Metal Gear Solid
Original Soundtrack

The main problem with this soundtrack is a relative lack of variety: only the most die-hard, obsessed fans of the game (which I fortunately happen to be) could tell the difference between the three "Intruder" themes at a listen. Then there's the fact that some variation or hint of the "Main Theme" appears in half the tracks, and you could be forgiven for thinking the composer should have branched out a bit. However, then you'd be ignoring the slow, graceful build of "Introduction," the mournful strains of "Enclosure," and that extreme rarity in a Mitsuda-driven soundtrack industry: a vocal Celtic theme that actually works. Furthermore, the main theme is in fact so good that it's almost a pleasure to listen to it over and over, and Quadra's remix at the end proves the theme's near-limitless flexibility by providing yet another version that stands out as much as all the others. It's not always the best music out of the context of the game, but it's still an amazing soundtrack. Mind you, I expect Metal Gear Solid 2's to eclipse it tenfold.
