. Then, he'll reach the Princess and just as he's about to save her, a loud rumbling occurs. You'll see a scene of a large star above Bowser's Keep, then you'll see it shatter and a sword will spiral down through the clouds into the keep. The impact of the sword causes Mario to be sent out of the keep and into the sky, and the Princess and Bowser's locations are unknown. *** Mario's Pad *** The scene at Mario's Pad opens showing Toad outside the Pipe House walking back and forth. Then, he stops moving and the camera moves up a small bit looking towards the sky to show Mario flying across the sky, then crash-landing inside the Pipe House. Toad then runs inside and talks for a moment, and then goes outside again. When you can control Mario, jump down from the wall and exit the house. Go talk to Toad, then use the Save Point nearby and exit the pad and head to Bowser's Keep. *** Bowser's Keep *** As Mario walks across the stony bridge to the castle door, he looks up and panics as he spots the giant sword staring back at him! The sword (also known as Exor) declares that it has taken over the keep, then it'll destroy the bridge to the keep, causing Mario to run away to nearby Vista Hill. Mario looks back at the keep and the sword while standing on the hill, then he walks away. Now it's time to go back to Mario's Pad to alert Toad of the situation. *** Mario's Pad *** Go inside the Pipe House and talk to Toad, who's standing by the window. Mario will then reinact the scene at Bowser's Keep with Exor, then Toad will tell you that he's going to go inform the Chancellor about the Princess then leaves the house. Now, you leave the house and head down the path as if you're leaving Mario's Pad, then Toad will run back and hit you accidentally. He'll talk for a moment, then give you a Mushroom. When he asks you if you know how to use items, say yes so he doesn't have to demonstrate to you how. Listen to Toad talk some more, then a Goomba will appear. When Toad asks you about Timed Hits, say yes so you don't have to see that presentation, either. The Goomba will walk away. Toad will talk for a while longer, then he'll give you 3 more Mushrooms and leave. Now, save the game if you want, then leave the pad and head to Mushroom Way. *** Mushroom Way *** This is the first area where you can fight enemies and gain Exp. points and Coins by beating them. It is also quite easy so it shouldn't be too difficult to get through this area! You should also fight alot of the enemies you run into to gain a level or two before you reach the Hammer Brothers at the end of the stage. From the start, just head up the path and hit the chest there until it empties to get 5 Coins. Keep going and you'll see Toad being trapped by a seemingly lone Goomba. Engage in battle with that Goomba and defeat the 2 Goombas to rescue Toad. He'll give you a Honey Syrup for your help and run away. Hit the chest repeatedly to get 8 Coins, then take the path to the 2nd section. In this section, head to the spinning red flower and defeat the 3 Goombas in battle then stand on the flower yourself. Wait until you're facing the right ledge and jump towards it from the flower to find Toad being held captive by a Sky Troopa. Defeat the 2 Sky Troopas in battle to rescue Toad yet again. Toad will give you a Flower Tab, then run away. Next, drop off the platform and continue through the area to the path leading to the last area of Mushroom Way and hit the chest right before it to get a Recovery Mushroom. Take the path to the final area and fight a bunch of Spikeys until you reach Level 2 because that's when you should be strong enough to beat the enemies ahead. After you're done gaining Exp. points, continue towards the right end of the area and you'll find Toad being held captive once again, but this time by a Hammer Bro! Approach the Hammer Bro once, and then approach him a second time to start the battle. It's fairly easy to defeat the 2 Hammer Bros. in battle. The easiest way to fight them is to concentrate on one of them at a time. You shouldn't worry about their attacks, either, because they don't present a real threat to you for they only take a couple HP away from you. Defeat the first Bro by using a timed Jump attack, then a timed regular attack. The remaining brother will then use Valor Up to make his defenses stronger. Do the same as for the other brother to defeat this one as well, but you might have to use another timed regular attack or two if needed. After they're defeated, Toad will pick up and bring you a hammer that the Hammer Bros. left behind, then he'll talk for a moment and head to the Mushroom Kingdom. Now, equip the Hammer as your new weapon, and then take the path out of Mushroom Way and head to the Mushroom Kingdom. *** Mushroom Kingdom *** When you enter the kingdom, just head straight into the castle. If you want to get the Hidden Chest in the castle because this is the ONLY part in the game when you could get it, you should go to the Inn and save your game before entering the castle. When you enter the castle, Toad will stop and tell you to follow him down the hall, and then he walks ahead. Follow him all the way through the halls to the Chancellor. The Chancellor will talk to you, then Mario will reinact the fight with Bowser and the encounter with the sword to show him what happened. After he's done talking, Mario will turn and the Chancellor will call to him again. He'll then give Mario a Map of the world. Then, Mario will start to head down the steps and the Chancellor will call to him AGAIN, causing him to fall down the stairs! The Chancellor will then tell you to head down to the basement and talk to the Vault Guard. Now that you can control Mario again, head back to the first room in the castle and take the path to the right to another room. Talk to the Vault Guard that's standing by the stairs and he'll lead you down to the basement. In the vault, hit the 3 chests to get 10 Coins, a Flower, and a Recovery Mushroom. Next, go back upstairs and to the first room of the castle again. Now, take the left path and go up the stairs. Continue into the Princess's room and walk up to the blue chair near the back of the room. Press A and it'll say that you found the Princess's ???, but the old lady nearby will scold you and give you a Mushroom. Now, go back downstairs and exit the castle. Outside, you'll see a marshmallow with legs chasing after a crocodile. After a short scene, the marshmallow guy will give up the chase and start crying, which causes a rainstorm! Go talk to him and he'll stop crying and introduce himself as Mallow. After he tells you about how that crocodile stole his coin, he'll join your party. Now, go to the Tool Shop and talk to the shopkeeper. He'll give you a free Pick Me Up. Then, talk to him again and buy the Shirt and Jump Shoes for Mario and the Pants for Mallow. You should also buy a couple Honey Syrups and Pick Me Ups (you shouldn't need any Mushrooms if you still have the ones from earlier in the game), then leave the shop. Walk down the path and you'll see a mushroom kid hopping up and down in a panic. Walk past him and he'll stop you and tell you about the crocodile that was causing trouble in the kingdom. After he's done talking, head to the Inn and save your game if you want, then go back down the path by that kid and take the path out of the Mushroom Kingdom. From there, head on to Bandit's Way. *** Bandit's Way *** When you enter this area, you'll find Croco standing there at the start. He'll spot you and run away, so now it's time to go after him! From the start, head down and right until you see a Save Point in the lower-left part of the area. Save at that point, and then take the path into the next area. In this area, jump onto the red spinning flower and use it to jump onto the higher ledge. Then, go right and jump from platform to platform in the air because each time you step on one, the other one rotates in front of you so you can jump onto it. Collect the coins in the air, then continue right and take the path to the next area. In the next area, you have to follow Croco up and through this area. Continue until you reach the last intersection, then take the right path and defeat the K-9 underneath the chest, then hit the chest to get a Recovery Mushroom. Now, go back down, left, and up to the next area. After Croco runs away AGAIN, jump onto the yellow platform to the right, then jump at an angle to hit the chest in the air to get the Super Star. Then, drop down and hit EVERY K-9 that you see until the star's power runs out to get lots of Exp. points. (You should gain a level at least by doing this!) Then, continue on to the final area. You'll see Croco there; he'll taunt you, then run away again. Enter the area and look for Croco. When you find him, simply sneak up behind him 3 times, then he'll stop running and battle you! Check out the Boss Strategies section of this guide to find out how to beat Croco. After you beat him, you'll get Mallow's coin back, as well as find a wallet. Now, a trampoline will appear nearby, so jump on it to be transported back to the first area of Bandit's Way. Just head up and exit the level and head back to the Mushroom Kingdom. *** Mushroom Kingdom *** When you return to the Mushroom Kingdom, you'll find that it's infested with Shysters scaring the people. The first thing you should do is defeat the Shyster chasing the mushroom guard nearby; he'll give you 10 Coins for saving him. Then, beat the Shyster following the mushroom guy with a blue hat, and then talk to him. Give him his wallet back and he'll give you a Flower Tab. Now, what you should do is fight all the Shysters in town, including the one hitting the house and the 3 inside of the big house. After you beat the 3 Shysters inside the house, the father will give you a Flower Tab for your help! Now, head inside the castle to find more Shysters and Toad being chased by one. Defeat the Shyster chasing him and he'll run into another room. Follow him, and then defeat the 2 Shysters there to make that room safe. Go up to the next room and the Shysters will fight you as you head for the door. Defeat them and enter the room with Toad. He'll be so happy that you helped him that he'll give you another Flower Tab, which belonged to the Princess. While you're in this room, talk to the old mushroom that scolded you before when you came here, and she'll completely restore your HP and FP, then save your game at the Save Point. Since fighting all those Shysters more than likely brought Mario and Mallow up to Level 4 or 5, it's time to head to the throne room. Make your way back to the main hall and take the right path. Fight the 2 Shysters scaring the mushroom guy then enter the upper room and talk to the frightened Vault Guard. He'll give you a Wake Up Pin, which you should equip on Mallow. Now, go to the main hall again and go up while trying to avoid the endless supply of Shysters coming through the door. Go through the next couple rooms, fighting the Shysters along the way until you get into the throne room. The Shysters will spot you and Mack will come forward. Then, Mack and 4 Shysters will surround you and you'll enter a battle against Mack and his minions for the star. After you defeat Mack, you can claim the first star! Next, go talk to the Chancellor and Mallow will talk about asking his grandpa for help, so they should go to Tadpole Pond. After you gain control of Mario again, exit the castle. Head to the Tool Shop and talk to the shopkeeper and he'll give Mallow the Cricket Pie in exchange for the Frog Coin Mallow got from Croco. Now, head to the Inn and save your game, then leave Mushroom Kingdom for Kero Sewers! *** Kero Sewers *** When you enter the area, go down the pipe to enter the sewers. Once there, save your game at the nearby Save Point, then jump into the water and swim to the right. Keep swimming right until you reach the "shallow" section of the water and jump out at that point and go down the pipe that's there. In the next room, drop down to the lower ledge to the right and go down that pipe. When you emerge in the following room, drop down to the ground to the right, then go up the steps and hit the chest to fight Pandorite, the chest monster. Defeat him by having Mario do a few timed Jump or Super Jump (if he learned it already) attacks while Mallow defends or heals. After you beat him, you'll get a Flower Jar and a Trueform Pin, which you should equip on Mario. Next, stand on the top step or second to top step, then jump up onto the higher ledge. Go all the way left then hit the chest to get a Flower, then go up the steps and head right. Go right and up the steps, then left and up those steps. Then, go right and down the pipe. Hit the chest next to the pipe to get the Super Star, then go down to the platform with the 4 Rat Funks and defeat them. Go up the steps and defeat the Boo that's there, too. Now, go left and down the pipe to the next room. Go left along the path where there are Rat Funks walking back and forth. Fight them or try and jump over them. (I'd rather you fight them; they're not that hard.) Go down the pipe, then in the next room, jump onto the ledge to the right where a Rat Funk is standing there. Defeat it, then drop down to the lower ledge and go down that pipe. Next, go up the steps and go right, and push the green ! switch to drain the water from the previous rooms. Drop back down to the pipe and go down it. Drop down the ledge to the floor and go all the way down until you reach a pipe you couldn't access before. Go down that pipe and hit the nearby chest to get the Recovery Mushroom inside, then save your game at the Save Point. Then, go right and down the pipe to reach the room with Belome inside. Go up to him and you'll enter a battle against him. After you beat Belome, the switch he was standing on will rise and the gate will open, causing tons of water to come gushing in, washing you down the Midas River course. *** Midas River *** Since this area is more like a mini-game than a real level, I won't get into too much detail for now. Look in the mini-games section of this guide to find more detailed info on this course. Just go down the first half swimming against the current trying to nab all the Coins and Frog Coins you can. In the second half, you have to ride a barrel down the river while jumping to collect the coins in the air and to avoid the piranhas that just out of the water and attempt to steal some coins from you! When you reach the end, the mushroom guy will give you Frog Coins, depending on how many coins you got throughout the Midas River. He'll also give you the Noknok Shell, which you should equip Mario as his new weapon. Save your game at the Save Point if you want, then exit the area and go to Tadpole Pond. *** Tadpole Pond *** When you enter this area, simply walk straight ahead and stand on the gray stone/switch and a tadpole will swim up to you. Then, a whole bunch of them will emerge from the pond and ask that you jump for them. Do your thing, and then Frogfucius will float in via a Lakitu. He'll have the tadpoles form a bridge for you and then floats back to the island he lives on. Now, jump from tadpole to tadpole to the island and Frogfucius will talk to you for a while. He's just telling you that the Princess and Bowser aren't at the keep anymore and that they're still out there in the world somewhere. Then, Mallow will say something and Frogfucius will reveal that Mallow is NOT a tadpole! He'll start crying, and then Frogfucius will have him join Mario on his journey. After the whole scene is done and Frogfucius is standing at the edge of the island all upset, go talk to him again. He'll be so happy that you brought him the Cricket Pie from the Mushroom Kingdom that he'll give you the Froggie Stick, which you should equip Mallow with. Now, jump back across the bridge of tadpoles and go right. Take the path into the next area to reach Melody Bay. Stand on the gray stone/switch and play "Frogfucius' Suite #18" on the bay. To find out how to play it, look in the Melody Bay Songs section of this guide. After you play it, Toadofsky will give you an Alto Card, which you could use to buy things at the Juice Bar, located at the far left end of Tadpole Pond. Next, save your game at the Save Point, then head back down the path out of Melody Bay, then head left and down to exit Tadpole Pond. Now it's time to head on to Rose Way. *** Rose Way *** From the start of this area, jump onto the yellow platform in the air and ride it to its first stop, then get off it. Take the Recovery Mushroom on that island if you need it, then jump onto the next platform and ride it to the next island. Get off there and take the Flower, then jump onto the next platform. Get off at this platform's first stop, then enter the next area, where you'll see 2 yellow platforms swinging back and forth, each with a Shy guy on top of it. Jump onto the 1st platform when it reaches its lowest point, defeat the Shy guy, then ride the platform until you come close to the other platform. Defeat the Shy guy on that one, too, then ride the platform to the chest, then jump to the chest and hit it to get a Frog Coin. Next, jump off the platform and exit this room. Back in the main room again, jump onto the yellow platform and ride it to its third stop, then get off and take the path to the next area. Simply follow the path through this room and you'll end up back in the "platform room". Get on the platform there and ride it to its first stop and get off, then get onto the other platform. Ride that platform to its 2nd stop, then get off and enter the next room. In this room, there are 5 chests, each with a Shy guy on top of them. Go around the room, hitting the chests until they empty and defeating the Shy guys that fall from the chests to get some Exp. points. By emptying all 5 chests, you will collect 20 Coins and a Recovery Mushroom. Now, go down and enter the next area. In this room, you'll find Bowser and his troops. After they all leave, take the path up and out of Rose Way and head to Rose Town. *** Rose Town *** Upon entering Rose Town, you'll find that arrows are falling from the sky, hitting and completely paralyzing the people they hit so they cannot move. What you should do first in this now dangerous town is get to the upper-left corner of town and talk to the guy that can move. Then, jump on his head, then onto the higher