Cecil's Story
In the words of FuSoYa, "Millenia ago, the planet between Mars and Jupiter was about to be shattered. The people who survived this calamity escaped by ships and headed to the Blue Planet." "However, the people of the earth were still in the process of evolution. Thus they created another Moon and kept sleeping." These people FuSoYa speaks of are the Lunarians, from which Cecil is descended. They remained in a state of slumber for thousands of years, except for a few who keep watch, awaiting the day that the humans on the earth below will understand them. One of those who kept watch was named KluYa, the brother of FuSoYa. He built a ship, the Big Whale, to go to the earth several years before the beginning of the game, and taught the people bits of the Lunarians' higher technology, including the Serpent Road and the airships. While he was there, he fell in love with a human woman, and they had two children: Cecil and Golbez. It is never explained exactly what happened to the family to separate them. Golbez eventually became brainwashed by Zemus, another Lunarian, who wanted to destroy the earth. KluYa eventually became nothing more than a "holy light" on top of Mt. Ordeals, who waited and watched for his son to return. Cecil's mother is never mentioned; she is commonly assumed to be dead. (Perhaps whatever fate befell KluYa befell her as well...?) Cecil apparently grew up in Baron, knowing nothing of his otherworldy heritage, and became a Dark Knight, as well as Captain of the Red Wings, Baron's air force. When the king began to order him to steal things and murder the innocent, Cecil defected with his friend Kain, hoping to find out what was behind the king's strange behavior, and his girlfriend Rosa followed after. When Cecil and his allies reached Mt. Ordeals, KluYa tested his son to make certain that his heart hadn't been stained with evil as Golbez's had, and then infused him with his power, changing Cecil from the Dark Knight into the legendary Paladin. With that title came a powerful sword with a legend engraved on the side, implying that Cecil would save the earth from a threat on the moon. That threat was Zemus. After Cecil and his allies have finished their journey, defeating Zemus, Cecil returns to find that since Golbez (or his minions) had killed the king of Baron, there is no one to reign over the land. He ascends the throne in the game's ending, with Rosa at his side as Queen.
