This isn't just a waste of time or an attempt to make myself look important. I actually
am interested in the answers here, so...knock yourselves out.
Oh, I also didn't post this just to raise my stats. I have #1 in most categories
here simply because I get that bored. :B
So, the poll: What languages do you speak, and to what degree?
Here's my answers (this is the degree of detail I'm looking for, but of course you're
free to answer in whatever way you want, including with fish):
English: fluent
Spanish: I've taken through Spanish IV, and I have a pretty good grasp on the language,
but I lack a whole lot. Especially in the vocabulary department. And I think I'm
starting to forget stuff. :B
Esperanto: I really need to keep working on it. I'm still fairly early in my studies
of it, but I can pick up a lot, 'cause it takes so much from stuff like English and
Spanish.
German: Very little. Just what I've picked up from some friends who took German I.
I can put together simple stuff like "wo bist du," but that's about it. I can understand
a bit more, especially when cognates are involved. :B
Japanese: Only what I've picked up from anime and you guys. A few words, very little
grammar. And I can read one hiragana and one kanji character.
Other Romance Languages (Portuguese, Italian, French, etc.): What I can pick up from
my knowledge of Spanish (and to a lesser degree, English and Esperanto). Can be a
surprising amount sometimes.
Other Germanic Languages (Dutch, etc.): What I can pick up from my knowledge of English,
and to a lesser degree, Esperanto (and German, I guess).
The Rest: Very little to none.

Let's see... here are the languages I know in the order that they were learned:
Chinese (Mandarin): My parents speak this to me 95% of the time. I speak it
fluently to my relatives, parents, and little siblings. I've taken about 3
years of Chinese classes on Saturdays to learn the written aspect, but it never really
helped. I used to know a few hundred Chinese characters at that time, but now
I've forgotten most of them.
Taiwanese: Another language that my parents/relatives speak. I don't really
know Taiwanese very fluently. I've picked it up mostly from hearing my parents
talk to each other with this language. I can understand a majority if it's
spoken to me, but I can't speak it myself since I've never practiced.
English: Of course, I had to learn this language in order to function in America.
I learned English fairly young, probably during my preschool years. I'm the
most fluent with English, but that doesn't matter since I don't talk anyway.
Spanish: Living in Texas, I've had Spanish influence all throughout my life.
I've had classes in elementary school before, but the ones that really counted were
the 3 years I took in middle school (Spanish IA, IB, IC), and the 1 year I took in
high school (Spanish II PreAP). I quit taking this language and I've already
forgotten almost everything over the summer.
Japanese: Only within the last year or two did I start picking up this language.
I've mostly soaked some up from Japanese turtorial sites, the subbed anime I watch,
Japanese MP3s with lyrics, and around friends. I know kana pretty well, and
a few kanji. Currently, I can understand about 5-10% of the Japanese in anime
just by listening. I'm learning very, VERY slowly...
Latin: I started taking Latin this year, just to get away from Spanish, so I don't
know too much at this point. Whee.
Other Languages: Just little bits and words here and there.

Lessee...
English: not as fluent as I'd like to be, but...eh. It's not my first language.
Romanian: I've been forgetting words and phrases and whatnot since I moved to the
States....bleh.
Spanish: Since Japanese isn't taught at my high school, I'm forced to take this.
I'm in Spanish III right now. Caramba.
Japanese: I know a little grammar, about a hundred words, all the hiragana and katakana,
and a few Kanji. Baka!
French: Ech...I shouldn't even put this down. It doesn't count at all.