ledge and enter the house. Hit the 2 chests to get 2 Flowers, then head upstairs where you'll find a green ! switch. Hit the switch and go back downstairs and outside the house. There will be a set of stairs there and the guy will come up them and thank you, then go inside where it's safe. Go in the house again and talk to that guy; he'll give you directions to a hidden area in the Forest Maze. I'll tell you how to find this section when we get to the Forest Maze part of this guide. Now, leave the house and head to the upper-right part of town and enter the Tool Shop. Buy the Thick Shirt and Pants for Mario and Mallow and stock up on Honey Syrups Pick Me Ups, and Mushrooms if you need them, then leave the shop. Head back to the entrance of town and go left and enter the Inn. You'll see a kid playing with his Mario, Princess, and Bowser dolls. When he notices that you're there, he'll get his mother. When the kid asks to prove that you're Mario, do your jump and his mother will ask that you play with her son, Gaz. Agree to play and Gaz will bring out his Geno doll and accidentally shoot Mario with Geno's shooting star attack and knock him out! Later that night while everyone is sleeping, a tiny star will appear in the Inn and float around above the dolls. It'll then descend upon the Geno doll and "possess" it, making it life-size and real. It'll then walk out of the Inn. When Mario wakes up, save at the Save Point, and then go downstairs only to hear Gaz and his mom argue about the Geno doll and how it walked into the forest. After they're done, leave the Inn and the town and head to the Forest Maze. *** Forest Maze *** This stage is quite long and can be really annoying, especially when you reach the room with the 4 paths! There are also many mushrooms on the ground that you can take. Be warned though, that some are actually enemies in disguise and they move as soon as you're too close to them! As for the ones that don't attack you, they're just regular mushrooms, which you could use to recover 30 HP, just like the items. From the start, walk straight ahead into the next room where there is a stump with a Wiggler walking around. Go down the stump into the underground cave. Get through the cave and hop on the trampoline to go back outside. Next, just go up and right and take the path to the next room, where you'll find 7 stumps. Go to the very last stump at the back end of the room and go down it, then head left in the cave and you'll see a sleeping Wiggler. Jump on it to make it wake up and a loud rumbling will occur and you'll get thrown back out of the stump. You'll find that a new path has opened up behind the stump, so take that path! Get to the stump where you'll see a Wiggler crawling into it and go down that stump. In the cave, you'll find that same Wiggler from earlier all shaken up trying to sleep again. Ignore it and go through the cave to the next trampoline and jump on it. Once you're back outside, head up and right and save at the Save Point about halfway through the room. Next, take the path up the next room. You'll find yourself in a room with 4 paths where each path takes you to an identical room (just like the Lost Woods scene in Zelda for NES). You'll also see Geno standing by one of the paths. Before I talk about following Geno, I'm going to give you the directions to the hidden room that the guy in Rose Town told you about. The directions (assuming that you just entered the room with the 4 paths) are: left, left, straight, and right. These directions are through Mario's point of view, NOT yours, so keep that in mind. When you find the hidden room, go down the stump and hit all the chests to find Recovery Mushrooms, Flowers, and a Frog Coin! Now leave this room and take the path going up and you'll see Geno. Follow him as he heads through different paths until you don't find him, then take the path to the right, then up. You'll find Geno again by the path to the left. Go through that path and you'll reach the next room where Bowyer and his minions are! Bowyer is obviously the one that has been sending arrows into Rose Town stunning the people. Mario and Mallow will hide behind a stump and a minion will walk in with a star piece. Geno will appear again and demand that Bowyer gives him the star piece. While Geno is fighting Bowyer, Mario and Mallow will be hanging out on the side. Then, they'll jump in on the battle and it'll become a 3-on-1 battle against Bowyer. Read the Boss Strategies section of this guide for info on fighting Bowyer. After the three of you beat Bowyer, Geno will introduce himself and explain to you about the Star Road and the star pieces and how they're needed to repair the Star Road and restore peace. Then, Mario will claim the star and the camera will zoom in on an arrow minion that listened in on the conversation about the Star Road and he'll declare that he must inform Smithy about the stars, then run off. Now, continue up the path and exit the Forest Maze and go back to Rose Town! *** Rose Town *** Now that Bowyer is gone, falling arrows no longer stun the people and peace is restored to Rose Town. Enter the Inn and talk to Gaz. Mario, Mallow, and Geno will try and explain to him the Star Road situation, then Gaz will give you a Finger Shot. Equip that on Geno so he has a good weapon, then stay the night. In the morning, save your game, leave the Inn, and then leave Rose Town and head to the Pipe Vault. *** Pipe Vault *** This entire area is optional and you can just skip over it, but going through here is the only way to access Yo'ster Isle. Also, this place is really easy and you can get some extra coins and Exp. Points by playing through it. From the start, go down the pipe to go below ground. In the 1st room, just jump from ledge to ledge above the lava while trying to avoid the fireballs that come out of the lava unless you want to fight them. In the next room, just go straight up the steps while trying not to get crushed by the Thwomp! Then, jump over the pipe with the piranha plant, and then go down the 2nd pipe to the next room. In this room, there are 6 pipes with piranha plants living in most of them. Go down the 2nd pipe and run straight to collect a bunch of coins, then push Down at the last second to slide under the wall and collect the Frog Coin as well, then jump on the trampoline to get back up into the room with the pipes. Now, go down the second to last pipe and you'll see a mole guy and 4 pipes. Since this is also a mini-game, I won't go into detail here; look in the Mini-Games section for info on it. Use the trampoline to get back up, then go down the last pipe to the next room. Get through this room by jumping from platform to platform, jumping over the tan colored pipe, and then go down the green one. In this room, there are 4 tan colored pipes with piranha plants coming out of them, as well as a couple of little white plant things that steal your coins if they bite you! Fight some piranha plants, jump over the "coin thief" plants, then go down the green pipe to the next room. In this room, jump onto the yellow platform when it's at its lowest point, then hit the chest above it to get some coins, then drop off it and continue right. Jump across the ledges to avoid the white plant things below you, then jump onto the next yellow platform. Try and hit the chest above you while landing on the platform each time or else the plants below you will steal a bunch of your coins! Next, go right and go down the last green pipe to exit the Pipe Vault and emerge in Yo'ster Isle! *** Yo'ster Isle *** When you first emerge at Yo'ster Isle, save your game at the Save Point up and to the left of the pipe, then go down to the main area. Go all the way towards the exit of this area and talk to Yoshi, then jump on his saddle to ride him. Go back up and talk to the pink Yoshi by the entrance to the isle and he'll give you some cookies to challenge Boshi with. Then, go back down and talk to the blue dinosaur with the shades; that's Boshi and challenge him to a race. Since this is a mini-game, I'll tell more about the race in the Mini-Games section. After you beat Boshi, all the other Yoshis could race again and Yoshi will give you 3 Yoshi Cookies, then say his good-byes, and then walk away. Now, go down to the bottom end of the isle and take the path out of here. From here, head on to Moleville. *** Moleville *** When you enter this town, head left to the Tool Shop and go inside. Buy the Mega Shirt and Punch Glove for Mario, the Mega Pants and Cymbals for Mallow, and the Mega Cape for Geno. Also, buy a bunch of Mid Mushrooms and Maple Syrups because they're more useful, so you should sell the regular Mushrooms and Honey Syrups because they won't be of too much use anymore in the game now that you're stronger and have lots of HP and FP. Now, leave the Tool Shop and go down to the Inn and enter it. Stay for the night if you have to, save your game at the Save Point, then exit the Inn. Now, head up towards the mine at the north end of town. When you get close to the mine entrance, you'll hear a growling noise and the camera will show Bowser and his troops occupying an open area next to the mine. After they leave town, head into the mines. You'll see a couple of moles inside along with the Ma Mole, running around in a panic. After she leaves, the other two moles will ask if you can help by going into the mine and rescuing the 2 kids that got trapped inside after the star piece crashed into it. Agree to help, then jump onto their shoulders, then onto the higher ledge and enter the next area. Head right and into the next room, then drop down to the lower area and head up and into the next room. Jump on the trampoline that's there and you'll hit the ceiling, then drop back down and fall unconscious for a little while. Then, Croco and his minions will appear and rob Mario of ALL his coins, then run away. Now, head up and right and into the next room. Get through this room until you reach Croco and his guys again and they'll be at a "dead-end". Then, he'll blow a hole in the wall with a bomb, then run away. Run through that hole and chase after Croco. Keep following Croco through the rooms and touch him to enter a battle against him. You could fight his minions in the other rooms as well to get a bunch of coins and a few Flower Tabs, but it's more important to beat Croco. Read the Boss Strategies part of this guide to get info on beating him again. After he runs away, you'll get all your coins back as well as a bomb that he dropped. Now, get back to the room with the trampoline and take the left path to the next room. Continue through this room to the next one, then go up and left in the following room and take that path to the next room. In that room, go left and into the next room. Here, fight or avoid the Bob-omb and the other enemies and keep going to the next room. Here, you'll find Pa Mole standing at a dead-end. Talk to him and he'll blow open the wall so you can continue, then he'll leave the mines. Continue through the hole to the next room, and then go through the bottom path to the bottom path in the next room. Run straight to the other end and then try and go through to the next area and a Shy Guy on a mine cart will chase you back to the room before it. He'll crash into the crates and drop a Frog Coin, then run away. Take the Frog Coin, then climb up the crates and onto the higher path and enter the next room from there. Fight the 2 Bob-ombs before the chest to get some Exp. Points, then hit the chest to get the Super Star. Run up the path, defeating the Bob- ombs along the way and go into the next room. Beat the Bob-ombs there and head right to the next room. In the next room, climb up the crates and beat that Bob-omb and head into the next room then quickly run up the tracks and beat the 4 Bob-ombs. (You might not be quick enough to beat them before the star's power ends. Hit the chest to get the Recovery Mushroom, then save at the Save Point. Continue up the path and jump onto the high stack of crates, then hit the chest in mid-air to get a Flower, then go into the next room. You'll find a bunch of bombs and a purple enemy named Punchinello. Get behind Punchinello and approach him to engage in battle. Check out the Boss Strategies section to find out how to put Punchinello away. After you beat Punchinello, the giant bomb's blast will make the star piece fall from a ledge above you. After Mario claims the star, enter the next room. You'll find the 2 kids and a mine cart. Read the directions if you want, then you'll be going on a mine cart ride out of the mines! At the end of the ride, you'll fall through the ceiling into the house where the kids live. After they thank you, leave the house and you'll see a beetle fly by, then 3 Snifits running after it. The beetle will land on Mario's hat and the Snifits will surround you. They'll mention a couple things, including the "girl that fell from the sky" and about Booster and how he likes beetles. After they all leave, save the game at the Inn, then exit Moleville and head to Booster Pass. *** Booster Pass *** Since this is a real short area, this is a good place to just hang around and gain Exp. In the first room, there's a Lakitu, who drops Spikesters down on you. Fight them all, and then get to the far right corner of the area. Take the Flower on the ground, then Go back down and left a little bit and jump up to the highest ledge. Continue going up and right and take the path to the next room. In this room, go right and up, then take the other Flower in the corner. From there, you could either walk directly to the left and step on a hidden switch that seals up the holes on the higher ledges, preventing you from fighting the Spikesters there or just ignore the switch and go down. I'd prefer you ignore the switch because you should fight them and level up. Get onto the higher ledge from the lower ledges in the beginning of the room and fight the 4 Spikesters up there. After they're defeated, go up the path and out of Booster Pass. If you're at least level 8, you're ready to go to Booster Tower; if not, reenter the pass and train some more. *** Booster Tower *** When you first enter this stage, you'll find Bowser outside the tower. He'll be sitting there, crying, then he'll turn around and freak out because you saw him! After he says a couple things, the camera will move up to the top of the tower where the Princess is being held. She'll try and call to Mario, and then the view will go back down by Mario and Bowser. After Bowser leaves go to the tower's door and push A; it'll say that the door is locked. Walk away as if you're leaving the tower and Bowser will come back, figuring out that you're determined to save the Princess. He'll break down the door, granting you access to the inside of the tower, then he'll let you "join" the Koopa Troop. (In other words, he joins your party.) Now, learn how to Switch allies if you want, then switch Mallow for Bowser. Next, go inside the tower and go left and up the steps. Go right and memorize the order of the pictures on the wall; you'll need to remember them for another part of this stage. Continue right and enter the next room, then jump up the steps where endless supplies of Spookums come down the steps. Fight then if you need the Exp. Points, or just avoid them and continue up and left to the next room. In this room, you'll see a toy train on a track appear above you and a crazy looking guy sitting on it. You'll find out that he's Booster and he says something about the girl that fell from the sky, then he'll ride away. Follow the train to the right, then up and into the darkened area where the tracks go to get a Flower Tab. Next, enter the next room and go up the first set of steps. You'll see Rob-ombs walking around on the next set of steps. Make your way up the steps, either fighting or avoiding them, then take the first path down and to the right. You'll be on a high ledge with a chest high above you in mid-air. Stand on the edge of the ledge on the tan square, and then jump off the ledge. You should land on the other end of the teeter-totter below. The bomb at the other end will rise up, then drop down again, sending you up to the chest above you. After you hit the chest, you'll fall to the ground, and then the Masher will fall on your head. Equip Mario with it, then exit the room. Head left and up the steps again, then go right and enter the next room. Go up the steps and head left to the next room, then go down and right. Go to the next room and go up the steps again, but when you get to the top this time, go all the way to the right and take that path to the next room. In this room, simply step on the green ! switch; it'll make a new area appear in Booster Pass. Now, enter the next room and go up the steps. Go behind the curtain and walk out the other side to turn Mario into the classic 8-bit Mario. Try and exit the room, then he'll change back to normal, now go right and enter the next room. In this room, go up and right, jump onto the ledges with the Spookums, then onto the higher ledge. Go left and do the same thing to reach the top level, then head up and right while avoiding the Snifit's bullets, then enter the next room. In the next room, go up all the steps with the Rob-ombs walking around and enter the next room. Save your game at the Save Point in this room, then go ahead to the following room and you'll see a bunch of pictures in no particular order. You have to go up to them in order from oldest to youngest and press A. The order to go up to the pictures is the following: 4 5 3 6 1 2 If you did it all right, you'll get the Elder Key; use it to open the locked door to the left. Enter that room and jump up to the ledge with the Chained Chomp and it'll wake up. Bowser will take it off the chain and bring it with him as a weapon. Equip it on Bowser and leave the room, then head down and right to the next room. In this room, go up the steps and jump on the teeter-totter and the Thwomp will send you up to the next room up above. Now, jump onto the ledge in the middle of the room, then onto the yellow cubed ledge to the right. Then, jump onto the checkered platform, then onto the ledge to the left. Now, go up the steps and enter the next room. In this room, there are Coins, Frog Coins, and a Key scattered on the ground. However, the floor in this room is a trap and if you hit a trap, which you will, a Fireball enemy will appear and you'll have to fight it. Get to the key at the upper-right part of the room, and then unlock the door nearby. Go in that room and hit the chest to get the Zoom Shoes. You should equip them on Geno or Bowser. Now, leave the room and head down and left to the other door. Go through it to the next room and go up the steps where you'll find Chained Chomps sitting there. Get to the top, then enter the next room and the toy train and Booster will appear on a high ledge above you. When he starts throwing bombs at you, go down to the next room and Booster will ride away and the bombs will explode. In this room, go up a bunch of steps and go through the door at the top to enter the next room. Before you save, go down and right and jump onto the yellow ledge. Now, jump from ledge to ledge to reach the chest to the left. Open the chest to get the Recovery Mushroom. Then, save your game and enter the next room. Walk straight down and left to the other end of the room and you'll be at a locked door. You'll also find the Princess on the other side of that door, too. She'll tell you to hide from Booster because he's coming back, so Mario will hide behind the curtains. Then, Booster and the 3 Snifits will walk in and start the wedding rehearsal. Booster will realize that the Mario doll is missing and he'll send a Snifit to check behind the curtains. Play hide-and- seek with the 1st Snifit by moving around so you don't get caught. Then, another Snifit will join in and help the 1st one look behind the curtains. Next, the third Snifit will come help the other two. If you can manage to outlast them, Booster will open the final curtain, but look up and find the Mario doll on a high ledge, not knowing that the real thing is right in front of him! Jump up under the doll and knock it off the ledge and Booster will thank you and give you an Amulet, which you should equip on Bowser. If you do get caught by the Snifits in the curtain game 3 times, Booster and the Snifits will fight you. Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to fight them. After Booster and his Snifits open the door and leave, go back and switch Geno for Mallow, then save your game in the previous room. Now, go back to the curtain room and go through the door that was once locked and Knife Guy and Grate Guy will appear and a battle will start. Look in the Boss Strategies section for info on beating them. Then, after they're gone, your 3 allies will jump off the balcony and leave the tower, heading to Booster Hill. *** Booster Hill *** This area isn't a real level; it's just another mini-game that you must do now, but you can come back later and play this course again and again. All you have to do now is chase Booster up the hill while jumping on barrels and the Snifits to get closer to the Princess. Each time you touch her, she'll give you a Flower and Booster will knock you back a little bit. After you reach the top, you'll enter Marrymore. *** Marrymore *** When you enter Marrymore, head right into the Inn/Tool Shop. Buy the Happy Shirt for Mario, the Happy Pants and Whomp Glove for Mallow, the Happy Cape and Hand Gun for Geno, and the Happy Shell for Bowser. Also, buy some Mid Mushrooms and Maple Syrups if you need them. Then, switch Mallow for Geno, save your game at the nearby Save Point, then leave the shop and head towards the chapel. Talk to the people there and you'll see a Snifit kick a soon-to-be couple, Raz and Raini from the Mushroom Kingdom, out of the chapel. Talk to them, then go right and to the side of the chapel. Walk to the left and you'll enter through the back entrance! Go through the kitchen, then up the stairs and you'll be in the main area of the chapel. Walk to the middle of the room and a Snifit will catch you and then try and run through the door at the top of the steps. Since it's locked, he'll ask you help him break it down, so run with him and break down the door. You'll stop in the next room and the Snifits will all crash into the room ahead. They'll shut and lock that door. Now, save the game and go to the door and press the A button. The Snifit will say something, then Bowser will come out and get upset. Then he'll move back and attempt to knock down the door. Run with him to knock it down and you'll be in the main room. The Snifits will knock into the Princess and her various accessories will be scattered throughout the room. The Snifits will take the ones they can find in between the pews. Now, go up to each of the Snifits and talk to them, making them give you the accessory they have. When you have the 3 that the Snifits had, go up to Booster and jump on his head and take the crown. Jump down and talk to Booster and give him the items. Then, the Princess will freak out because Bowser is with you, then an argument breaks out about who gives who a kiss: Mario, Bowser, or Booster? If you picked up the Princess's items really quickly, the Princess will kiss you; if you took your time, the other two will kiss you! After the kissing thing is solved, Mario, Bowser, and the Princess start to leave the chapel and Chef Torte and his Apprentice come in with the cake wondering why everyone's leaving. They get upset and start a battle with you. Check out the Boss Strategies section of the guide to find out how to beat them. After you beat them and their cake, Booster and the Snifits will leave Marrymore and Mario and the group will leave the room. In the waiting room, Raz and Raini and their guests are standing around waiting. Then, they all enter the chapel now that Booster is gone. Now, exit the chapel and take the path down and to the right to exit Marrymore and head all the way back to the Mushroom Kingdom. *** Mushroom Kingdom *** When you get back to the Mushroom Kingdom, head straight up the path and right into the castle. Toad will be waiting yet again in the hallway. He'll see you and then be surprised when he sees the Princess with you. He then takes you directly to the Chancellor. Then, the Chancellor gets to meet your entire party and hear their stories, and then the Princess decides to stay at the Mushroom Kingdom. When you can control Mario again, leave the throne room and exit the castle. The Princess will call to you and float down from a castle window with her parasol. Talk to her and Mallow will suggest visiting Frogfucius again, then the Princess will join you! Leave the Mushroom Kingdom and head to Tadpole Pond. *** Tadpole Pond *** Once you get to Tadpole Pond, head straight to the gray stone/switch and stand on it. Jump across the tadpoles to the island with Frogfucius. Talk to Frogfucius and he'll tell you that a star piece has been spotted on Star Hill. With that info, jump back across the tadpoles and leave Tadpole Pond and go to Star Hill. *** Star Hill *** When you first enter Star Hill, go up and left, then go up to the flower and press A. It'll make the giant star nearby open up. Go through the star door and you'll be in the first area of Star Hill. Geno will explain to you what happens at Star Hill. When he's done, go left and up to the first flower. Next, go up and right to reach the second flower. Then, go all the way left and down to the next flower. >From there, go up to the 4th flower. Then, go right to reach the next flower. Now, go left and down and through the now open star door to reach the 2nd area. In this much larger room, go left and down a tiny bit and activate the first flower. Then, go up and left to the next flower. Now, go right a small bit and go straight down and left to the next flower. Then, go right all the way to the next flower. Go right and down to the next flower, then go straight up to the last flower. Now, go left and enter the star door to reach the next room. In this final area, go straight down to the first flower. Then, go left to reach the next flower. Next, go up and right to the next flower. Next, go up and left to the 4th flower, then go right and down to the next flower. Now, go up and right and you'll find the star piece! After Mario claims it, go down and right to the last flower, then go left and through the star door to leave Star Hill. Now head to Seaside Town. *** Seaside Town *** When you get here, you'll notice that something's not normal here. Enter the Inn if you want and talk to the dazed mushroom person to get a room for free. When you wake up, go downstairs and save your game at the Save Point, then leave the Inn. Now, go towards the back of the town and go up the steps to the house on the hill. Talk to the "Elder" when you enter the house and he'll ask you to recover a star piece that fell into the sea. Then, go upstairs and talk to the frog sitting there. He'll talk to you, then try and sell you some stuff, which you can only buy with Frog Coins. Since the prices are high and most of the stuff is useless, don't buy anything. Now, go back down the stairs and leave the house, and then exit the town and head to the Sea. *** Sea *** The first thing to do when you enter this area is jump to the ground and talk to the Shaman to get a chance to buy some useful stuff. Buy the Sailor Shirt for Mario, the Sailor Pants for Mallow, the Sailor Cape for Geno, the Hurly Gloves for Bowser, and the Nautica Dress for the Princess. Also, buy some Pick Me Ups, Mid Mushrooms, and Maple Syrups if you need them. Now, take the path behind the counter to the Save Point, but DON'T save yet. Now, make your lineup have Mallow and the Princess in it with Mario. Also, remove all armor and accessories from the three in your lineup, then save your game. Then, leave the room the way you came and take the other path into the other room. Walk along the crates, then drop down to the lower ledge and hit the chest to get the Super Star. Now, run through the room and kill EVERY Zeostar there, then go down and enter the next room. Defeat the few Zeostars in this room if you can as well, then go into battle with the Zeostar(s) you didn't have enough time to reach. Let the enemies kill you so you get returned to the Save Point with all your Exp. Points and the Super Star still in the treasure box! Keep on getting the Super Star, killing the Zeostars, then letting yourself die until your party is at least up to Level 14 or 15. Now, continue along the path and when you have the choice of either going left or right, go right into that room. Take the Flower, the Frog Coin, and the Recovery Mushroom from the chests, and then climb over the crates to the Save Point. Save the game, then leave the room and go down and take that path to the room where you got the Super Star. Now, drop off the ledge and go to the next room, and in that room, go through it and take the path going left into that room. In that room, go down and into the water, then swim into the whirlpool to reach the bottom of the water. Then, walk up and into the other room and let the current bring you up to the surface. Then, jump out and hit the nearby chest to get a Max Mushroom. Now, drop off the ledge and go left and down to the next room. Now you find yourself alongside a lake infested with Bloobers swimming around. Jump in the water and go into a whirlpool to reach the bottom, then go left and down until you reach a sunken ship. Jump onto the crow's nest on top of it, and then press Down on the Control Pad to enter the Sunken Ship. *** Sunken Ship *** From the start of this rather long stage, enter the room up and to the right and save your game there. Then, jump back over the blocks and exit the room and go through the other door. In that room, go up and right and go through the door to the next room. In this room, go down the stairway right behind one of the Alley Rats that go down the stairs, too. That way, you'll reach the very bottom without having to fight any of them. Then, jump onto the lower blocks, then onto the higher blocks and hit the chest until it empties to get 10 Coins. Now, go into the next room and go down and left. There are rooms with Greapers in front of them, but you don't have to enter those rooms unless you aren't reading this guide because those rooms have puzzles in them. When you solve them, you get a clue about what the password is in a room further ahead in the ship. Anyway, just keep going and enter the next room. Drop down to the lower area and defeat the Dry Bones there. Then, while he's all crumbled up, run into the little alcove and hit the chest as quick as you can to get all 10 Coins from it. Fight and defeat the Dry Bones again, then talk to the Shaman and buy some supplies if you need them. Go through the door and head right and up to the other side of the room. Defeat the Greaper guarding the door, then go through it there and enter the next room. In this room, you'll see a bunch of barrels to the right. Jump onto the top of the barrel pile and you'll cause a barrel to fall to the floor. Jump on that fallen barrel while facing right to roll it. Keep moving it until it rolls onto the switch, then jump onto the other switch. Take the Recovery Mushroom and read the clue if you want, then save your game and put Geno and the Princess in your party, then go to the following room. You'll see 6 blocks; when you stand under each one, a bunch of letters appears on the screen. For the first block, pick the "p", for the second one, pick the "e", for the third, pick the "a", for the fourth, pick the "r", for the fifth, pick the "l", and for the last block, pick the "s". Then, go up to the open end of the tube next to the door and press A. You'll say the password, which is "pearls", and the door will open and a tentacle will signal you to come in. When you enter, you'll be put into a battle with King Calamari and his 8 tentacles. Read the Boss Strategies part of this guide to find out how to beat him. After he's done and you end up in a room with a trampoline, go out the door into the next room. Here, jump onto the blocks, then onto the higher ledge and go through the door to the upper part of the next room. In this room, run up and right when there aren't any bullets coming and you'll be safe. If a bullet hits you, you'll fall to the lower level and you'll have to leave the room and get to the higher ledge, then try again. When you get to the other end of this room, go to the next room. Go down the steps right behind an Alley Rat so you don't have to fight them, then enter the next room when you reach the bottom. Go up and left to the 2 barrels stacked in the corner. Stand on them and jump onto the higher platform and empty the 2 chests to get a whopping 200 Coins! Now, go up and through the door next to the barrels to the next room. In this room, you'll find an exact duplicate of Mario that does whatever you do. Either walk left and down right past him or go up to his face and try talking to him to fight his true self: a Greaper and other undead enemies. Then, go through the door and into the other half of the room you were just in and go left and down to the next room. Here, stay along the wall and go up and defeat the Dry Bones, then walk behind the blocks to find a hidden room. Hit the chest there to get a Frog Coin, then leave the room and go down the stairs. Hit the chest at the bottom of the stairs to get a Recovery Mushroom, then save at the Save Point and put Mallow in your party. Now, get to the other side of the block wall and hit the other chest to fight Hidon, the chest monster. Defeat him using Mario's Super Flame and Mallow's Shocker. After he's defeated, you'll get the Safety Badge; equip it on Mario. Now, go through the door to the next room. In that room, go up and through the other door to the following room. Jump in the water and swim into the whirlpool to get to the bottom of the submerged area. Now, go down and into the next room and take the Frog Coins along the floor, then go back through the door you came and back into the other room. Now, go up and through the underwater door to the next room. In that room, go down the steps and try and jump over the Zeostars or fight them if you want. Once at the bottom of the stairway, go to the next room. In this room, you'll see a pile of barrels in the left and right sides of the submerged room. Get behind the barrel pile to the left and through the hidden door to a secret room. Hit the chest to get the Safety Ring, which you should equip on the Princess, then leave the room. Now, get to the barrel pile to the right and jump up to the top of it. Continue up and right and jump up the barrels there and then jump out of the water and through the door to the next room. In this room, a bunch of Bandana Reds will stop and fight you. Have Mallow use a timed Thunderbolt attack or two to wipe them all out! When they run up the steps, hit the chest they left behind to get the Recovery Mushroom, then run up the stairs to the right. The reinforcements will run down the stairs and you'll hide underneath one of the steps. Then, Mario will jump up and run up the stairs not only to find a couple Bandana Reds at the top. They'll throw a barrel down the steps and Mario will dodge it and it'll hit the Bandana Reds below. Now, run up the stairs again and enter the next room. The Bandana Reds there won't be happy to see you, so they'll fight you. Simply beat them with another of Mallow's Thunderbolt attacks. Next, they'll grant you access to Jonathan Jones' room. Before you go in, switch Mallow for Bowser and refill your FP with a Maple Syrup. Now, go in the room and Jonathan Jones will say that he won't give you the star, then he'll get up and fight you. Find out how to beat him by reading the Boss Strategies section of this guide. After he's defeated, he'll give you the fifth star piece! After you can control Mario again, go right and through the door, then jump onto the trampoline to exit the Sunken Ship. Now, head back to Seaside Town. *** Seaside Town *** When you return to Seaside Town, you'll be confronted by the fake Elder and the other evil mushroom guys and demand that you give them the star piece you just got. Give it to them when they ask, then they'll run away. Stop in the Inn and save your game, then head to the left end of town. Switch Bowser for Mallow so your party consists of Mario, Mallow, and the Princess before you enter the next area. Take the path to the next area and you'll trap the elder. They'll attempt to make a dive for it, but Jonathan Jones will block their escape, causing them to drop their disguises and transform into