Moby's gotten most of his acclaim from the more recent Play, but he's been making good music at least since 1995's Everything Is Wrong. (Although, it must be said, he's been making mediocre music as well.) This album is a good way to sample his pre-Play style, which featured lots of piano loops and synth stuff, as opposed to the folk samples that predominated on Play. The result is a lot more peppier than most people are probably familiar with his work sounding like, especially tracks like "Feeling So Real," "Everytime You Touch Me," "and "Bring Back My Happiness." On the other hand, you can hear a hint of the Play material in the more brooding songs like "Hymn," "God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters," and "When It's Cold I'd Like To Die." All in all, good album--if only "What Love" wasn't there, it could be a classic.
