Tori Amos
Little Earthquakes

There's a fairly obvious difference between being a fan of Tori Amos and being a Tori Fan; clearly, I fall into the former category since I only own one album and have never been to a concert. I really like her music, though, especially this album and From the Choirgirl Hotel; songs like Winter and China are just too good to ignore. Still, I suspect I'll never figure out what separates Tori from other pretentious chanteuses. There are certainly no surface differences between her and, say, Paula Cole--so why do I find one fascinating and one repulsive? One of the not-so-great mysteries of life.