Yaridovich. To find out how to fight Yaridovich, read the Boss Strategies part of this guide. After you beat him, take the key that appeared and go back into the town. Then, go down and open the locked door and enter the shed. All the people will thank you and the Elder will give you a Flower Box for not hesitating to give Yaridovich the star when you were confronted to save the town. Now, go up to the Elder's house near the back end of town and go inside. Talk to the Elder and he'll tell you about Land's End. After he's done talking, leave the house and go down the steps. You'll see a building to the right and down and to the left. Enter the middle door in the building down and to the left to enter the Weapons/Armor shop. Buy the Troopa Shell for Mario, the Ribbit Stick for Mallow, the Double Punch for Geno, and the Parasol for the Princess. Now, leave the shop and go down and leave the town for Land's End. *** Land's End *** From the start of this area, save at the Save Point, then jump into the cannon. Wait until it's pointing to the ledge up and to the right, then shoot yourself up to that ledge. Go up and right and into the next area. In this section, go up and right and you'll see another cannon; jump into it. Shoot yourself to the higher ledge and you'll land in a ditch and 3 Chows will pop out. Jump out of the hole and fight the Chows for Exp. Points, then continue up and right to the next area. Here, you'll have to jump from platform to platform all the way to the other side. There are also Geckits that are walking around on these platforms and once they fall off, another one is shot up there by the cannons to the side. Fight all the Geckits in your way and when you reach the end, go to the next area. In this part, you'll have a choice of either going on the upper path or the lower path to the right. Take the lower path right and take it to the next section of this stage. Go left and up and you'll see a cave in the wall. Jump into it and hold Up to get inside. Once inside the cave, follow the path left and up. Then, go right and down the steps and take the path to the next room. Go left and up and jump over the block in your path. Continue up to the barrels and jump onto the top barrel to make it fall to the lower level. Then, drop down to the lower ledge and jump on the trampoline to be sent back to Kero Sewers. *** Kero Sewers *** When you arrive back in Kero Sewers, you'll be on the high ledge you couldn't reach during your first visit here. Jump to the ledge to the left and hit the chest to get Cricket Jam. Now, drop down off the ledge and jump on the trampoline to reach the surface again. Then, leave the area and head down to Tadpole Pond. *** Tadpole Pond *** When you get here, go straight and stand on the stone/switch to make the tadpoles appear. Jump across the pond via the tadpoles and talk to Frogfucius. Give him the Cricket Jam and he'll give you 10 Frog Coins for the gift. Now, get back across the pond and leave Tadpole Pond and go back to Land's End. *** Land's End *** When you get back here, get through the first few areas until you reach the area where you can go on the upper or lower paths. This time, use the red spinning flowers to go on the upper path. Once you get to the top, go ahead to the next area. You'll end up right at the start of the Sky Bridge. For info on the Sky Bridge mini-game, read the Mini-Games section of this guide. For now, just get across the bridge and go to the next area. You'll end up in a desert located in the middle of nowhere. First, talk to the mouse and he'll give you directions on how to get to Monstro Town, then he'll leave. Now, save your game at the Save Point, then go right and jump into the left whirlpool. When you end up in the next area, you have to start trying to reach Monstro Town. In each area, you'll see an Armored Ant pop up in one of the whirlpools in the sand. Fight and defeat the Armored Ant, then go down the whirlpool that the ant came out of. Do that in each area until you end up in a cave. Like in the Sunken Ship, put Mallow and the Princess in your party and remove all their armor and accessories. Now, save your game at the Save Point and drop down to the lower ledge and hit the chest to get the Super Star. Now, defeat the Geckits and go into the next room. Run through it and defeat some more Geckits and the 4 Chows. Go into the following room and fight some more Geckits, then drop down the hole. By then your invincibility should've worn off, so jump behind the boxes to the left and talk to the Shaman hiding there. Pay him 400 Coins for another star, and then hit the chest to get another Super Star. Jump back over the boxes and run around the room and defeat all the Geckits in the room to gain LOTS of Exp. Points, maybe even gaining a level. Now, take the path right into Belome's Temple and have any enemies inside defeat your party so you start back in the cave again. Repeat the process with the stars until you're at around Level 19-20, and then play for real in Belome's Temple! *** Belome's Temple *** When you enter this place, go down the stairs and turn the corner and continue up the path to the next room. In this room, there are 3 heads on the wall. Talk to the shaman by the wall and pay him 50 Coins to have your fortune told. He'll make you hit the 3 heads in any order you want, and then read the scroll that appears atop a platform after you hit them all. First, hit the chest until it empties to get your 50 Coins back, then hit the heads. Here, I'll list what happens when you hit the heads in any possible order: Left + Center + Right = You'll have a 50/50 chance of getting either a Recovery Mushroom or a Yoshi Cookie. Left + Right + Center = You'll get a Yoshi Cookie. Center + Left + Right = You'll have to fight 3 Chows. Center + Right + Left = You'll have a 50/50 chance of fighting either 3 Chows or 1 Shy Away. Right + Left + Center = 66.6% of the time, you'll get 100 Coins. 33.3% of the time, you'll get a Frog Coin. Right + Center + Left = You'll get 100 Coins. After you hit the heads in the order you choose, go up and jump onto the brick pedestal that appeared and read the scroll there, then jump onto the higher ledge and go to the next room. In that room, just go down the pipe at the back of the room, then in the following room, you'll do whatever the fortune said you have to do. When the door opens, enter the next room and go down the stairs. Then, continue right and up to the next room. In this room, you'll find another head on the wall. Hit the head and read the scroll that pops out; if it reads, "Mmm, I'm so hungry! Wish I had something to eat!" go down the elevator and into the next room. If the scroll reads, "Sorry, I'm not accepting visitors past my bedtime." exit the room, then come back and try again. In the next room, you'll meet up with that mouse from Land's End again and he'll say that he'll meet you in Monstro Town, then go down the pipe. Go down the pipe and make sure Mallow is in your party, then walk up to Belome to fight him. Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat him. When Belome leaves, go through the now open gate into the next room and go down the pipe to Monstro Town. *** Monstro Town *** When you enter Monstro Town, go down and right and enter the first door. Talk to the Monstermama (the mushroom person) and she'll tell you to go upstairs to see their "star". Go upstairs and talk to the star and it'll play a tune that you can play on Melody Bay. Now, go back downstairs and talk to Monstermama again. She'll then understand that you're looking for star pieces and she'll say that this area is the last place on land and that the next place to look might be in the sky. Then, she'll call in the Sky Troopas, lead by Sergeant Flutter. She'll ask that they help Mario scale the cliff in Land's End so he could reach Bean Valley. After they leave and Monstermama lets you leave exit the room and go down and right and enter the next room. Talk to the Thwomp inside 7 times so he shakes the key on the ledge outside the door fall down. Leave the room and take the Temple Key, then go left and up to the trampoline. Jump on it to go back to Belome's Temple. *** Belome's Temple *** When you enter the temple again, go down to the room where you fought Belome and jump on the trampoline there, then go left in that room to the room with the elevator. Go up the elevator and hit the head on the wall and read the scroll. If it says, "Sorry, I'm not accepting visitors past my bedtime." Go back down the elevator and into the next room. If it has the other message printed on it, leave the room and come back. In the new room, talk to Belome and give him the Temple Key. He'll eat it, then vanish so you can clean out that room! In that room, you can collect 8 Frog Coins, 4 Flowers, Royal Syrup, a Max Mushroom, and a Fire Bomb. Take all the loot, then leave the room and go back up the elevator. Hit the head again and read that scroll. When it says the other message, go down the elevator and into the next room. Go up and into the following room, then down the pipe back to Monstro Town. *** Monstro Town *** Now that you're back in Monstro Town, go down and right and enter the fourth door, which is the Tool Shop. The Goomba shopkeeper will turn around and be surprised that Bowser is there with you. After Goomba introduces the Triplets to Bowser and wish each other luck, talk to the Goomba again to buy stuff. Buy the Courage Shell and Spiked Link for Bowser. Then, leave the shop and continue down and right and you'll see a hole in the ground. Drop in it and save your game at the hidden Save Point. When you're done doing that, go up the stairs and through the door at the top to enter Jinx's Dojo. You'll meet Jagger, one of Bowser's old troops. Then, Jagger will tell him about how he enrolled into Jinx's Dojo. Then, go up to Jagger and talk to him and he'll challenge you to a fight. Fight him with pretty much anyone in your party because he's not too hard. Just use a bunch of timed regular attacks on him and he'll be finished pretty quickly! After you beat him, Jinx will appear in the room and challenge Mario to a duel. Since this part is not required for you to continue in the game, I strongly recommend that you come back after you get the Lazy Shell weapon to make these fights a bit easier. When you come back to fight Jinx, read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to take on Jinx in all 3 fights. After you beat him, you'll get the Jinx Belt, which you should equip on Bowser. Now, leave the dojo and go right and down, then drop into the hole and save your game before you set out towards the cliff and Bean Valley. Now, head all the way left to the trampoline and jump on it to get into Belome's Temple again. *** Belome's Temple/ Land's End *** Simply work your way all the way through Belome's Temple until you're in the underground caves again with the Geckits. (There are no enemies in the temple, except Mokura if you catch him, so it's VERY easy to get through here!) When you're in the caves again, there's going to be a lot of Geckits there, so work your way around them to the trampoline at the lower left section of the room. Jump on it and get through that room to reach the following room. Now, go through the next room and in the room after it, jump on the crates, onto the chest, then onto the higher ledge. Save your game here, then exit the caves and you'll be in the desert again. Go up to the next area and you'll see the Sky Troopas fly onscreen and deploy themselves along the side of the cliff. Since this is also a mini-game, I've given info on this part in that section, so look in the Mini-Games section if you're going for prizes. Otherwise, just get to the top of the cliff and Sergeant Flutter will give you a reward depending on how quick you made it up (see Mini-Games section for details). Then, jump up and take the path up and out of Land's End and go to Bean Valley. *** Bean Valley *** When you first enter Bean Valley, go up and right and go down the pipe on the right. When you emerge, go up and left and down the next pipe. In the new area you come up in, just go up and left into the next area. In this room, there isn't anything of real importance to do, so just go up to the Save Point, save there, and re-arrange your party so that Mallow and the Princess are in your group, then go ahead to the next room. In this room, you'll see a shriveled up plant in the pipe and a Shy Away will fly in and water it. When the plant comes alive, jump on it to enter a battle against it. As always, check the Boss Strategies section for info on beating the Megasmilax. After you beat it, the Shy Away will fly away, dropping a note nearby. Read the note and take the Seed that's attached. Now, go down the pipe to the right and into the next room. In this room, just go under the block and hit it and a beanstalk will come out and grow all the way up to the sky. Then, hit the block again and Mario will jump up and climb the beanstalk up into the clouds. When you reach the clouds, go left and jump onto the vine and climb up it. Once at the top, jump up and to the right onto the next vine and climb it to the top. Now, jump onto the next vine and climb up that to the next area. In the next area, climb up the yellow vine to the top, and then jump left and down to grab onto the next vine. Climb it, then hold Y and jump left and down slightly so you grab hold of the next vine, then climb it up to the next area. Go up and climb the first vine, then once at the top, jump up and right to the next one. Climb that one to the top, then drop off its left side and maneuver yourself so you land on the top of the yellow one below and to the left of you. The next jump is pretty difficult to do, so it might take a little while for you to get it right. Hold Y, and then jump left and press Down slightly so you grab hold onto the very bottom of the vine. Now, just climb up it to the next area. Hit the 2 chests here to get the Rare Scarf and a Frog Coin, then drop down the hole to the next area. In this small room, hit the 2 chests here to get 2 Flowers, then drop down the hole to reach a lower area in the clouds. When you land, jump on the trampoline and in the following room, jump on the left trampoline (the one with the smiley face) and you'll enter Nimbus Land! *** Nimbus Land *** When you enter Nimbus Land, a crowd is standing outside the Nimbus Castle. You'll see a person named Valentina walk out and state that the King is gravely ill. Then, she introduces "Prince Mallow" to the crowd. The Prince turns out to be the giant bird, Dodo. After Valentina is done and her and the Prince walk back into the castle, go to the Tool Shop to the left. Buy the Fuzzy Shirt and Mega Glove for Mario, the Fuzzy Pants and Sticky Glove for Mallow, the Fuzzy Cape and Hand Cannon for Geno, and the Fuzzy Dress and War Fan for the Princess. Now, leave the shop and go down and left to the Inn. Go inside and stay the night, then when you wake up, save your game at the Save Point, then leave the Inn. Next, go left, then up and right to Garro's studio and go inside. Go up to the statue that looks like Mallow and press A and Mallow will say that it's him. Then, Garro will turn around and say that it's King Nimbus when he was young, and then he'll freak out because he doesn't know what's going on. Mallow introduces himself, and then Garro realizes that he's the REAL Prince Mallow! Next, Mallow will run out of the studio and try to get into the castle, but the guards kick him out. After he's done, talk to Garro again and he'll make Mario look just like a statue, then he brings Mario and another one of his statues to the castle. The guards think that Mario is an intruder, but Garro lies and says that it's Valentina's nephew! Next, when he gets into the castle, Valentina stops him and he drops off the statues and he's stopped by her again. He tells Valentina that the Mario statue is a new masterpiece he created just for her. Then, Garro leaves and Valentina calls Dodo into the room and he brings the statues into a side room with other statues of Valentina. Now, go left and into the next room and save the game. Now, open the door as if you're going into the next room and you'll hear Valentina telling Dodo to go polish the statues. That causes Mario to run back to the statue room and stay still on the pedestal. When Dodo comes in, you have 2 choices; either you jump whenever he tries to peck you, or just let him peck you. If you want to get some Exp. Points, let Dodo peck you 3 times, then he'll return and the battle will start. If you have to fight, just use timed regular attacks because he's definitely not that strong, and it's not worth putting him in the Boss section because he's too simple! If you don't want to fight him, just jump whenever he pecks at you. Eventually he'll go away; that's when you go into the next room and find a Feather on the floor. Now, save your game and go left into the next room. Turn right and go through the door to the next room. In that room, go down the hallway and into the following room. Hit the chest to get a Recovery Mushroom, then go to the next room. In this room, go left all the way to the other end of the room and go through the last door. Go down the hallways and into the next room, and then go down the steps. Fight the Jawful standing by the wall because it's hard to get around him quick enough. Beat him, then enter the next room and talk to all the people there. One of the people will give you a Flower Jar. Now, talk to the guy to the left of the door. He'll tell you that he used to be a guard in the castle. When he asks if you want a key, say yes and he'll give you Castle Key 1. Now, save your game if you want, then leave the room and head up the stairs and left to the following room. Get through this room, then in the next room, go right and defeat the Heavy Troopa in front of the middle door. Use the castle key you have to unlock the door and go to the next room where you'll find a giant egg and the Shy Away again. The Shy Away will see you, then try to flee, but the door he tries is locked! Now, go up to the egg and talk to it and agree to "play" with it. You'll enter a battle against Birdo; read the Boss Strategies section as always to find out how to beat her. After you beat Birdo, take the Castle Key 2 that comes out of the egg and use it to unlock the door in the