Sometimes I'll complain about a bit of music being "overproduced," and usually it is a bad thing, but not where Garbage is concerned. It's about the slickest, most plastic-sounding music out there, and it suits them well. Indeed, it's almost the entire point. This is probably to be expected when one of the band members, Butch Vig, is best known for his producing work. But there's another standout member here: vocalist Shirley Manson's sneer manages to deflate all the glossy studio work on the album. I'm not much in the mood for this anymore, but it's still pretty good now and then.
