Gorillaz
Gorillaz

The phrase "mixed bag" was coined just to describe things like Gorillaz, the "supergroup" collaboration between Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Eric "Kid Koala" San, and Damon "Blur" Albarn. Bouncing from astonishingly catchy tunes to pointless, indulgent, musical rambles with no middle ground, it seems like it would have made a very good EP. On the other hand, because it's so eclectic, there's something for just about any music fan here. From straight-out rock songs like "M1A1" to chirpy pop in 19-2000 (featuring what may be one of the dumbest choruses ever written) to masterful hip-hop in Clint Eastwood (guest starring Del the Funky Homosapien, just to round out the quartet who previously worked together on Deltron 3030) to electronic weirdness in Left Hand Suzuki Method, it's tempting to say that the wide variety of musical styles will never leave you bored. However, since about half of them aren't very well-executed, that's not quite true. Still, it's a fun album to skip tracks on, and that counts for something.