back of the room. In the next room, defeat the Pinwheel (fan) so you don't get blown off the ledge, then try not to get hit by the Jawful when it pokes its weapon out at you and enter the next room. In the next room, go up to the door on the left and read the note right next to it; it'll say that King Nimbus is resting in that room. Bowser will decide that he should break down the door, but Mallow stops him at the last second saying that if King Nimbus is really in that room resting that they shouldn't make noise by breaking down the door. Next, the Shy Away flies down the hallway and stops and looks at Mario. Then, he'll continue down the hallway. Follow him into the next room and defeat the Heavy Troopa in front of the door. Then, enter the throne room. You'll find Valentina with Dodo by her side, and then the Shy Away comes in and tells her that Mario has arrived. She doesn't know what a Mario is, so he describes him for her, then she realizes that it's the statue that Garro brought in earlier today. Then, Mario comes forward and Mallow says that he's the real Prince. Valentina gets upset and leave through a back exit, and then the Shy Away and Dodo follow her. Now, follow them all into the next room. Save your game, then try and avoid the Bluebirds there if you can and enter the following room. In this room, avoid a couple more Bluebirds, and then stand under the chest and jump up to reveal a hidden platform. Jump onto the platform, then hit the chest to get the Super Star. Drop off the platform and run right and up, defeating the Bluebirds along the way and run into the next room. Run ahead, defeating the couple of Bluebirds there and try and hit Dodo while he's waddling away if you have time. If you run out of time and have to fight him, just beat him like you did in the statue room by hitting him with a bunch of regular timed attacks until he leaves. Now, continue down the hallways and go through the doorway to the next room. You'll end up outside and fall out of Nimbus Castle and through the clouds below. You'll fall through the clouds until you reach the bottom cloud where the 2 guards are blocking a path to the hot springs. Jump onto the trampoline, then make sure that you have Bowser in the 2nd spot of your lineup and the Princess in your third, then jump onto the smiley face trampoline to reach Nimbus Land again. Valentina will run towards the castle, but a bunch of people will stop her and ask her stuff, making her upset. Then, Mario will show up and run up to Valentina and a fight will start. To find out how to beat Valentina and Dodo (when he shows up), read the Boss Strategies section. After you beat them, they'll drop a key out of the sky and Mallow will take it and run into the castle and unlock the door where King Nimbus was "resting". It'll start to pour outside because Mallow's crying, and then the rain stops and signals Mario to come in. In the throne room, King and Queen Nimbus will meet everyone in your group. They'll tell you that a star piece fell into the nearby Barrel Volcano. Then, after you can take control again, leave the throne room and go down the hall to the room where the door was locked and go inside. Talk to the guy that gave you Castle Key 1 earlier in the stage and he'll tell you that he got his job back as a guard. He'll give you a Flower Jar this time. Now, leave the room and proceed down the hallway and make your way out of the castle. Once you're outside, go right and into the house there. You'll find Croco inside the house. Go up to him and talk to him and he'll run out and drop the Signal Ring. Pick up the ring and equip it on someone; when it's equipped, you can hear a tone when you're in a room with a hidden chest! Now, leave the house and walk along the edge of the clouds to the right. You'll walk out into thin air at one point; walk up to the Shy Away and he'll give you the Fertilizer, then fly away. Next, get to the lower-left corner of the room and go to the Inn. Save your game, then exit the Inn and drop down the hole to the right out of Nimbus Land. Before you head to the springs and into Barrel Volcano, jump onto the lower right trampoline to exit the area and head to Rose Town. *** Rose Town *** When you enter Rose Town head straight to the back end of town and you'll find a new path located behind the Item Shop. Take the path to a house; enter the house and talk to the old gardener. While you talk to him, you'll give him the Seed and Fertilizer, making him become VERY excited! Then, he'll plant the 2 items into the giant pot on the table and a beanstalk will grow out of it. Jump onto the table, then onto the beanstalk and climb it out of the house and into the clouds. There, hit the 2 chests to receive the Lazy Shell Armor and Lazy Shell Weapon! Equip the Lazy Shell Weapon on Mario right away; it's his best weapon in the game! Also, equip the Lazy Shell Armor on the if you want. Now, climb back down the stalk and exit the area, then go down and leave Rose Town. Now, head back to Nimbus Land to start your journey to the volcano. *** Nimbus Land *** When you arrive in Nimbus Land again, drop down the hole that's straight up from the exit trampoline. Talk to the guards there; they'll now allow you to pass because they realize that Mallow is the real Prince. Go in the Hot Springs if you want to restore your HP/FP, then go right and walk off the edge of the cloud; you'll fall right into the Barrel Volcano! *** Barrel Volcano *** Since this area is quite long, but straightforward, I'm not going to be giving a room by room walkthrough on this stage because it'll be a waste of time! Instead, I'll only get detailed in areas where you can get items or do other things. From the start, go down into the next room; in this room, you'll see a bunch of small platforms in the lava. Carefully jump across them to the ledge to the right and enter the next room. Hit the 2 chests there to get 2 Flowers, then leave the room and jump back across the platforms and jump up the steps and head to the next room. When you reach a room with a chest by the entrance, hit the chest to get its item, then continue on and hit the next chest to get what it contains. Take the path to the next room and hit the chest there to get a Super Star! Now, run through this room and defeat the fireball enemies, then enter the next room and defeat a couple of Oerlikons (spiky-shelled enemies). Then, jump to the higher ledge and defeat the Corkpedite while you're invincible. Continue through the level until you reach a room where you see a Frog Coin in the lava. To get it, just hold Y and jump right to it; it might take a couple tries to do. In the following room, get to the end right by the arch. You'll see a Frog Coin on top of the high arch and you can't reach it by jumping. To get it, enter the next room, then go back to this room, and then jump into the lava. It'll send Mario so high that he'll reach the arch, allowing you to reach the Frog Coin! In the next room, jump onto the donut ledges, then jump to reach the Frog Coin in mid-air. Continue through this room and jump onto the next donut ledge you see. Then, jump to reach the other Frog Coin in the air, then continue to the next room. Now, get through the lower part of this room and get into the following room; in that room, save your game at the Save Point, then take the path to the upper part of the other room. Defeat the Stumpet sitting there, then take the path to the next room. Continue through that room and in the next room, you'll see another Stumpet. Defeat that one and any other enemies there if you want the Exp. Points, then continue on to the next room. Continue through the next room until you reach the mushroom guy, Hinopio, standing there. Talk to him and he'll bring you into his Hino Mart. At the 1st counter, stock up on the necessary items if you need to. At the next counter, stay and rest at his Inn (you're in for a treat now!). Then at the last counter, buy the Fire Shirt for Mario, the Fire Pants for Mallow, the Fire Cape for Geno, the Fire Shell for Bowser, and the Fire Dress for the Princess. Now, leave the shop and save your game in the next room, then make sure that Mallow is in your party. In the following room, jump across the donut bridge above the lava to the other side, then enter the next room. In this room, you'll have to fight the Czar Dragon and Zombone. Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat them. After they're done, go back a couple rooms and save your game and rest at Hinopio's Inn if you need to, then continue through the next couple rooms. Go across the bridge that appeared after you beat the Czar Dragon. In the next room, you'll find the star; as Mario is about to claim it, it disappears! The Axem Rangers will appear, take the star, and run. Jump up the ledges to the next room. The Axem Rangers will spot you, then disappear again. Now, jump up the ledges to the next area and just climb up all the ledges until you reach the very end. Before you jump on the trampoline at the end, make sure that Mallow and the Princess are in your party, then jump on it. You'll end up outside the volcano with the Axem Rangers. Then, the giant, flying thing, Blade, will appear and the rangers will jump aboard. Then, Mario will jump on, starting a fight! Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat them. After you beat them, you'll get the 6th star piece! Now, head back to Nimbus Land. *** Nimbus Land *** When you return to Nimbus Land, jump on the smiley face trampoline and head straight into the castle. Make your way through the castle all the way to the throne room. Once there, Mallow will tell King and Queen Nimbus that the group has the 6th star. Then, they say that the last place to look for the final star is inside Bowser's Keep! Then, the King and Queen allow you to use the Royal Bus to get to the keep. After that, leave the castle and before going to the bus, drop down the hole and take the other trampoline out of Nimbus Land and head to Moleville. *** Moleville *** In Moleville, head to the Tool Shop and talk to the mushroom guy there and he'll try and sell you a few different items. When he offers you Item #3: Metal Plate, buy it from him for 300 Coins. Equip that item on the Princess as her best weapon in the game! Now, leave the shop and exit Moleville and go back up to Nimbus Land. *** Nimbus Land *** Like before, jump on the smiley face trampoline and go up and left towards Garro's house. Pass the house and take the path left to the other area. Talk to the guy there and the Royal Bus will pull in and Mario and Mallow will get on. The bus will then ride away and head to Bowser's Keep for the last stages of the game! *** Bowser's Keep *** When you enter Bowser's Keep, you should put Bowser in your fighting lineup immediately because whenever he's present in a battle against most of the enemies here, they run away! Now, get through the first couple rooms while either avoiding or fighting the Terra Cottas, and then enter the 3rd room. Run across the first bridge and fight or beat the Gu Goombas, then jump across the 2nd donut bridge and enter the next room. Here, just run straight through while avoiding or fighting the enemies here, then head to the next room. The next room is dark, but there aren't any really strong enemies in here except the Gu Goombas and the Malakoopas. Follow the path until it splits; when it splits take the left path and hit the chest to get a Recovery Mushroom. Now, continue down the right path and go through the door to the next room. In the next room, save your game and talk to Croco and buy some last-minute supplies if you need them, then go to the next room. In this room, there are 6 doors, each with its own challenge. There are 2 Puzzle Courses, 2 Fighting Courses, and 2 Action Courses. You MUST get through 4 of the 6 courses to continue through the castle. Also, the courses you encounter behind each door are random, so you'll never get the same course from the same door every time. Since this is quite a large area, I'll be more descriptive of this part in the Mini-Games section because it is actually a type of mini-game. After you get through this area, save your game again in the following room. Now, go into the next room and Magikoopa will appear and fight you. To find out how to beat him, read the Boss Strategies section of this guide. After you beat him, he'll become "good" again and create a golden treasure box, which has an endless supply of coins inside. After you're done stocking up on coins, go through the left door and you'll meet Croco again. Talk to him and buy the Hero Shirt for Mario, the Prince Pants for Mallow, the Star Cape for Geno, the Heal Shell for Bowser, and the Royal Dress for the Princess. Now, leave the room and go through the right door to the next room. In this room, go straight while avoiding the Thwomps that fall from the ceiling and the bullets that fly towards you to avoid battle. After you get through this room, go through the next room and you'll see the 2 chandeliers again. Mario will jump aboard one of the chandeliers and engage in battle against Boomer. Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat him. After Boomer takes a dive, the Chandeli-Ho will bring Mario and his group up to the roof of Bowser's Keep. At the top, you'll land on the roof and get to fight Exor, the giant sword! Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat him as well. After Exor is beat, you'll be swallowed inside the sword to reach the Gate between the 2 worlds. *** Gate *** When you land at the beginning of the Gate, Bowser will stop the group and say that he won't go any further now that they beat Exor. Geno then persuades him to stay in the group for the last leg of the journey. When you can take control again, just go straight to the next room. In this room, go right and up and jump on the bolt to make it move. Keep jumping on it to make it go all the way to the other ledge, then get off and head to the next room. In the next room, save your game at the Save Point, then simply take the path to the right of the block to the following room. Here, jump onto the bolt and jump repeatedly to reach the other side. When you reach the ledge, continue straight onto the next bolt and get to the next ledge while avoiding the Glum Reapers flying around and the Ameboids on the ledges. Next, go down and right and jump on the next bolt repeatedly to reach the other side, then head to the next room. In this room, go up to the green ! switch on the floor and jump on it to make a path open in the upper- right corner of the room while trying to avoid the Ameboids (unless you want to fight them). Take the path to the next room and save in that room, then continue onward to the following room. In the next room, hit the chest to get the Ultra Hammer if you want (if you get it and Mario has the Lazy Shell weapon, DON'T equip the hammer!), then jump on the trampoline to land on the bolt. Jump on the bolt to move along, then jump onto the next one when you get close enough; jump on that on until you reach the ledge, then get off and jump on the trampoline to the room below. In this room, you'll see a giant alarm clock, but before you approach it, make sure that Mallow and the Princess are in your party if they aren't already. Now, walk up to the clock and the Ding-A- Lings on top will ring and a battle will start against Countdown and the Ding-A-Lings. Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat them. After you beat them, jump on the trampoline to the next room; when you land in the next room, just go up to the next room. In that room, go right and up and jump onto the conveyor belt and try and avoid the Machine Made Axem Rangers and get to the top conveyor and hit the chest to get its contents. Now, go back down to the lower conveyor and drop down to it, but this time walk under the higher conveyor belt and get onto the square platform. Ride it to the other square platform and jump onto that one and ride it to the other side. Get off at that point and jump onto the conveyor belt above you and try to avoid the Machine Made Axem Rangers, then continue up and to the next room. In the next room, you'll see conveyor belts to the left with Machine Made enemies coming off them. When you try and run past the belt, arrows will fall and you'll be stunned long enough to have to fight whatever is coming off that belt! Now, make your way through this room as quickly as you can so you don't get stunned, then take the path to the next room. Go through the next room and fight the Li'l Boos floating around if you want, then continue to the square platform. Get on the platform, then get off at the other side and continue through the room to the end, then enter the next room. In this room, make your way up the conveyor belt stairs; along the way, you will more than fight a Machine Made Bowyer. Defeat it, then continue to the top and head up and left. Try and jump over the Machine Made Axem Rangers as you get through the zigzagging path. Then, go up some more conveyor belt steps to the top, then head to the following room. Here, save your game and make sure that your group is fully healed, then take the path to the next room. Stand on the block in the middle of the room and wait for a Machine Made Yaridovich to fall on you. Defeat it, then the block will break, revealing a hole. Drop down into the hole and you'll enter a fight with Domino and Cloaker. Read the Boss Strategies section of the guide to find out how to beat them. After they're beat and you end up in a new room, take the path to the left into the factory area. Go straight and you'll run into the Clerk, the first of 4 enemies before the final encounter with Smithy. Defeat the Clerk and his minions then continue up the path and Toad will stop you. He'll find out the Princess is with you, then he'll give you a Rock Candy! Then, buy some supplies from him and continue up to the next room. Keep going until you reach the Manager; defeat him and his minions, then continue to the next room. In this room, go straight until you meet the Director. Fight and defeat him and continue to the Save Point. Save there, then continue to the next room. Go straight and you'll meet the Factory Chief and Gunyolk and you'll have to fight them. Read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat them. After they're done, go back a room and save your game