The Smashing Pumpkins
Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

The descent (or ascent, depending on how you feel about later SP) into Billy Corgan's full-blown ego trip. If the double-disc length didn't tip you off that this was meant to be a Serious Album, the track names (let alone the title) might have: "Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans," "Here Is No Why," "In The Arms of Sleep," etc. Once again, the best stuff is the singles ("Tonight, Tonight," "1979") although one or two of the regular album tracks are pretty good too, such as "Thru The Eyes Of Ruby." However, one or two tracks of this sort do not really cut it on an album featuring 28 songs.