there. Then, go to the room you were just in. Make sure that Bowser and the Princess are in your group and that you're all AT LEAST up to Level 25-27, then jump on the green ! switch in the center of the room. A crane will come and grab you, and then you'll automatically jump down one of the giant pipes to Smithy's Lair. The group will demand that he gives back the final star, but he suggests that you give him all your stars. Then, the group will jump in and into the final battles with Smithy. As always, read the Boss Strategies section to find out how to beat him in both phases of the battle. The easiest way to fight them is to concentrate on one of them at a time. You shouldn't worry about their attacks, either, because they don't present a real threat to you for they only take a small amount of HP away from you. Defeat the first Bro by using a timed Jump attack, then a timed regular attack. The remaining brother will then use Valor Up to make his defenses stronger. To beat this brother, do 2 timed Jump attacks, then keep doing timed regular attacks until he's defeated. Croco (1st Fight) HP: 320 Strengths: Sleep Weaknesses: Fire Thoughts: "Gosh, I'm good!" To defeat Croco, have Mario cast Fire Orb, and have Mallow defend, heal, or use Honey Syrup when the FP runs low and Mario can't cast Fire Orb anymore. When Croco has under 100 HP left, he'll use a Weird Mushroom to recover some of his HP. Just keep pummeling him with Fire Orb attacks until he gives the coin back and runs away for good. Mack HP: 480 Strengths: Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: Thunder Thoughts: "Boing, boing, boing." To defeat Mack, have Mario use timed regular attacks on Mack, while Mallow uses timed Thunderbolt attacks on the whole group. About halfway through the fight, he'll steal all your items, making it harder for you. Keep on pummeling him with attacks until he gives you the items back then runs away! Punchinello HP: 1200 Strengths: Jump, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: N/A Thoughts: "Yeeha! I see we're already famous!" Punchinello isn't really too hard to defeat because he hardly ever attacks, but he has a bunch of bombs come into battle to explode at will, causing some damage to whoever they hit. You should also be at least up to Level 7 or 8 before fighting him. To beat Punchinello, have Mario do timed regular attacks, Geno do timed regular attacks or use Geno Boost, and have Mallow cast Thunderbolt to hit all the bombs and Punchinello. After he's down to about 800 HP, he'll call out regular sized Bob-ombs to help him. Keep attacking like before until he's down to about 400 HP. Then, he'll make larger Mezzo Bombs come to fight. Keep on attacking Punchinello until he has no more HP, then he'll make a giant bomb come, crushing him. The bomb will then explode, ending the battle. Booster/ Snifit (x3) HP: 800/ 200 Strengths: Sleep/ N/A Weaknesses: Jump/ Ice Thoughts: "This is like realizing you're outside without your clothes on!"/ "Minimum wage for THIS?!" This is an optional fight because you don't HAVE to fight him to continue through the game. You first fight his 3 Snifits. Fight them one at a time by having Mario, Bowser, and Geno using timed regular attacks until they're all gone. Then, Booster will start to fight you! Have Mario do a bunch of timed Super Jumps on him while the others just attack or cure if needed and he'll be finished in no time! Grate Guy/ Knife Guy HP: 900/ 700 Strengths: Fire, Sleep/ Thunder, and Sleep Weaknesses: Thunder/ Fire Thoughts: "Peace is just a dream."/ "Happiness is hip!" When you're fighting these guys, you should concentrate on one at a time. Have Mario use his timed regular attack, Bowser use timed regular attacks, and Mallow cast Thunderbolt to hurt Grate Guy, or heal if needed. After a few turns, Knife Guy will stand on Grate Guy's head and attack from there. Now, keep on attacking and they'll drop down to the ground and one of them will disappear if you hurt that guy enough. Keep on attacking the remaining guy until he's defeated. Bundt/ Raspberry HP: 900/ 600 Strengths: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, and Sleep Weaknesses: Jump Thoughts: "Congratulations!" You should be at around level 9 before fighting this boss. The battle starts with the 2 chefs and the cake. While the chefs cause minimal damage with their attacks, concentrate on the cake with Mario, Geno, and Bowser. After a few rounds of attacks, the cake will start moving and the chefs will get scared and run away. Now, the cake's 5 candles will light up and the real battle will start! Each time you harm Bundt, a candle blows out; each time Bundt harms you, a candle is re-lit. Keep attacking Bundt as much as you can with timed regular and Jump attacks until all the candles are out and Bundt disappears, leaving Raspberry. Keep pummeling Raspberry with Super Jumps and regular timed attacks from everyone until the Snifits and Booster appear again. The Snifits will feed Booster the cake and that will end the battle. King Calamari HP: 800 Strengths: Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: Fire Thoughts: "The ship's MINE! SCRAM!" In this fight, you'll have to fight 2 sets of 3 tentacles, then Calamari and 2 tentacles. Have Mario cast Super Flame, have Geno cast Geno Boost on the party, and the Princess attack or heal. The tentacles will pull someone out of your group, then cause them to be scared, lowering your stats. The Princess's Group Hug or Therapy could fix that so you shouldn't worry at all about their attacks. When you reach King Calamari, Have Mario cast Super Flame on him and Geno either cast Geno Boost on Mario or attack. Since you've cast Geno Boost on Mario enough times, it'll make his Super Flame A LOT stronger, weakening and eventually defeating Calamari much quicker! Jonathan Jones HP: 820 Strengths: Sleep Weaknesses: N/A Thoughts: "Whoa! It's all over." Fighting Jonathan Jones and his minions is really easy if you're at around level 12 or 13 and you know the way to win without breaking a sweat! First, have Mario either do timed regular attacks or cast Super Flame on Johnny, while Bowser and the Princess concentrate on fighting the 4 minions. Have Bowser and the Princess defeat all but one of the minions; it prevents the 1-on-1 battle between Mario and Johnny from happening later in the battle! Now, have the whole party concentrate only on Jonathan and just ignore the one minion. Keep attacking until Jonathan is defeated and his shark minion disappears. Yaridovich/ Yaridovich (Mirage) HP: 1500/ 500 Strengths: Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence/ Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: Thunder/ Thunder Thoughts: "My promotion's at stake!"/ "I'm not the real McCoy!" When you enter this battle, you should have Mallow in your party because his thunder attacks are really good against Yaridovich. Have Mario do timed regular attacks, Mallow do timed Shocker attacks, and the Princess heal because his attacks take lots of HP away from the party! Keep attacking Yaridovich and eventually he'll create a mirage and split into two. You can find out which one is fake with the Psychopath move because the fake one's thoughts are different and it only has 500 HP. Once you find out who's fake, continue your attacks on the real Yaridovich. Keep attacking until his mirage disappears and you defeat him! Belome (2nd Fight) HP: 1200 Strengths: Sleep Weaknesses: Thunder Thoughts: "Gotta yummy in my tummy!" When you fight Belome again in Belome's Temple, he's got a lot more HP and a new bunch of moves. He could eat someone from your party, spits them out, then create a clone of them, which attacks you! Have Mario use timed regular attacks, Mallow cast Shocker and the Princess attack or heal. When Belome makes clones of your guys, either fight them or just concentrate on Belome. I don't think you should fight the clones, though, because their attacks don't take too much damage. Keep attacking Belome until he disappears again, then defeat any clones that are there and the battle will be over! Jinx (1st Fight) HP: 600 Strengths: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: N/A Thoughts: "You're just a beginner!" The first fight with Jinx isn't that hard because he doesn’t have any really strong attacks to watch out for yet! To beat him, have Mario hit him with the Lazy Shell, Bowser hit him with timed regular attacks, and the Princess should attack or heal if anyone is badly injured. About halfway into the fight, Jinx will use Valor Up to raise his defenses. Just continue to hit him with timed attacks until you beat him. Jinx (2nd Fight) HP: 800 Strengths: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: N/A Thoughts: "Sympathy!? Not from me!" In the second fight against Jinx, it tends to be a bit harder than the first match was. The reason for that is because he has 2 new moves: Quicksilver, which is a strong attack, and Silver Bullet, which is pretty much a "kill-upon-impact" attack if you don't try and block it just as it hits! Also, he has 200 more HP, so the battle might take a little longer to win. Beat him by having Mario and Bowser do timed regular attacks and the Princess should heal. When he does the Valor Up thing again, just keep on attacking until you win! Jinx (3rd Fight) HP: 1000 Strengths: Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: N/A Thoughts: "Ooh! I'm gonna hurt ya!" Now, this is a REAL fight! Jinx has all the moves he had in the 2nd fight, plus another one: Bombs Away, which can take HUNDREDS of HP away at once, wiping out that character! To beat him this time, have Mario and Bowser use timed regular attacks like before while the Princess heals the group. When Jinx does his Valor Up, it really gets annoying to fight him because your attacks don't do as much and he has 1000 HP this time! Just keep on pummeling him with Mario's Lazy Shell and Bowser's weapon until Jinx is defeated once and for all! Culex/Earth Crystal/Fire Crystal/Water Crystal/Wind Crystal HP: Culex - 4096 Earth Crystal - 3200 Fire Crystal - 2500 Water Crystal - 1800 Wind Crystal - 800 Strengths: Culex - Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Earth Crystal - Jump, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Fire Crystal - Fire, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Water Crystal - Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Wind Crystal - Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: Culex - N/A Earth Crystal - Thunder Fire Crystal - Ice Water Crystal - Fire Wind Crystal - Jump Thoughts: Culex - "A little off, eh?" Earth Crystal - "I hate being awakened!" Fire Crystal - "I gotta vacuum tonight!" Water Crystal - "Get me back underground!" Wind Crystal - "Whhhhhhooooo..." In my opinion, this is the hardest fight in the game! I STRONGLY recommend that you're at least Level 25-27 before even trying to fight Culex. You have to fight and beat Culex, but you have to put up with his 4 crystals, each with strong attacks, too. The best way I found to win is to wipe out the crystals first, then go for Culex. You should have Mallow in your party when you enter this battle. Your first target should be the Earth Crystal. Destroy it by having Mario use regular timed attacks, Mallow using the Shocker special, and the Princess should heal. After you destroy this crystal, you should then focus your attacks on the Fire Crystal. Destroy it by having Mario use his regular timed attacks, Mallow use the Snowy special and the Princess should heal. When the Fire Crystal is destroyed, you should go for the Water Crystal. Destroy this crystal by having Mario do his regular timed attacks again, Mallow attacking it with regular timed attacks, and the Princess should still be healing the group. When you beat that crystal, you should then attack and destroy the last crystal, which is the Wind Crystal. It has the least amount of HP out of the crystals, but it has high defense, so it might take a little more time to beat it quickly. To beat it, have Mario use his regular timed attacks or Ultra Jumps, Mallow use regular timed attacks, and the Princess should heal. When you finally destroy the crystal, you should go for Culex. Now that he's alone, Culex is EASY because he doesn't have any real attacks. Defeat him by having Mario, Mallow, and the Princess use regular timed attacks until he's defeated. When you beat him, you get the Quartz Charm accessory. Megasmilax/ Smilax HP: 1000/ 200 Strengths: Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence/ Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: Ice/ Ice Thoughts: "I was a water baby!"/ "Turn your eyes!" When you enter this battle, you'll fight against a single Smilax. Beat it with timed regular attacks from Mario, Mallow, and the Princess. After you beat it, the Shy Away will water the plant and you'll have to fight 2 Smilaxes. Beat them quickly by using Mallow's Snowy special. When they're gone, Shy Away will return and water it again, making you fight 3 Smilaxes together! Beat them with another Snowy attack and the Shy Away will fly over again and water it. Now, 2 Smilaxes and the Megasmilax will grow from the plant! Now, you should have your attacks directed towards the Megasmilax. Have Mallow cast Snowy, Mario do timed regular attacks, and the Princess attack or heal when needed. Keep attacking the Megasmilax and Smilaxes until they're all defeated. Birdo/ Shelly HP: 777/ 500 Strengths: Fire, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence/ Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: N/A/ N/A Thoughts: "I just love life!"/ "Slow down!" When you enter this fight, you'll first have to fight Shelly. It doesn't fight you so it's a breeze destroying it. Just use regular attacks on the shell until it cracks open and Birdo appears. Now, have Mario, Bowser, and the Princess use timed regular attacks on Birdo. When Birdo starts to shoot a single egg at you at a time, have 2 out of 3 of your guys defend while the other attacks. If the single egg hits one of the guys that were defending, it'll bounce back and land in front of Birdo. Now, resume your attacks and have someone hit the egg with an attack so it explodes, causing 80 HP of damage to Birdo! Just keep attacking until Birdo is defeated. Valentina/ Dodo HP: 2000/ 800 Strengths: Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence/ Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: N/A/ Fire Thoughts: "I tell ya, he's NOTHING!"/ "I'm starved...later!" At the start of this battle, Dodo will come grab the middle character in your lineup and bring them to another area to fight that person. That person should be Bowser if you read the walkthrough part right before this boss. Have Bowser just do timed regular attacks on Dodo. After you beat Dodo, he'll fly back to Valentina and you'll see the battle with Valentina, Mario, and the Princess. Have Mario use timed regular attacks while the Princess attacks or heals when needed. After a couple rounds of battle, Bowser will return, making it a 3-on-2 fight! Just keep attacking Valentina and ignore Dodo because beating him here doesn't help much except that he won't attack if you beat him again. Keep on fighting until Valentina and Dodo fly away, defeated. Czar Dragon/ Zombone HP: 1400/ 1800 Strengths: Fire, Sleep/ Fire, Ice, Fear, Poison, and Sleep Weaknesses: Ice/ Jump, Thunder Thoughts: "Flamin' hot, right at ya!"/ "Hey! We're not done yet!" When you enter this battle, you should definitely have Mallow in your party because his specials do help a lot. Beat the Czar Dragon by having Mario do timed regular attacks, Mallow use his Snowy special, and the Princess should heal or attack. When you wipe out its HP, the Czar Dragon will sink into the lava and Zombone will emerge. To beat Zombone, have Mario use the timed regular attacks, Mallow should use the Shocker special, and the Princess should heal. Keep attacking Zombone until it sinks into the lava for good. Axem Black/ Green/ Pink/ Red/ Yellow/ Axem Rangers HP: Black - 550 Green - 450 Pink - 400 Red - 800 Yellow - 600 Axem Rangers - 999 Strengths: Black - Fear, Sleep Green - Sleep, Silence Pink - Ice, Sleep, Silence Red - Fire, Fear, Sleep Yellow - Thunder, Poison, Sleep Axem Rangers - Fear, Poison, Sleep, Silence Weaknesses: Black - Thunder Green - Ice Pink - Fire Red - Ice Yellow - Jump Axem Rangers - Thunder Thoughts: Black - "You're timing stinks!" Green - "Are we done here?" Pink - "Red, WRONG POSITION!" Red - "I'm all thumbs today!" Yellow - "We're lookin' GOOD!" Axem Rangers - "It's a melee!" The Axem Rangers aren't really too hard to beat if your party consists of Mario, Mallow, and the Princess. Your first target is Axem Pink because she heals the rest of the rangers, plus she's the weakest of all. Just have Mario and Mallow use a timed regular attack, while the Princess attacks or heals when the other rangers attack you. After Pink is beat, you should then go for Axem Green. Have Mario use a timed regular attack and have Mallow use his Snowy special because Green as well as Red are weak against ice and it inflicts damage on the entire group. After Green is done, you should go after Axem Black. Beat Axem Black by having Mario do his regular timed attack, Mallow use Shocker and the Princess heals. After you beat Black, you should go for Axem Yellow. This time, have Mario either do a regular attack or use his Super Jumps on Yellow while Mallow attacks and the Princess heals. When Yellow is defeated, you should now fight their leader, Axem Red! Beat him by having Mario attack, Mallow attack or use his Snowy special, and the Princess heal. When Red is finally beat, he'll retreat to the giant head thing in the back (Axem Rangers) which shoots the powerful Breaker Beam attack at your group. Beat this last part by having Mario do regular timed attacks, Mallow use his Shocker special, and the Princess should heal the party whenever the Breaker Beam hits. Keep attacking until it disappears and the Axem Rangers give up the star and sink into the lava! Magikoopa HP: 1600 Strengths: Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: N/A Thoughts: "That's... my child?" Magikoopa is fairly easy because he doesn't really attack; he just summons other creatures to shield him from attack and fight for him. To beat him, just have Mario, Bowser, and the Princess use timed regular attacks on him. When he summons another enemy into battle, defeat that enemy first because it blocks you from even reaching Magikoopa. After that enemy is gone, keep attacking Magikoopa until he's defeated. Boomer HP: 2000 Strengths: Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: N/A Thoughts: "It's all over now..." You'll fight Boomer on top of the chandeliers just like when you fought Bowser at the beginning of the game. To beat Boomer, have Mario and Bowser use timed regular attacks while the Princess heals. About halfway through the fight, Boomer will use Vigor Up to lower his defense and raise another of his stats. With his defense lowered, keep pummeling him with regular timed attacks and eventually he'll be defeated. Exor/ Left Eye/ Right Eye/ Neosquid HP: Exor - 1800 Left Eye - 300 Right Eye - 500 Neosquid - 800 Strengths: Exor - Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Left Eye - Thunder, Sleep Right Eye - Thunder, Sleep Neosquid - Sleep Weaknesses: Exor - N/A Left Eye - Jump, Fire Right Eye - Jump, Fire Neosquid - N/A Thoughts: Exor - "Gotta mow the lawn soon." Left Eye - "I can't see a thing!" Right Eye - "I've got an astigmatism!" Neosquid - "I'm so utterly alone..." Now, you'll have to fight the giant sword atop Bowser's Keep and defeat it! Your main target is Exor, but its defenses, Left Eye, Right Eye, and Neosquid prevent it from taking any damage. First, have Mario and Bowser take out its eyes while the Princess heals. After you send the eyes into a daze for a while, concentrate on Exor. Have Mario and Bowser use timed regular attacks on it while the Princess keeps the party going. After a few turns when the eyes come back, Exor will stop taking damage, so you'll have to attack the eyes again. Attack them, then when they're in a daze, attack Exor. Repeat this process until Exor is defeated and goes into indefinite submission! Countdown/ Ding-A-Ling (x2) HP: 2400/ 1200 Strengths: Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence/ Fear, Poison, and Silence Weaknesses: Jump, Thunder/ Ice Thoughts: "We're into overtime!"/ "Wake up sleepy heads!" When you fight this boss, it's good to have Mallow in your team because his specials are great against them. Your main target for now should be Countdown because it's best to get it out of the way first. To beat the clock, have Mario use his regular timed attack, have Mallow cast Shocker, and the Princess should heal the group whenever attacked. After you wipe out Countdown, you should go for the 2 Ding-A- Lings on top of the clock. You should focus your attacks on one bell at a time. Have Mario use his regular timed attacks, Mallow cast Snowy to hit them both, and the Princess should still heal. After you destroy one bell, go after the one just like the previous one. Keep using Snowy and Mario's regular attack until it's defeated. Domino/ Cloaker/ Mad Adder/ Earth Link HP: Domino - 900 Cloaker - 1200 Mad Adder - 1500 Earth Link - 2500 Strengths: Domino - Sleep, Silence Cloaker - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Mad Adder - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Earth Link - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: Domino - Fire Cloaker - N/A Mad Adder - N/A Earth Link - N/A Thoughts: Domino - "MAGIC! DEAL with it!" Cloaker - "I love cold hard steel!" Mad Adder - "I'm alive and kicking." Earth Link - "What a royal pain!" In this fight, there are 2 parts as well as 2 different ways you can enter the 2nd part of this battle. In the first part, you should focus on defeating Domino. To beat him, have Mario use regular timed attacks, Bowser use timed regular attacks, and the Princess should heal. After you defeat Domino, Cloaker will move back and the party will walk back with him to see him attach to the top of a giant snake, Earth Link. (If you chose to beat Cloaker first, you'll fight Mad Adder instead of Earth Link.) Now, you should only concentrate on defeating Earth Link. Beat the giant snake by having Mario and Mallow use their regular timed attacks while the Princess heals. Cloaker will attack you from the top of the Earth Link, but you should just ignore him. Keep attacking Earth Link until Cloaker disappears and Earth Link stops moving. Factory Chief/ Gunyolk HP: 1000/ 1500 Strengths: Thunder/ Fire Weaknesses: Thunder, Ice/ Thunder Thoughts: "Who DARES to fight ME?!"/ "If we're beaten, the boss is alone!" In this battle, you should concentrate on Gunyolk first before fighting the Factory Chief because it can use the Breaker Beam attack, plus some other mean moves. To beat Gunyolk, have Mario use his regular timed attacks or Ultra Flame, Bowser use his regular timed attack, and the Princess should keep the group alive. After you destroy Gunyolk, you should then go for the Factory Chief. Beat him by having Mario and Bowser use regular timed attacks while the Princess heals or attacks if the group is going okay. Just keep hitting the Factory Chief until he's defeated. Smithy/ Smelter/ Shyper (part 1) Smithy (Body/ Furnace Head/ Tank Head/ Toaster Head/ Treasure Head/ Wizard Head) (part 2) HP: Smithy - 2000 Smelter - 1500 Shyper - 400 Body - 1000 Furnace Head - 8000 Tank Head - 8000 Toaster Head - 8000 Treasure Head - 8000 Wizard Head - 8000 Strengths: Smithy - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Smelter - Fire, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Shyper - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Body - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Furnace Head - Jump, Fire, Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Tank Head - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Toaster Head - Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Treasure Head - Thunder, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Wizard Head - Fire, Thunder, Ice, Fear, Poison, Sleep, and Silence Weaknesses: Smithy - N/A Smelter - Thunder Shyper - N/A Body - N/A Furnace Head - Ice Tank Head - Thunder Toaster Head - N/A Treasure Head - Fire Wizard Head - N/A Thoughts: Smithy - "Eh?! Toaster Head - "This isn't good at all!" Treasure Head - "What's hidden inside?!" Wizard Head - "Good magic, bad defense." There are 2 parts in this fight against Smithy. In the first part, you have to fight Smithy and Smelter (you don't HAVE to fight Smelter if you don’t want to), as well as any Shypers that Smithy creates. To beat Smithy here, have Mario use his regular timed attack with the Lazy Shell weapon, Bowser use regular timed attacks with the Drill Claw weapon (if you have it), and the Princess should heal because Smithy has some strong attacks. After a while, Smelter will spit out a blob-like substance and Smithy will pound it into a Shyper that will attack you. Defeat the Shyper if you feel like it, then continue hitting Smithy. After you take Smithy's 2000 HP, you'll hear a loud crackling sound. A few of Smithy's flunkies will drop down and yell at him, then the place will shake. Finally, the floor will give way and the group as well as Smithy will fall down to a dark pit. Then, Smithy will transform into his real form and the 2nd part of this fight will begin. In the 2nd and final part of this battle, you have to defeat Smithy by attacking his many different heads. The total amount of HP for all the heads combined is 8000 HP, not 8000 HP for each separate head. You can also attack his Body; after you deplete its 1000 HP, it can't move for a few turns, making it so that Smithy can't change heads during that time. To beat Smithy, have Mario and Bowser use their regular timed attacks on the head while the Princess attacks the Body to try and disable it or just heal the party. Stick with using just regular attacks during this battle because it's just a waste of FP to use specials that the various heads are weak against. Keep on attacking the head until the Treasure Head eventually appears. At that point, Smithy shouldn't have much HP left, so just keep on attacking him until he blows up, leaving the last star behind! ********************************************************************* 8. Temple Key Game Description: It’s a Temple Key Info: You get this key in Monstro Town by talking to the Thwomp inside one of the rooms until the key falls to the ground outside that room. You feed it to Belome in Belome’s Temple and you’ll be able to get lots of goodies from the basement! Tenor Card Game Description: A membership card for the Juice Bar Info: You get this card from Toadofsky after playing the Monstro Town Melody on Melody Bay. With it, you get reduced prices AND you are allowed to buy any item from the Juice Bar! ********************************************************************* 9. Hidden Treasure Chest Locations 1. Mushroom Kingdom (Frog Coin) - Enter the Mushroom Castle for the very first time. When you meet Toad there, he'll start talking to you; wait until he finishes talking and starts to walk down the hall. Follow him and jump on his head. Ride above him until he pauses at the door, then jump onto the ledge above the door. There, just jump upward from there and take the Frog Coin from the chest. 2. Mushroom Kingdom (Flower) - Go into the Item shop in the Mushroom Kingdom, then go down the stairs inside. Talk to the mushroom person in the basement, and then jump when he tells you to reveal this chest. 3. Mushroom Kingdom (Flower) - (This may take a little while before you can get this!) While you're in the basement of the Item Shop, wait until the mushroom guy walks towards the corner closest to the bottom of the stairs. When he reaches the corner, jump on his head, then jump straight up while still in the corner to reveal the chest. 4. Bandit's Way (Kerokero Cola) - In the second area of Bandit's Way, where you have to jump on the spinning red flowers to jump onto the higher ledges, get to the exit of the area by another red flower. Jump onto the flower and wait until you're facing directly to the right, then jump to the right. You should hit the chest and take its contents in one shot! 5. Rose Town (Frog Coin) - In Rose Town, enter the Item Shop and get on top of the bookshelf against the back wall. Run to the corner while on the bookcase, and then jump up at the corner to reveal the chest. 6. Rose Town (Frog Coin) - Go to the house with the switch inside that makes the stairs outside appear and disappear, then go up to the second floor inside. Jump onto the bed and you'll bounce up, hitting the chest above you. 7. Forest Maze (Kerokero Cola) - When you're in the very first section of the Forest Maze, head to the left of the path to the next section. Jump up in the left corner of the section to make the chest appear. 8. Forest Maze (Frog Coin) - After you jump on the trampoline and exit the first underground section in the forest, go diagonally to the left of the stump you come out of. When you reach the corner, jump up to reveal the next chest. 9. Forest Maze (Kerokero Cola) - When you reach the section where there are 7 stumps, go down the lone stump at the very end. Get behind the sleeping Wiggler and jump straight up right behind him to reveal the chest. 10. Forest Maze (Flower) - In the area with the 7 stumps, enter the very first one in the right row. Walk diagonally down to the left and walk into the lighter area. Jump up in the middle of it to make the chest visible again! 11. Forest Maze (NOTHING!) - Back in the area with the 7 stumps, go down the second one in the left row. Go diagonally up towards the left to the smaller lighted area and stand so that you're slightly up and to the right of it. Jump up there and make the empty chest appear. 12. Forest Maze (Red Essence) - After you pass by the Save Block before you take the path to the next area, head to the right of the exit and jump around. You'll make the chest appear when you find the right spot! 13. Pipe Vault (Frog Coin) - In the section where there are six pipes in a row, each with a Piranha Plant coming out of then, go down the second one when it's clear. Walk a tiny bit down the path, and jump by the beginning of the higher ledge; a platform will appear! Jump up it, then onto the ledge. Now, it's time to start "counting" the tiles on the ledge! From the beginning of the ledge, count until you're on the 4th tile, then jump up to reveal the chest. 14. Pipe Vault (Frog Coin) - You'll have to follow the same procedure as the last hidden chest, but you'll have to go a bit further this time! From the beginning, count to the 8th tile, and then jump at that point to make this chest visible! 15. Yo'ster Isle (Frog Coin) - When you emerge out of the Pipe Vault, you should see a Save Block nearby. Jump over it to get behind it, then jump straight up back there to reveal the chest and take the yet ANOTHER Frog Coin inside! 16. Booster Pass (Flower) - From the very beginning of Booster Pass, head straight, then turn left when the path does. Jump onto the low ledge with the green plants on it, then continue and jump to the higher ledge. Get on top of the plant and jump up above it to reveal the chest. 17. Booster Pass (Rock Candy) - Continue up the first area of Booster Pass until you get up to the path to the next section. Jump onto the plant to the left of the path and jump straight up from it to reveal the chest containing the Rock Candy! 18. Booster Tower (Frog Coin) - In the section where an endless supply of Snifits come down the stairs, jump up while trying not to get attacked until you reach the top. Jump on the first dark green tile against the back wall to reveal the chest. 19. Booster Tower (Frog Coin) - Continue through the tower for a bit until you enter the room that you could only have accessed by jumping on the teeter-totter below with the Thwomp. There should be a few Snifits falling from the ceiling with parachutes in this room. Get through this room until you see a path going into the wall just to the side of the stairs. Go in as far as you can go, then jump up to open the chest. 20. Booster Tower (Goodie Bag) - When you reach the room with a Save Block and a couple ledges in the air, jump from the lowest ledge to the highest one, but DON'T jump onto the ledge with the chest above it yet! Instead, jump ONTO the visible chest, and then jump above it to make the other chest appear! 21. Booster Tower (Mushroom) - In the same room you found the last chest in, get to the other end of the room by the lowest ledge and the path to the next room. Stand on the lighter colored tile in the corner and jump to reveal the chest. 22. Marrymore (Frog Coin) - Enter the Marrymore Inn and check into the regular room, not the suite. When you're in the room, jump onto the dresser, then up to the top of the bookcase. Jump up from there to make this chest visible. 23. Sunken Ship (Flower) - Get to the room with a clone of Mario that mirrors your every move. Jump around diagonally down and to the right of the middle spotlight to make a block AND the chest appear! Now, walk and jump around so that you get the clone to the middle of the room below the chest. When he's there, jump on his head, then up to the chest! 24. Land's End (Flower) - In the very first section of Land's End, jump into the cannon and get yourself onto the yellow platform that moves up and down. Stand at the upper corner of the platform, then when it reaches its highest point, jump straight from the platform and you should reveal the chest. (You'll have to do this again to obtain the chest's contents!) 25. Land's End (Flower) - In the second section, jump into the cannon and shoot yourself out of it and land near (if not in!) the hole in the ground. Stand right in front of the hole in the direction of the cannon and jump up; a platform will appear. Drop back down the ledge towards the cannon, and jump into the cannon. Wait until it's aiming towards the platform you just revealed, then shoot yourself and land on it. When you do, it'll start moving; from there, jump to the top of the high ledge. Stand on the left side of the ledge and jump up at the edge to reveal the chest. 26. Land's End (Frog Coin) - In the section where you can jump up to the higher ledges via the spinning red flowers, or follow the right path and pass by blue flowers; take the right path. Jump onto the second blue flower you see then hold Y down and jump to the last blue flower. While you're in the air, you should hit the chest; just do the jump again to claim the coin inside! 27. Land's End (Frog Coin) - When you find and enter the cave in the cliff that leads to Kero Sewers, go through the first part of it until you see large steps you have to go down. In the small "alcove" where the Chow was, jump around in it until you hit the chest. 28. Belome's Temple (Frog Coin) - In the area of the temple after you pick your fortune, jump onto the ledge above the stairs going down. Jump to the highest ledge, and then walk towards the chest near the beginning of the room. Just jump onto the top of the chest, and then jump again to reveal the chest. 29. Belome's Temple (Frog Coin) - After you go down the stairs, you'll pass a corner on Mario's left side before you reach the other visible chest. Stand in that corner and jump straight up to make the invisible chest appear. 30. Monstro Town (Flower) - Enter the very last door in Monstro Town as if you're leaving it. In that small room with the note on the wall, jump behind the bush and jump again to reveal the chest. 31. Bean Valley (Frog Coin) - From the beginning of Bean Valley, enter the pipe to the right. When you emerge, head left and you'll see a path leading towards the hills down and to the left of the left pipe. Walk to the end of that path and jump there to reveal the chest. 32. Bean Valley (Kerokero Cola) - In the section where there are five pipes, each with a Piranha Plant inside, lead the Shy Away to the lower right pipe; after he waters the shriveled up plant, defeat the more lively Piranha! Go down that pipe and follow the path around the turn towards the chest. Count the tiles like you did back in the Pipe Vault, and then from right underneath the visible chest, walk down the corridor 5 or 6 tiles. Jump up when you stop and the chest should appear. 33. Bean Valley (Red Essence) - Back in the area with the five pipes, repeat the process with the Shy Away, but this time lure him to the rightmost pipe. Defeat that Piranha, and then go down the pipe and while staying against the "wall" to the right, head diagonally up and to the right towards the yellow stairs. When you reach the corner before you reach the stairs, jump up to make the chest appear! 34. Nimbus Land (Frog Coin) - When you get to Nimbus Land, enter the Item Shop. Jump up the boxes in the back of the room to the top, then hold Y and jump off the top box towards the shopkeeper. You should hit the chest in mid-air as you jump. 35. Nimbus Land (Frog Coin) - In Nimbus Castle, get to the hall with 3 doors. Go to the door to the left; you should see a birdcage near it. Stand behind the cage and jump straight up to find the chest. 36. Nimbus Land (Frog Coin) - Now, go through the left door and get through the next room. In the following room, go down the stairs until you reach the Jawful (enemy with the big fork). Defeat him, then stand where he used to be and jump; the chest will appear! 37. Nimbus Land (Frog Coin) - From the spot you jumped to reveal the last chest, turn around and walk right into the black area, which is empty space! Follow the path until it finally ends and you can't go anywhere else, and then jump up to reveal this chest with yet another Frog Coin! 38. Nimbus Land (Frog Coin) - After you defeat Birdo, go through the door in the back of the room. Go through the room, then when you're right next to it, jump onto the chest in the air to the right of Mario. Jump straight up while on the chest to make the chest above it appear with ANOTHER Frog Coin! 39. Smithy Factory (Mushroom) - Go through the Factory until you reach the second Save Block. Stand in the corner down and to the left of the block and jump in the corner to reveal the last chest in the game! ********************************************************************* 10. Mini-Games *** Midas River *** This mini-game is the most difficult one in my opinion because it's quite hard to get every single Coin while going down the river. In the first section of this curse, you're being sent down the river and you'll have to press B to try and swim upstream a little. There are 36 Coins total, including 4 Frog Coins in this area. Once you reach the bottom, you'll move on to the barrel jumping part of the course. There are 64 Coins total that you can accumulate in this area and you can only get them if you follow this pattern. From the start of the course, this is when you jump onto or hit the barrel in front of you: hit, jump, jump, hit, hit, jump, jump, hit, hit, jump, jump, hit, hit, jump, jump. Jump in the air to collect the single coin before the barrel you're supposed to hit because those are the most commonly missed coins in the whole course. After you reach the end, the mushroom guy will add up the amount of coins you got on the river and award you with Frog Coins depending on the number of Coins you have. If you can get 100 Coins in one try, you get a 5 Frog Coin Bonus along with your reward. Here's a small list that shows how much Frog Coins you get for what: Coins Acquired Frog Coin Price 100 Coins -- 50 Coins 90-99 Coins -- 60 Coins 80-89 Coins -- 70 Coins 70-79 Coins -- 75 Coins *** Goomba-Thumping Game *** In the Pipe Vault, you'll find a mole that'll let you stomp as many Goombas as you can for 10 Coins. Scoring is as follows: Goomba +1 point, Gold Goomba +3 points, Spikey -1 point. Get at least 20 points the first time you play and you'll get a Flower Tab. Break the Hi Score you set again and you'll get a Flower Jar as a prize. Break the Hi Score again and you'll get a Frog Coin. You'll win a Frog Coin each time you break the Hi Score after that. *** Mushroom Derby *** At Yo'ster Isle, you can race Boshi and the other Yoshis (only if you beat Boshi once before) using Yoshi. You can only participate if you have cookies to wager, so talk to the pink Yoshi by the north end of the island to get some if you're all out. The controls for racing are actually easy when you look at them, but they can get quite annoying when you don't go with the pattern. When the music starts, alternate pressing A and B with the rhythm to make Yoshi go. When you win, the cookies you receive depend upon how many cookies you wagered and what the odds were against you. *** Moleville Mountain *** After you rescue the kids in Moleville, go up to the top of the mountain and talk to the mole next to the big arrow pointing down the hole. You could pay 10 Coins just to ride the mine cart, or you can wager 30 Coins. If you break the record getting through the mines on the mine cart, you'll get 50 Coins back as a prize! In the first section of the race, it's in a Mode 7 perspective with the camera behind Mario at all times as you navigate through the mines. In the next part, you get a side-scrolling view. In the third part, it goes back to the Mode 7 perspective. Finally, in the final part, it goes to the side-scrolling view. Collect mushrooms during the course and use them on straight-aways to go faster by pressing X. Apply the brakes by pressing A when you're making tight turns so you don't fall off the track! *** Booster Hill *** This area is only of use AFTER you've beaten Yaridovich and went to Seaside Town to the Beetles Are Us shop and bought a Beetle Box. Then, go to the hill and run up it and catch those flying beetles. Like the race with Booster up the hill, jump on the barrels to move closer to the beetles, but if a barrel hits you, you fall back a bit. Here's a list of how many coins you get for catching a certain type of beetle: Male Beetle = 50 Coins Female Beetle = 1 Coin Golden Beetle = 1 Frog Coin *** Sky Bridge *** In Land's End, you'll be on a ledge connected to the other ledge by a series of platforms that fall if you stand on them for awhile called the Sky Bridge. Talk to the Shaman there and pay him 5 Coins to try your luck on the bridge to win Coins and/or Frog Coins. You can either pick the Normal Route, where if you reach the other side, you'll win back your 5 Coins, the Special Route where if you make it across you get 8 Coins, or the Expert Route, where if you make it, you win a Frog Coin. Each time you make it across, you'll be given the option to try again to get double the prize, and then you can try again to double that amount! *** Scale the Cliff *** At the cliff in Land's End where Sergeant Flutter and his Paratroops dispatched themselves to help you reach Bean Valley, you can play this mini-game anytime. All you have to do is jump from shell to shell to the top of the mountain and talk to Sergeant Flutter to get a prize. If you get to the top in less than 14 seconds, you'll have a 33.3% chance of getting a Frog Coin. If you can get up there under 12 seconds, you'll get the Troopa Pin. Get to the top within 11.49 seconds and you'll take a Frog Coin as a prize. Finally, if you can get up there under 11 seconds, which is difficult to do, you'll win 5 Frog Coins! *** The 3 Musty Fears *** In Monstro Town, go in the last door on the right and you'll see a lone bed and a mushroom in the corner. Go up to the mushroom and press A to turn off the lights in the room, then Mario will run to the bed and sprawl himself across the bed and go to sleep. During the night, the 3 Musty Fears: Big Boo, Dry Bones, and Greaper will appear and surround the bed. They'll tell you about their game "Find the Flag" and then disappear for a moment to hide their 3 flags. When they return, they'll give you hints about where each flag is hidden. Then, when they disappear, wake up and exit the room. Go down and right and exit Monstro Town. You first stop is Mario's Pad. When you get there, enter the Pipe House and walk up to the bed. Press A to find the Dry Bones Flag. Next, leave the pad and go to Rose Town. You'll see a wooden flower that says, "Welcome" on it; walk behind it, face it, and press A to get the Greaper Flag. Now, leave Rose Town and head down to Yo'ster Isle. When you get there, run up to the finish line for the race and you'll see the word GOAL on the ground. Stand between the letters O and A and press A to get the Big Boo Flag. Now, leave the isle and go back to Monstro Town and go into that room with the bed and shut out the light and go to sleep. The 3 Musty Fears will return and give you the Ghost Medal for playing their game. *** The Sealed Door *** I know that this isn't a real mini-game, In Monstro Town, you'll find that the 3rd door is sealed shut. In order to open it, you'll need the Shiny Stone. To get the stone, go to Moleville and into the house north of the Tool Shop and talk to the mole in the back. Buy Fireworks from him for 500 Coins, then leave the house and go right and talk to the little mole who's running the "Purtend Store" and give her the Fireworks to get the Shiny Stone. Now, go back to Monstro Town, go up to the sealed door and press A to unseal it. Then, go down and right and into the hole to save your game, then make sure that Mallow and the Princess are in your party and they're AT LEAST Level 25-27. Now, enter the unsealed door and you'll meet Culex. Accept his challenge to a fight, then you'll enter a fight against him and the 4 crystals. To find out how to win, read the Boss Strategies section of this guide. *** Grate Guy's Casino *** Grate Guy's Casino can only be accessed via a secret exit in Bean Valley. First, go to Booster Tower and get through it until you meet Knife Guy. Talk to him and play his guessing game and win 10 times to get a Bright Card, which allows you to enter the casino. Now, head through Bean Valley until you reach the room with the 5 pipes and the piranha plants. Go to the uppermost pipe and defeat the plant when the Shy Away waters it. Then, go down the pipe and get to the end of the room by the Chomp Chomps. Stand in the corner next to the Chomp Chomp and jump up 3 times to make a platform and another path appear. Jump on the platform and take the path out of Bean Valley and head to Grate Guy's Casino. Once inside, you can play a few different games. You can play Blackjack and try to win a Frog Coin. You could play the Slots in the corner by paying 10 Coins and try to get 3 matching pictures; if you win, you get a Frog Coin. That game is difficult to win, though. Last, you can talk to Grate Guy and play his "Look the Other Way" game to win not so great prizes. If you play and win, you can sometimes get better items instead of junky ones. *** The 6 Door Challenge *** In Bowser's Keep, there's a room where you come across 6 doors, each with its own 3-part course behind it. There are 2 Battle Courses, 2 Puzzle Courses, and 2 Action Courses. Here, I'll get into more detail about each of the courses. Battle Course 1 Fight 1: Gu Goomba (x5) Fight 2: Malakoopa (x2), Tub-O-Troopa (x1) Fight 3: Orbison (x2), Li'l Boo (x2) Fight 4: Sling Shy (x5) Fight 5: Chewy (x2), Shy Away (x2) Fight 6: Mr. Kipper (x1), Leuko (x2) Fight 7: Orbison (x1), Amanita (x2) Fight 8: Greaper (x2), Glum Reaper (x1) Fight 9: Pyrosphere (x3) Fight 10: Lakitu (x3) Fight 11: Shaman (x2), Zeostar (x2) Fight 12: Shaman (x5) At the end of this course, hit the chest to get the Star Gun, which you should equip on Geno right away! Battle Course 2 Fight 1: Terra Cotta (x4) Fight 2: Oerlikon (x2), Star Cruster (x1) Fight 3: Sackit (x1), Big Bertha (x2) Fight 4: Chow (x2), Forkies (x1) Fight 5: Armored Ant (x2), Alley Rat (x1) Fight 6: Star Cruster (x1), Bloober (x2) Fight 7: Stinger (x4) Fight 8: Geckit (x2), Chained Kong (x1) Fight 9: Rob-omb (x1), Big Bertha (x2) Fight 10: Vomer (x4) Fight 11: Magmus (x2), Pulsar (x2) Fight 12: Chester (x1), Bahamutt (x1) When you get to the end of this course, hit the chest to get the Drill Claw for Bowser. Puzzle Course 1 In this 1st room of this course, you'll meet Dr. Topper again and you'll see a chest in the air. The chest only has 21 Coins inside, and the object of this game is to make sure that you don't get the 21st Coin. Dr. Topper and Mario take turns taking 1 to 4 Coins from the chest until it becomes empty. There isn't any real info I can give you except this: count the number of coins taken from the chest and NEVER let your turn end on the 16th or 17th Coins because Dr. Topper can easily take 3 or 4 Coins, leaving you with the 21st. After you beat Topper in this game, you'll be brought to the next room. In the 2nd room, you'll see a bunch of switches on the floor. The object of this game is to make it so that all the switches are depressed. Each switch you jump on triggers the switches on all sides of it and make them go down. Here, I'll show you how to win it easily: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Step on switches 2, 8, 15, and 9 to win this game and go on to the next room. In this final room of the challenge, there are a bunch of cannonballs in a pattern like the switches in the other room were. Dr. Topper will tell you that you have to kick the cannonballs over each other until there's only 1 left. Each time you kick one over another one, the one you kicked it over disappears. Dr. Topper will remove cannonball #3 for you in the beginning. Here, I'll show you how to finish this game: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 First, kick ball #1 right to space #3. Then, kick ball #4 left to space #2. Then, kick ball #11 up to space #3. Next, kick ball #5 right to space #7, then kick ball #8 left to space #6. Next, kick ball #9 right to space #11. Then, kick ball #15 up to space #7. Then, kick ball #3 down to space #11. Next, kick ball #2 down to space #10. Then, kick ball #16 up to space #8. Next, kick ball #10 right to space #12. Next, kick ball #8 down to space #16, then kick ball #13 right to space #15. Finally, kick ball #16 left to space #14 to leave only one ball remaining and win the game! At the end of this puzzle course, hit the chest to get Rock Candy. Puzzle Course 2 In this room, you'll meet Dr. Topper and he'll ask you a bunch of trivia questions while you stand on a platform. The platform will move up one space each time you get a right answer, but it'll drop 2 spaces when you get one wrong. Here, I'll list the different question he asks, along with their answers below: 1. The boy getting his picture taken at Marrymore can't wait 'til which season? Answer: Skiing 2. What do Culex, Goomba, and Jinx all have in common? Answer: They live in Monstro Town In the 2nd room of Puzzle Course 1, Dr. Topper brings you into a room with numerous barrels. He'll then shut off the lights, then turn them on again, adding more barrels to the pile. Then, he'll give you 10 seconds to count how many barrels there are total in that pile. When you get it right, he'll shut off the lights and turn then on again, adding LOTS of barrels to the pile, then he'll give you 20 seconds to count them all and say the answer. When you get that right, you go on to the last part of the course! In the final room of Puzzle Course 1, you'll see 4 creatures standing alongside a wall. Dr. Topper will tell you that they competed in a triathlon; now he'll ask you to go talk to each of them to hear their stories. Remember their stories, then go see Dr. Topper again; he'll have you talk to each of them in the order they won. Here, I'll tell you what each one said and who's in what place: 1st Place: I outrode [name] on my bike, and [name] was never able to pass me. 2nd Place: I fell into 4th place during the bike race, but finally ended up in the same place as I did in the swimming event. 3rd Place: I placed the same in the swimming and cycling events, but 2 others beat me in the marathon. 4th Place: I came in 3rd for swimming. At the very end of this course, hit the chest to get another Rock Candy! Action Course 1 In the 1st room of this course, you'll notice that there seems to be no way to get across the lava. There are hidden paths which only appear when you jump on them, so walk straight ahead onto a hidden path and jump to see where there is ground for a quick second. Keep jumping around to get through this room to the door at the end. Hit the chests in the room to get a Royal Syrup, Fright Bomb, Ice Bomb, and a Rock Candy! Now, go through the door at the end to the next room. In the 2nd part of this course, there are a bunch of square platforms that move back and forth above the lava. You have to jump onto one, then onto the next one when you get close enough to it. Try and hit all the chests in this room to get a Fire Bomb, a Max Mushroom, a Flower, and a really useful item: the Red Essence! Now, get through this room to the door and go through it to the final room of this course. In this final part of the course, you have to simply get to the top while avoiding the barrels that come down along the way. Just make your way to the top without getting hit and go through the door next to the Chained Kong to finish the course. At the end of this course, you get the Super Slap weapon for the Princess. DON'T equip it on her if you have already bought the Frying Pan for her in Moleville! Action Course 2 In the first room of this course, you'll see a series of platforms moving up and down above the lava. You have to simply jump across them to the other side, so get on the first one to get down by the lava, then go from there. When the last platform is low enough, jump onto it to ride up to a high ledge, then go down and left to the chest. Hit the chest to get a Kerokero Cola, then go back and wait for the platform to come back up by you, then ride it back down to the lower part. Now, jump onto the ledge and go through the door to the next room. In the 2nd part of this course, there's a cannonball on the ground, as well as a couple of Bob-ombs walking around. You have to jump on the cannonball and walk on it so you can reach the chests on the high ledges and the door at the end. First, walk ahead and get the Bob-ombs to follow you, then lure them to the beginning of the room. Then, jump on the cannonball and get across the room while hitting the chests along the way to get 2 Flowers, a Max Mushroom, a Pick Me Up, and a Rock Candy. At the end, jump into the door to the final room. In the last part of this course, there are 2 platforms; when you stand on the first platform, the other one rotates around it. Get across the room by making the platform rotate, then jump onto it to make the other one circle you until you reach the end. Try and hit the numerous chests in the air to get various goodies, including a Fire Bomb, 2 Flowers, Royal Syrup, and a Pick Me Up. Then continue to the end and through the door. At the end of this course, hit the chest to get the Sonic Cymbals for Mallow. ********************************************************************* 12.
